Ten Things I’ve Always Wanted To Do

A few weeks ago several of my blogging besties did this post and it left me wondering one thing (or maybe 10.) What would be on my list?!?! If you know me well you know two things. #1 I love to make list. I am one of those girls who writes down something she already did on a to do list, just so she can cross it off. #2 I love making and setting goals.

Honestly I think that is what scared me off a bit from this post. I don’t like to let myself think to hard about this kind of stuff. I am afraid of growing attached to the idea and then finding myself invested, committed, and feeling like a failure when I read this in 10 years. Hello future Beth. You are stinking awesome even if you can’t cross a single one of these things off, capeesh?

So with no further delays… ( Did you notice it feels like I am stalling as I write this? That’s because I am.) here is my list.

#1 Run a marathon.

Is it insane to think that this may be the most realistic thing on my entire list. Since when did running 26.2 miles become a realistic possibility?

#2 Drive Route 66.

I would love to drive the entire thing, end to end, but unless we wait til retirement, the odds of doing that seem unlikely. Even if we could drive it from Chicago back to Missouri I would be completely thrilled. Russ and I can both be complete vintage history nerds so this would be so much fun for us to do together.

#3 Take a class or course.

On what, I don’t know! Baking or Photography maybe? I never went to college and my high school was rather… nontraditional. So taking a class as a grown up when I can really appreciate the experience would be so much fun. Yes, I am apparently a nerd.

#4 Go on a trip with my girls.

I see so many girls taking trips with their mama’s and it seems like such a fun thing to do. I would love to grab my girls and go somewhere for the weekend just for fun. This would be such a neat tradition to start-up in a couple more years and keep it going as long as we can.

#5 Rock dread locks.

Did I for real just type that? Yes? Oh my word… well… it’s out there now. I know, I know they can’t be so, homely? (And that’s putting it nicely.) But man they can be pretty cool too. Could I just have them for like a day, maybe two or three tops. Please tell me I am not the only one. I blame Angelina Jolie’s roll in Gone In 60 Seconds. Yes, I love that movie. #dontjudge

#6 Meet up with a blogging friend.

Over the past several years I have made some pretty amazing friends via the blog. The idea of never meeting any of them just makes me so stinking sad. So I am not so patiently waiting for the opportunity to meet someone(s). It will happen eventually, I just know it.

#7 Be debt free.

Any Dave Ramsey fans out there? Russ and I read his book forever ago and we have really taken a lot of what he has to say into consideration. The one thing we have yet to tackle is the house. Well, we kind of are debt free right now, but we’re “homeless” too  ๐Ÿ˜† . Being able to own our home and not have a mortgage is something we have been talking about for YEARS now. It is definitely something we are working towards.

#8 Learn to autocross race.

Two months ago this wouldn’t have made the list but y’all I am obsessed! I want to … need to learn how to drive a car like that.

#9 See a Giant Panda in person.

This one may sound silly to most but I lived a good chunk of my younger years completely obsessed with panda bears. However, I have yet to see a Giant Panda in real life. This one really needs fixed. I am pretty certain when I do get to see one I’d gladly stand and watch it for hours.

#10 Lear to play the piano.

I know just enough about music to get me in trouble, nothing more. I have always wanted to play the piano but never had the discipline to really learn.

Tell me one thing you have always wanted to do?

I also wanted to mention that in honor of the 4th of July, we WILL NOT be having Tuesday Talk next week. Enjoy your families and join us again on the 11th!

I love all of these. Such great goals to have for the future. I definitely think you can accomplish more one of them. It’s always nice to dream, but most of yours aren’t super lofty ones so I see you marking at least half off. ๐Ÿ™‚

    • If I could mark off half of these I would be completely thrilled. Thanks for the vote of confidence!

  • This is such a great list! And didn’t it feel pretty great once you wrote it down? I have to say…I have met a few blogging friends in real life and it is quite amazing and ever so energizing! So I really hope you get that opportunity! Thank you for sharing your list!

    • I bet it is just the best. And yes, I am so glad I took the time to make my list. It felt great.

  • Lizzie Simantz

What an awesome list and I’m sure at least some of these will be checked off for sure!! Being debt free is on our list as well!!

    • I sure hope some of these will be marked off. Sooner than later too.

  • I really do need to write a real list of things I’ve always wanted to do…one of mine is definitely skydive! I’m ridiculous and waste time wanting some kind of guarantee I won’t die. ๐Ÿ™‚ YES to the giant panda!!!! And to a blog meetup! I’m still hopeful baseball will bring me back your way again in a few years. Great list friend…oh….and I add completed things just to cross them off too. ๐Ÿ™‚

    • Lol! I had a friend that went a few years ago, you should totally make it happen. It would be oh so fun if it did, time will tell.

  • Dudette, you should take these one one by one. I’m really not sure why you feel any anxiety because these are fun and exciting and will show those two girls – mama does what mama wants to do (in a positive way!) I’m challenging you right now to take a continuing ed class/course. Find one at a community college or a church or something and do it!!! Around here we have a floral school, an artisan school, and a culinary school you can take little classes at! I’m sure Joplin has to have something up your alley! This is a challenge – do it! Love to you! xo

    • I’m just such a task oriented person the thought of not completing a list seems terrible to me. I know, its a bit crazy. Once we get through all of this house stuff, I’ll have to take a look!

  • I was just thinking about Dave Ramsey last night – ha ha! Total fan here, but we definitely stray a bit from his philosophy at times. Not having a mortgage would be HUGE!

    • Oh we do too. No mortgage would be amazing, right. Huge weight lifted and more freedom to spend a little more and save more too.

  • You could totally meet me so easily! ๐Ÿ™‚ Zachary is interested in Route 66 right now, so he’d love to come along for your drive! lol.

    • Girl I will likely be making my fair share of trips to IKEA when house stuff starts up. We’ll have to meet up there on one of my trips!

  • I think that’s a fantastic list, especially the dreads. Nope, also the meeting a blogger.

    • Somday, someday. The blogger…. probably not the dreads :P.

  • I have such a love/hate relationship with Dave Ramsey. I LOVE him, but sometimes I just want to buy shoes or something not needed and Brandon will pull the Dave card. I lovingly refer to Brandon as Bramsey. I love your list! I can see you rocking dreads and having it look SO good. Also, look into a class at a local college. Ours offers so many fun ones that I have thought about taking. I think one of the most empowering things I ever did was graduate Grad school last year. My kids watched the whole thing, and watched me work hard at it. Education is the one thing no one can take away from you. Route 66 would be SO much fun! I loved your list!

    • Bramsey, lol. That is so funny. I think everyone has that relationship with him. I like the idea, but man it’s just no fun.

I can’t even imagine how good that must have felt. Your kids will remember that for sure and it may push them to do something similar some day!

  • That is a pretty awesome list – especially rockin’ the dread locks! A couple things I have in the back of my mind are: learn the recorder, and travel to Greece!

    • Oooohhhh! I bet Greece would be amazing and learning the recorder, love it. Bet there is a YouTube video to tackle that!

  • haha I love your list! So random and perfect! I’ll join you in piano lessons =) Then you can mark off two items, bam.

  • What a great list. I think you would rock dreads! And I would love to have a blogger meet up!

    • You really aren’t that far away, I just never get up that way. I have a friend going to Iowa this weekend for a car event and I was shocked to hear how close it actually was. I never put that together. Brenday from Chattting Over Chocolate is just down the road from you too!

      • Oh cool. I didn’t realize she lived close by! I think we need to make it happen sometime!

        • Girl she is pretty darn close, I am guessing. Council Bluffs if i remember right.

  • That’s such a fun list! I’ve always wanted to learn to play the piano, too!

  • I will meet you!!!! That’s on my list of things to do as well… I would love to meet up with all of you blogger friends! And see a giant panda in real life. Lol. We have them at the ATL Zoo so I’ve seen them a bunch of times. We took the kids last year and they loved it!

    • Oh man there have been SO many discussion of making a meetup happen but choosing a location that works for people just never really seems to work out. It needs to be central and big.

I can’t imagine seeing them a bunch of times, SO much fun.

  • how about you take a girls on a trip to the San Diego Zoo, see the huge panda exibit and then you can meet me, three things off the list in one trip. Win ๐Ÿ™‚

    • That sounds absolutely fantastic. We could even take route 66 to come see you!

  • I love this post so much!! I feel like I learned new things about you that I did not know!! You should totally take a class!! And heck to the yes for a blogger meet up… it will have to happen (it would make my heart so happy to actually meet you all)! And now I am inspired to do a similar list! This was lots of fun ๐Ÿ™‚

    • Wasn’t it a fun post. Someday we’ll take that trip I have talked about friend, and you will be sure to know when we do. Can’t wait to see your list.

  • I am the same exact way about lists! I even did that with my summer bucket list. I included things we already did 1.) because I want them documented on my blog and 2.) so I could cross them off my list! This is such an awesome list and I have no doubts in my mind that you will cross these all off some time. #6 โ€“ yes! Joplin is only 6 hours from me. My brother and his girlfriend make that drive all the timeโ€ฆso thereโ€™s no reason why I couldnโ€™t!

    • I wondered if he still makes that trip. If only I had a house with a guest room, y’all would have to make the trip with him sometime friend. Now I barely have a house, lolol. We have also talked about visiting Texas. Would you believe that i have never been past the pan handle? We really need to fix that.

  • It’s sad that the first thing I thought about having dreads was ooohh… I don’t have to wash/do my hair all the time! Is that even accurate. I am clearly lacking on #dreadcare

    • Baha ha! I think it is genius! More reason to make it happen :P. I think you have to rinse them, but not wash them with shampoo.

  • I am definitely a list maker and if it applies, I add it and mark it off even if it’s already been done! I would love to run a 5k. And we are are Dave Ramsey fans. Live like no one else today so you can live like no one else tomorrow! And I would love to be able to really play the piano. I can read very basic music because I took a couple of classes in college but I never continued. So, there’s a piano sitting in my home that goes unplayed.

    • You should totally run a 5k! If you aren’t currently running grab a couch to 5k app and you’ll be ready to do one by the fall! You sound just like me music wise I can read most music but I lack all the skills.

  • Im shocked about the dreads but everything else seems very Beth ๐Ÿ™‚ Taking a class is so much better as an adult who can appreciate it! And Im pretty sure we’ll have to meet IRL one of these days!!!

    • I guess that just goes to show that I can surprise you :P. It would be SO much fun friend, the meeting and the class…. but mostly the meeting.

  • You can totally rock your list, even the dreadlocks lol. Thanks for hosting and happy 4th!

    • Baha ha! Thanks for the vote of confidence.

  • #6 … I will help you make this happen. Mostly for purely selfish reasons.

  • Hey, come to DC and we can meet AND I can take you to the pandas!

    • I would love, love, love, love, love to go to DC for so many reasons. It is totally on my radar but I want the girls to be a bit older.

  • Drive Route 66 would be so fun!! Mason would die, he would be so excited to be driving like in the Cars movies!

    • Oh man there are so many perks to living in a Route 66 town. We are really close to rainbow bridge which was actually in the movie and there is a town about 15 minutes away that has a tow-mater truck at an old gas station. He would LOVE it.

  • Whitney Jordan

What an awesome list!! I love your ambition and the diversity of things on your list. I got to see Pandas in person in Memphis. They were fascinating. I loved watching them eat bamboo and thought it was so cool that their caretakers wore panda masks when they went into their cage. You’ve got to plan a zoo trip to see some yourself. I bet your girls would love it, too. You could totally do a marathon and I love your car/travel goals. You can do it!!

    • Oh I bet that was just so much fun. Thanks for the encouragement Whitney!

  • I drove a little of route 66 this last weekend. Do you know how many parks it originally went through? A lot. That has changed now, but sooo cool!

Wouldn’t it be fun to meet some of our blogging friends for real?!

    • It would be the best! Yes! It is just the coolest. We are lucky to live in an area that really embraces its Route 66 roots.

  • Felicia Parker

Great list!! By the way, dreads are twisted hair. They have to be shampooed just like anyone who has hair. Just wanted to share that. The curlier the hair, the easier it is to twist.

    • Hhhhmmmm…. That is fascinating to know. My youngest has really curly locks. I guess she could go for it some day!

  • Mummabstylish Mummabstylish

Fab list – dropping in from ‘The Blended Blog’ great blog, hope to come back and visit soon. Jacqui
