Book Love, August 2017

What began as a goal to read one book became me rediscovering my love for reading. When I think of the summer of 2017, I will remember it as the one that I had my nose stuck in a book. It has been amazing.

I’m at such a sweet age with my girls to read books, while they read books. But with home school now in session I will have a lot less time to do recreational reading. I’m hoping that I don’t completely give it up again, until next summer that is. Even if I just read one or two books a month, my goal is to keep reading.

Over the month of July I read 4 books. I was a little disappointed that I didn’t read more, but one of them was very long and another seemed hopelessly slow at first. Here’s a look at what I read.

I feel like I might be the last person on earth to read this book, but I had to read it. It was a huge book, literally huge, and I thought it might take me forever to read, but it didn’t. I loved it. Her story made me so sad. I kept thinking of how much she needed Jesus to fill that empty hole in her life. However, her story didn’t depress me either. If you live under a rock, like me, and haven’t read this book it’s a really great read. Oprah obviously recommended it for some reason, right?!

November 9

Colleen Hoover was an author that Stephanie told me I needed to check out, specifically this book. Wow, just wow! It was a major thriller for sure with a serious plot twist. I couldn’t put it down and read it in about 36 hours. It definitely left me wondering if Colleen Hoover’s writing style is this interesting… or if it is just this book. I think I’ll have to read another.

Slightly South of Simple

When I saw 3 different people post about this book, on blogs or Instagram, I had to check it out. It didn’t take me long to figure out what all the fuss was about. I quickly fell in love with the characters of this book and their stories. But when the book didn’t end in a way I wanted it too, it left me wanting more. A quick look through the back of the book confirmed that there would be more since another book will be coming out. Oh thank goodness!

Garden of New Beginnings

I grabbed this book off the new arrival shelf at the library by chance . A quick look on Amazon confirmed that it didn’t stink, so I took it home with me. By the end I can say that I like the book, but it just was a very slow read and never got really interesting. If I didn’t have an interest in gardening I probably would’ve hated it. I just felt like I needed to throw that last bit out there.

What have you been reading lately?
Any recommendations?

I’m currently reading November 9…Oh my goodness!

  • Jessica

I’m going to have to check out Simply South of Simple. I’m always looking for new book recommendations. Thanks girl!

    • It is a really good one Jess. Make sure you check it out and let me know what you think!

  • I need to get Nov 9. I have heard a lot of good stuff about that one.

    • YES!!! Get it for sure and let me know what you think.

A couple of these seem right up my alley!! And you’re not alone, I haven’t read Wild yet, but I saw the movie, does that count? LOL

    • So if I had watched the movie first, I never would have read it. I HATED the movie. I think it is because it is so, so, SO different from the book and it just kept making me angry, lol. Like a stepfather they left out and the fact that she was 1 of 3 kids to name a few.

  • It Ends with Us should be your next Hoover read…I loved it. November 9 has definitely been one of my summer favorites. July was a super slow reading month for me and I only finished one book but I am blaming it on the discovery of podcasts.

    • Is it funny how that happens. I have been reading a bit less and I am choosing to blame Candy Crush, lololol!

  • Ooh, I love these! Do more posts like this, so you can keep my reading pile stocked ๐Ÿ™‚

  • Loved November 9. And I’ll agree with Shelly – I loved It Ends With Us too.

    • I am going to see if my library has that right now!

  • I have Wild on my wish list, too! So don’t worry, you’re not alone… I haven’t gotten around to reading it yet. I just don’t have much time to read anymore!

    • Have you saw the movie? I think if I had watched the movie I would have never read it. The book is SO much better.

  • I can not wait to get my hands on Slightly South of Simple.

  • I haven’t read Wild yet… Maybe after I finish my current book I’ll check it out.

    • Did you watch the movie? If you did, don’t worry. The book is SO much better.

      • Nope didn’t watch the movie. I always try to read before I watch. ๐Ÿ˜‰

        • Me too! I was so disappointed with the movie. I probably never would’ve read the book :P.

I have had wild on my summer reading list since last summer and have yet to read it. I think it might be the size holding me back!! But I think I need to read it sooner rather than later!!

    • Oh my goodness, YES! That was my exact problem with the book too. It is so stinking big… but it is a really good read.

  • I love that you have found your love for reading again because I have too! Iโ€™ve been curious about Wild. And nope. Youโ€™re not the last to read it. And now I am so intrigued by November 9th. Adding it to my list.

    • It is INTENSE and has a lot of curse words in it but man it is a story that grabs you and you just can’t stop reading. I hated the movie Wild, but loved the book. I don’t know if that will help you or not.

  • Keep it up, lady!!! Reading is one of those things that seems to snowball the more you do it.

    • Now if only I had more time to read. I have already read 2 books this month though and I picked up a 3rd today!

      • I still get to employ nap time as my designated reading time (lucky, I know lol)

        • Haha! Well I try to read when they read now… but that doesn’t always play out.

  • I just finished In a Dark, Dark Wood and loved it! I also really want to read Colleen Hoover! I’ve heard so many great things about her books!

    • Yes! I have read two more since I wrote this post and loved both of them! Check her out for sure. Thanks for the rec too!

Fun Summer reads! I just finished Of Mess and Moxie. It was pretty good, but I was hoping it would be amazing. I am guilty of picking books based on their covers. I also rarely check out books for myself at the library. That should change this Fall ๐Ÿ™‚
