Five Things Friday, December Joys

Hello Friday!

The countdown to Christmas is 3 days friends, 3 days! I can’t even believe it, or maybe I just don’t want to. For me the best parts of Christmas come with the Christmas season and not so much the actual day itself. Honestly, I typically find Christmas Day to be a little bit depressing. That may ring especially true this year since I will be anticipating a move days later.

But enough about that, there is still more celebrating ahead! Festivus (A made up holiday.) (Any Seinfeld fans out there?) and Christmas Eve. Christmas Eve is without a doubt, my favorite day of the year.

Since today is Five Things Friday, and I am supposed to be sharing all about the things in my life that are bringing me joy, I wanted to share 5 of my favorite parts about Christmas. These are the things that will be making me smile over these next few days.

My 5 Christmas Joys

The only thing I love more than eating cookies is baking and sharing them with friends and family. On a Typical year we bake 5-6 types of cookies and then we dip 2-3 different things. This year I opted to scale things back a bit. However, we are still making double batches of our 3 favorite kinds of cookies. Peanut Butter Blossoms, Sugar Cookies and Chocolate Chip.

Christmas Eve Service

My favorite church service of the year is Christmas Eve. Reflecting on how long His arrival was anticipated and the celebration of the Saviors birth stirs my heart. I’m reminded that just like they were waiting, we are too. One day, He will come again.

Family Time

What would Christmas be without plenty of family time? Russ started his Christmas vacation today and he’ll be off for the rest of the year. We are so excited, even though we know we’ll be busy. We also have celebrations planned with extended family over the next few days too.

The “Magic”

Nothing beats Christmas Eve magic. It is something I have been able to tangibly feel since I was a little girl and it has only been sweeter since becoming a mama.

From cookies for Santa, cinnamon rolls, watching Nation Lampoons Christmas Vacation EVERY Christmas Eve with Russ, Holiday pj’s and more. There are so many sweet traditions that the next few days bring.

So, what brings you joy?
What are you looking forward to the most over the next few days?

Since Monday is Christmas, and I don’t have anything planned for a little bit, I wanted to wish you and yours a VERY Merry Christmas! I hope your holiday celebrations are full of love, peace and joy!

I totally agree, just thinking about Christmas Day makes me a little sad right now! but Christmas Eve? That has me all giddy and excited because that night is magical. I hope you all have a very Merry Christmas!!!

  • Meryyyy Christmas! Family time is where it is at for us these days ๐Ÿ™‚

  • I love your list, and it quite closely resembles my own. This year so much is bringing me joy. Even the little things. I have not had to look very far to find the happy, what a blessing that has been. Merry Christmas my sweet friend.

Merry Christmas, sweet friend!!! I’m with ya, Christmas Eve service is the best! I love the Christmas season as a whole too! I ward off feeling sad about it ending on Christmas Day by keeping it going! LOL. We always plan a little Christmasy day trip the week after Christmas, and I keep my decor, Christmas lights, and Christmas movie watching alive and well until New Years Day. (Something my parents have always done and I couldn’t love more, because Christmas ending is sad! lol) I have not seen Christmas Vacation in years! The girls are attending a Christmas party today and Jason and I are planning on getting takeout from our favorite BBQ place and watching it then! ๐Ÿ™‚ Wishing you all the best with the upcoming move! I’ll be praying for you, friend!! Meanwhile, enjoy every beautiful bit of the Christmas season! xoxo! Brenda //

  • Yes for Festivus! LOL!

  • I am loving the fun you all are having this Christmas. I know it’s the last one in your home before you start your adventure in the shouse but you are making such precious memories.

  • Living on Cloud Nine

Of course I’m all weepy and sentimental these days! But the joys are so abundant and the magic is breathtaking. The move will be heavy but next year at this time the magic and light will shine bright in your new home! Merry Christmas to you and yours beautiful angel!

  • I will miss the โ€œmagicโ€ when it ends. But that means we will create a new form of magic!

  • Christmas Eve is my favorite service as well! We go to the children’s mass and it is just magical. All of those sweet little voices singing in the children’s choir make me so, so happy. Merry merry Christmas to you and your sweet family, Beth!

Your cookie menu sounds delicious! I bet your friends and family look forward to them every year. Your girls looked like such good helpers in the kitchen. Merry Christmas, friend!!

  • I usually find Christmas day pretty depressing too. I can only focus on the fact that within hours itโ€™s all going to be over. Womp. Womp. But, this year I tried so hard to not let that be. I kept thinking about Bethlehem (and everywhere else) on that 2nd day after finding out a savior had been born! I can just imagine the genuine joy spreading through there. Anyhow, that helped give me some happier perspective. I too, love all of these things about Christmas time. I hope you guys had the merriest time!
