Adventure Awaits, The Beginning of a New Chapter

It’s here, it’s here, it’s here, IT’S here!!! I have been dropping hints and teasers for a while now and today I finally get to let the cat out of the bag and share some exciting news with y’all. Here we go!

Sometimes life throws something unexpected your way and you just have to leap.

You didn’t set out looking for it, but it found you. You didn’t even realize it was something you wanted, but now it has your heart. This is exactly what brought us to this change in our life.

One short year ago I would have told you we’d live in our current home forever. We dreamed this house, built this house (literally), and have created so many memories in our home. It was the home we always wanted, but never expected to have. It was my realistic dream home. A home that was built as an effort to rebuild our city when 1/3 of it was wiped out by a tornado. We had so many volunteers donate and help make this new home possible. After living here for nearly 5 years now, I know this was the place that God wanted us to be for a season of our life.

But now we find ourselves in a place where our days there are numbered and a new adventure awaits…

An adventure that is 6 acres of wooded land just north of town. There is currently no road, no utilities and of course no home. But there is plenty of space, plenty to explore, and so many trees.

It means work, lots of work and money, LOTS of money. But trading one dream for another just feels right. We have been tossing & turning, debating & deliberating the decision for months now. Ultimately it came down to regret. Would we regret not going for this dream? We absolutely would.

Timelines are currently uncertain. There is still SO much to do before we can even begin the painful process of trying to sell our current home and even more exhausting task of building another. The work it is going to take is so daunting that at times we have questioned if it would even be worth it. And every time we do, we decide yes. I’ve also had to eat my own words. On more than one occasion I repeatedly said we would never build another home… but here we are.

Someday that is where our home will be.

A home that will be far from traditional but perfectly us. I can’t wait to share the entire journey with you as it unfolds! Come back tomorrow when I share a little more about our plans for the new home and the decor inspiration that I am already finding.

New adventure awaits. Making an exciting announcement in today's blog post! Click To Tweet

What’s exciting news!! I can’t wait to watch this journey unfold. Building a house is quite the experience (as you know), but it’s so well worth it in the end. Congrats hun!

    • Boy howdy is it… and we always seem to make everything as complicated as possible lololol. Thank you!

  • Love this! So exciting!!! Enjoy the adventure!

  • Exciting!!! I often think about just walking away and buying a new house but we cannot even afford it. Geez. Now I can live vicariously through you!!!! I spy lots of future Target trips hehehe.

    • Dude I totally know exactly how you feel. Before the tornado we were stuck in a 900sqft house and couldn’t afford anything else, lol! Once you see our method of building you may want to live a little less through me too, HA!

  • How exciting!!! A little part me thought, “they are moving…. to MI!”… πŸ˜‰ So excited for you to build your home! Matt and I have briefly thought about if we would do that when we start looking for a new home (years and years down the road).

    • Lol! Oh goodness a big move would be exciting but I think if we were to move anywhere crazy it would be to NASCAR country.

  • Amy Smith

Yay! I was hoping this was the news! As you know, I’m so, so excited for you guys! Can’t wait to follow along. It has always been a dream of ours to build one day. So happy for you!

    • Yes ma’am I have been biting my tongue on this one since August, Geez, 6 months. Thank you so much for sharing the excitement with us.

  • So happy for you guys, my friend! Such a exciting time… and a wee bit stressful.

    • Haha, YES! Russ is already stressing, uh oh.

  • Meghan Flinn

Oh how exciting! Definitely a lot of work but I understand that feeling of regret if you don’t do it! And as a reader and friend, I’m excited to follow along with the process!

    • I hate knowing we would have regretted passing it up. Even if it adds some stress for a season. Blogging about it will be fun.

  • Heather Bramlett

EEEKKK… so exciting!! I can’t wait to follow along on the journey!

    • Thank you so much. It will be fun to blog about it!

  • Lizzie Simantz

How exciting Beth!! I cannot wait to follow along!

  • So exciting!! This will be such a wonderful journey to follow with you and your family!

    • Thank you so much Ashley. We are thrilled.

  • So exciting, Beth!! A fun adventure for sure! I can’t wait to see how it unfolds!

  • So exciting! Six acres sounds amazing!

    • Thank you, it really is! It’s funny how 6 acres of trees feels HUGE too.

  • How exciting Beth! I cannot wait to hear all about this new adventure. It might be overwhelming and scary, but that make the ending even sweeter. I cannot wait to follow along and am so excited and happy for you!!!

    • Thank you so much! Your thoughts are exactly my thoughts too. I really think in the end we will be so happy.

  • What awesome news! Congrats!!

  • How exciting! You would regret moving out to nature- it was the best thing we ever did- so good for my soul!!

    • Just being out there proves that to me. I mean there are TREES out there and that alone makes my heart sing. Living in a town where the middle 3rd is virtually tree-less is kind of depressing.

  • Such excited news Beth!!! I can’t wait to follow your journey!

  • So exciting! This is is big news and a big project. I can’t wait to see all of the updates πŸ™‚

    • Thank you Jen. Blogging about the process should be a lot of fun.

  • Okay, I totally had a brain-fart and forgot that you hadn’t shared this news on your blog yet! But yay! I am glad you shared. You know how happy and excited I am for you. I love your vision for it and can’t wait to read more about it tomorrow! Love you, friend!

    • Heheh he! Oh goodness I couldn’t love you more. I have been biting my tongue on this since August when we first saw the property!!! L

  • WOW! How exciting! this is like, my dream project. Best wishes for your family! Hope everything goes smoothly.

    • Well you are more than welcome to help a sister out, lol. Thank you, we do too!

  • Wow! This is so exciting. I can’t wait to see the process and cheer you guys on as it goes!

    • Thank you so much Dara. We are going to need the cheering, lol.

  • Well isn’t that just so exciting!! I’m happy for you guys. Can’t wait to hear about it.

    • Thank you so much Courtney! We are super excited to get things going.

  • Oh my gosh that is so exciting!!! You can really start from scratch and make it even more how you want it.lessons learned from the current house! Good luck!! Oh and leaving comments is working now. Strange that it wasn’t before.

    • SO many lessons learned. This house is going to be WAY different friend. I love our current place but I feel like we learned SO much. I think Disqus has been glitchy on phones. I had a couple of others try right after you told me and it worked okay for them so I assumed it wasn’t me.

  • Whitney Jordan

What a fun adventure!! You guys are going to LOVE living there. I can’t wait to see how your big project unfolds and see the details of your new house plans. I bet the girls are excited πŸ™‚

    • Thank you so much Whitney. We can totally become unschoolers, lololol KIDDING. We are all excited but I can’t imagine a better place for girls our age to run, explore, and play.

  • So SO exciting for you, friend!!!! I am so excited to follow along with you during the whole process!! Building a house is so much fun!! And I’m like you, when B and I built our house 7 years ago, I told him that I would probably die there. Haha. But lately I’ve been having some thoughts about maybe building again someday. And girl, all of those acres!! What a dream!

    • I’m a total moron but I never realized y’all built that place, wow. Yeah I had a BAD attitude about building for a long time, but we had babies when we did it and I was in a bad spot emotionally after the tornado. It was all just a bit much and I am hoping that things go MUCH better this time around. It IS a dream. 6 acres really isn’t much, but with all of the trees and so much wooded land around us, it feels HUGE!

  • Cat @

I’m super excited for y’all! We would love to have a little more land like that so we share a similar dream πŸ™‚

    • I have always wondered what country living would be like. Can’t believe we are going to find out. We are really excited.

  • This is such exciting news!!! Eeee!!! It reminds me of Little House in the Big Woods- have fun making your dream home a reality!

    • And you my friend just made me smile really big. Marissa has been reading that whole series for school this year :).

  • I have never been so happy for a family as I am with you. I know this is a huge leap but God has you tightly protected in His hands. I will be here with you every step of the way. I can’t wait to see your new home!

    • And the winner for the comment that made me cry goes to… you. Goodness gracious girl. Your my sister from another mister who I love to pieces.

  • Ashley

How exciting!! I’m so happy for y’all and can’t wait to read as it all unfolds!!

    • Thanks Ashley, it is going to be so much fun.

  • WOW WOW WOW!!! Big news!!! So exciting! Congratulations!

  • Three boys and a girl blog

this is going to be such a fun adventure for y’all!! how awesome to follow your dream and start fresh…it will be sad to leave your current house but you will cherish those memories and make new ones!!

    • YES! My thoughts and hopes exactly. I will probably bawl like a baby when we move though.
