Three Things Thursday, March 2017

I’ve been thinking about writing a Three Things post for quite some time now and I finally scheduled one in my planner, on a Thursday. Three Things Thursday has quite the ring to it, am I right? I’m totally right, right ๐Ÿ˜† ?! I am always a sucker for an alliteration and I know so many of you are too.

Today’s post is all about my family. Not so much our life together, but highlighting 3 things that are unique to each of us as individuals

1) Russ has been working so hard at getting house stuff going. It seriously amazes me but also worries me that building this house will age us by about 10 years. There is just so much work to do.

2) He recently discovered the Hydraulic Press Channel on YouTube and I’m not going to lie, it’s pretty hilarious.

3) Russ also has an upcoming fishing trip with some guys from work… but he doesn’t really fish. I am really proud of him for putting himself out there and taking advantage of the opportunity though. I hope he is pleasantly surprised and has a good dose of “beginners” luck.

1) I Can’t stop pinning all things farm-house on Pinterest. I think my husband is becoming a bit worried over all of the ideas that I have going on in my head. AKA things for him to make or do. What he doesn’t realize is that I am okay waiting in order to get what I want.

2) Next weekend I am taking photos for the high school co-op students spring formal and I am secretly terrified. I feel pretty comfortable taking photos of my kids but the thought of messing up photos for someone else scares me! I am hoping and praying they turn out amazing.

3) I finished consignment sale prep last week thanks to a small miracle. Of course I had motivation knowing that Marissa wouldn’t have any clothes to wear this summer unless I made some money to buy her some new ones. That kid is growing like a weed.

1) Lately she has been crafting #allthethings. She loves getting craft kits for Christmas and her birthday and she recently decided to finish all of them on the same day, at least it felt like it.

2) Multiplication facts aren’t a big deal anymore. What used to be a struggle, she is now thriving in. It’s crazy how just a few weeks can change things.

3) She’s been working super hard to prepare for her part in the Constitution program at co-op. I’m really excited to see how my super shy girl does.

1) Is getting ready to take her first standardized test ever and she couldn’t possibly dread it anymore than she does. She is a REALLY smart girl, but I can see a long test being a bit of a struggle for a kid who can lack motivation to finish her work.

2) If I had a dollar for every time she asks “When does the pool open?” I could pay cash for our summer pool passes ๐Ÿ˜Ž . It has to be at least every other day… and it’s making me crazy.

3) Her recent outfits have consisted of all things Minnie Mouse (some how I bet you aren’t surprised). Since she is growing like a weed (now wearing 7-8’s in most things) she just had to get some new Minnie stuff.

Tell me something that is going on in your life right now?

It's Three Things Thursday. Today I'm sharing the current ins and outs of our family. #familylife Click To Tweet

  • Aww, I loved this post!! Matt often fears all the things I ask about as well. Like “So… would it be hard to remove the stain off of this?” Most of the things I ask are little projects I want to do myself, but he still rolls his eyes. Good luck to Emily, I’m sure she’ll rock it!

    • Haha! Russ’ biggest laugh is when I say it isn’t anything huge.” and then show his said project. I always underestimate how much work something is going to be.

  • Lizzie Simantz

We on the same wave lengths friend, I’ve been planning a currently 3 things too, just need to actually do it LOL! I love this so much! I love how much of a crafter Marissa is and that Emily still loves Minnie! You are going to do great at taking those photos girl, don’t sweat it!!

    • I sure hope I do a good job. I am mostly just thankful that my body got sick this week instead of waiting until next week. Bleck! That would have been bad. Cant wait to see your 3 things post.

  • Love this catch up post. I need to get my kids’ stuff together to do a sale as well. And you take such beautiful pictures! You’ll do great at the formal!

  • Jessica

I love these posts and need to do another one about us. Your girls are growing up so fast. I love Emily had to get some new Minnie stuff. I just bought Emmy a shirt at Kohls by Jumping Beans. So cute!!

    • Don’t remind me :(. I always love seeing Emmy’s Minnie stuff. Target has been a really great place for me to find stuff for Emily.

  • You are too cute, the family too. I love this update on my favorite people in all of Missouri.

  • Mason loves alliteration and I enjoy listening to him come up with things! Ha. I hope Russ loves fishing! I think itโ€™s therapeutic to most men. And maybe he can use that time to destress and relax from the busy that is house building! I pray that time refreshes him. Iโ€™m with you on the farmhouse stuff! My aunt just bought a lakehouse and she was showing me everything she printed out that was farmhouse themed that she wanted to do. She takes those printouts with her to stores and recreates the looks. Sheโ€™s done such a great job! Makes me want to follow her lead. I get to a store and canโ€™t remember anything I want to do or put anything together. I was right there with you on Sunday when taking pictures for my friendโ€™s engagement day! Eeek. So much stress and pressure. And you know what? I havenโ€™t even looked at the photos. Iโ€™m terrified I botched them. Ugh! I know you will do well, friend! Your pictures are always amazing. I love that Marissa loves to craft. A girl after my own heart! And Emily โ€“ Mason is in the same boat! He is super intelligent, but his ADHD kicks in and he loses focus.

    • I bet the pictures turned out AMAZING! I will have to remember your aunts tips. I am SO lost on that whole part of the process. Right now the only thing I can seem to wrap my head around is getting this place ready to sale. That is all. I really hope Russ has a good time to. Fishing is pretty much sitting or standing around drinking beer, right? How could he not love that?!

  • Fun updates! Henry has been asking about craft stuff lately, so I’m trying to slowly stock up on some things for summer! I just rounded up Calvin’s outgrown clothes to take to our local consignment shop!

    • That is a really great idea. I need to start coming up with a summer plan but everything around here feels really crazy lately.

  • I never knew Emily was named Emily Elizabeth – like Clifford! Good luck with the consignment sale. I did pretty well in mine and donated the rest of the things that I didn’t sell. I was surprised how well toys sold since I usually just sell clothes! Gabbie likes crafts too but she never finishes her kits!!

    • Yes! She is named after two of her great, great grandmothers. It is actually what Russ was going to have been named if he would have been a she, HA! I did really well too which was such a happy surprise. We have a few of those unfinished projects lying around too.

  • These posts are always fun to read, Ive been thinking of doing one for ages too! Id be rich for all the times I say,”dont put that in your mouth” at work lol. Too bad it doesnt work that way!

    • Baha ha ha! So funny and goodness I remember those days. You should totally do one!

  • I’m sure you will do a great job with the photos next week! And I hope Russ has a successful fishing trip!

  • I love this type of post where you get to learn a little about people through random facts!
Good luck with the photos next week. It can be scary since I’m sure you’re used to how your kids cooperate and behave while trying to take pictures and you don’t know how these kids are like, but I know you’ll do great!

    • Well the good thing is these kids are 14+ so if they don’t behave and stand still then goodness gracious, they are a lost cause. Baha ha ha! Thank for the vote of confidence. I sure can use it! Happy Sunday Liz.

  • Whitney Jordan

I love these three things posts!! Yay for Russ having a new friend opportunity. It’s definitely a challenge to make real friends as an adult. Hope he has a great time. Great work on getting things ready to consign. I’m doing the same hoping to clear things out a bit. Your girls are getting so big! Love their crafty, sweet, smart qualities. Good luck to them on their end of the year testing. My students always appreciated when we’d walk through what their testing day would be like so they knew what to expect. Maybe that would help Emily to finish strong and show what she knows on the tests ๐Ÿ™‚

    • That is a great idea. I love that the testing is pretty informal too. It will just be her and a friend of hers with one proctor so they can really keep an eye on them to make sure they are doing alright with the process. Good luck getting rid of some stuff. It was super helpful to have that extra money to go towards some new clothes!

  • The hydraulic press channel?! What would we do without YouTube? Your family is so cute! This house building stuff is going to be intense for your guys, but how exciting is all of this? ๐Ÿ™‚

    • It is hilarious and awesome and I just know you would laugh so stinking hard. Please check it out Jen. We are super excited!

  • I can imagine how overwhelming the to-do list for the build will be. Oy. You got this!

  • I cannot imagine how overwhelming it is building a house from the ground up! I do love what you said though…you are willing to wait to get what you want! I think so many times I’ve jumped the gun needing something “right now” and then later realizing it wasn’t what I really wanted after all.

    • And it has only been amplified by building in a location with no basic essentials and a husband who is dead set on framing the house part of the building himself. Oh Dear Lord friend. This is going to age me by 20 years :P.

      • Haha…I have some sense of what you are dealing with. My in-laws moved to about 350 acres 13 years ago and it took them a really long time and a lot of money just to get electricity. They built a barndominium and are just now starting the bldg process for an actual house and my father-in-law is planning on doing most of the work!! Girl…this means my husband will be doing most of the work …ugh!

        • Haha! It totally sounds like you know EXACTLY what I am talking about then. Oh goodness, I am so sorry girl.

  • “Three Things Thursday” does have such a fun ring to it! I loved this post! It’s been so much fun getting to know you and your family better through your blog. ๐Ÿ™‚ I can’t begin to imagine all the work you guys have ahead of you, but I also know your dream home will be worth the effort …and obviously super cute with you involved in it, pinning your stylish heart out! ๐Ÿ˜‰ My youngest is constantly crafting — our girls would get along so well. I’ve been hearing a lot of daydreaming about pool time here too. We have an 18 foot round above ground pool, that we have to disassemble and re-put up each year because of the lovely Midwestern winters you also know so well …so there already a countdown going here to when that will make its backyard comeback. lol. A fun summer awaits us all! Meanwhile, I’ll be praying for those test taking and photography nerves to settle. (I struggle with anxiety myself, so I totally get it!) xo – Brenda //

    • Thank you so much! My girls would LOVE a pool of any kind in the backyard. We normally get a pool pass every year and veg at the public pools ALL summer long. Being home a little more would be pretty handy. Hope y’all are having a great week. It has been rainy and bleck here so I am actually pretty happy our spring break was postponed.
