My Plans for 2017!

Here we are nearly two weeks into 2017 and I have yet to document anything that I want to accomplish in the new year!

Honestly this isn’t completely abnormal. Anyone that knows me well, knows that I really don’t care for New Years resolutions. In my opinion they just seem like a way to set yourself up for failure. If you want to do something, just do it! But on the other hand I do LOVE goals and January is a great time to figure out where you would like to set your focus for the next 12 months.

Much like my regular monthly goals, I decided to set up my plans for 2017 in categories. But unlike my regular goals, I want to keep them pretty focused by not having multiple to-do’s in each category. These goals are a way for me to look at the big picture. I’ll work on the little things through the months that make up 2017.

For 2017 I have decided to focus my growth on my Instagram account. Instead of trying to grow multiple forms of social media simultaneously, I will be focusing solely on IG. I am hoping it pays off in a big way. I started the year with 2,722 followers. We’ll see how much I grow!

Family goals for 2017 would include taking some kind of summer trip and working on deepening relationships with my girls. I want them to be able to talk to me about ANYTHING. If I don’t continue fostering and building deep, strong relationship with them now, there won’t be much going on when we hit the teen years. And let’s be honest, those aren’t too terribly far away #allthetears.

I want to run the Joplin Memorial Half, preferably with Russ. I also want to do the Dogwood Canyon 9 mile trail run in the fall. It is supposed to be REALLY tough, but a new challenge is just what I need.

This year I want to grow more in my personal relationship with God. Christianity is a TERRIBLE hobby friends. I want to really grasp my need for God and when I don’t grasp that I pray that I want, to want to need Him. All to often I do things my way and in my strength.

Home school-

Outside of continuing to home school, I would love to be more patient and have more grace with my girls. Home school standards are tough. Often I forget that the work the girls are doing is almost always a full year ahead of what public education standards are. I want to teach my girls with more love and grace.

I almost skipped out on this category but two things kept coming to my mind.
#1 I want to work on being a better friend to my on and offline connections.
#2 I want to do some purging. Stuff, toys, and clothes. If we aren’t using it and don’t plan to, it needs to go.

So that’s it!

Those are my plans to make 2017 an awesome year. Do I think I’ll do an awesome job, they’ll come easily, and I will mark all of them off?! Not even a little bit. But they give me something to work toward and Lord willing I’ll complete a couple of them.

How are you planning to make 2017 awesome?

I like goals as well and find it easier to accomplish those than resolutions. I love all of your goals. They aren’t huge tasks that are unattainable, so I know you will hit them right out of the park. I wanna see how you deepen your relationship with the girls, so I do the same thing. Haha!

    • Oh man it is so hard, especially with two of them. I want them to grow close to each other and me at the same time!

  • Meghan Flinn

Awesome goals for the year! I’m reminded all the time to offer more grace. My new motto is to react to things Chris and Noah do as if they were guests in my house instead of family. We are (or at least I am) way kinder and patient to people outside our family!

    • That is a fantastic motto friend. I need to implement that too.

  • I like your idea of focusing on one social media platform; Instagram seems to be where it’s at!

    • I have tried to do it all before and it is just hard. Maybe if I get to where I want to be on IG, I’ll shift gears but until then, that is where I am.

  • Woot!! Love the goals! ๐Ÿ™‚ Pretty sure you are going to rock the IG one! Your family goal is great as well. Relationships with our children is so important. ๐Ÿ™‚ And I am with you on the relationship with God. That is one of my goals (which doing a devotional will hopefully help).

    • Thank you so much friend. Your support is awesome!

  • These are all great goals to have this year! IG is probably my favorite part of social media right now. I hope you have a great day!

    • Me too. I have been spending A LOT more time on there lately. I need to find some balance!

  • Great goals for the year! I’m actually going to post mine next week, so as usual, I’m later than you are! lol!

    • Bahaha ha! As long as you share them in January, it’s good!

  • Heather Bramlett

    Great goals!
I would love to increase my IG followers, as well! It’s my favorite social media! I want to see all the pictures….not your status update! HA
What an awesome goal for a half marathon!! ๐Ÿ™‚

    • Exactly. Life in pictures is so much easier. Thank you!

Great goals friend. And because youโ€™re awesome I know you will totally crush them. I just love your Insta and know that it will continue to grow. I love that you want to deepen your relationship with your girls. Makes me want to cry! My mom and I were not close at all while growing up. We are closer now than when I was younger. Praise Jesus for that! Your spiritual goals โ€“ we kind of talked about this last night at church! Jesus knows our flesh and our desire to do things our way and in our timing and he loves us all the same. Thatโ€™s where grace comes in. Your #1 random goal is my heartโ€™s desire! Canโ€™t wait to see what 2017 has in store for us sweet friend.

    • My mom and I weren’t really ever close on a deep level, and we really aren’t now days. I want so badly for things to be different with my girls. Such good stuff friend. I am really excited to see how 2017 goes too.

  • I love all of these goals, and you seem like such a go-getter (my kinda girl!) so I have no doubt that you’ll crush them all! I just checked your Instagram followers and HOLY FOLLOWERS, BETH!!!! You’ve already increased them by a billion! You need to email me and give me some tips! I want to hit 5k (at least) this year, but I am struggling!

    • I knew someone would notice that, go figure its you :*. I have been kicking butt over on IG, but I have been living on there too. We’ll have to email more about it once I find a way to balance it all out.

Totally a go-getter. Always have been, always will be.

Let me know if you want help planning your summer trip

  • Jen Stimbert Pabst

I love love love all of your goals! Best of luck!!!

  • Great stuff, friend! I love your blogging goal to focus on just one area – that’s such a great idea! Your goal to grow in your relationship with God is one that will never disappoint you – love that!

    • So true. And yes, big picture goals have to be really focused for me. I think if I didn’t do monthly goals I may go about it differently.

  • Love the blogging goal. I think it will pay off for you!

  • Love! Can’t wait to see you be awesome in 2017

  • Amen to Christianity being a poor hobby (you are always right there with me, how do we do that?!) Really prioritizing time in the Word has done wonders for my thought life. Maybe we can set up a virtual bible study or something? ๐Ÿ™‚

    • #1 I love you, #2 you are a genius!!!! That is an AMAZING idea. I have no clue what that would look like but oh my goodness I LOVE the idea.

      • Me too!!! I was hoping with our Type A planning skills we could make something work ๐Ÿ™‚

        • Let’s think on it and talk more soon. I think it is definitely something worth pursuing!

  • Whitney Jordan

Amazing goals for the new year!! I can relate to so many of your goals and am working on similar things this year. I’d also love to grow my instagram so I’d love any tips in that area. Great goals for your teaching. Your girls are so smart and lucky to have you for their teacher.

    • Growing IG is hard work! But so far I think my efforts have been paying off. Strategizing hashtags has been huge and not using SUPER popular ones seems to be a much better idea. Thanks friend :).

  • Desiree @ Macke Monologues

You’ve set some serious goals, and I have no doubt you’ll reach them!
I have a few half marathons in my sights, perhaps a full. And, I really, really, REALLY want to be able to do an actual pull-up. (insert laughing emoji here)

    • I KNOW! I was just thinking about that one the other day but it just feels impossible :(.

  • You are going to do big things this year and I’m eager to see where you end up.

    • Thank you so much friend. I hope wherever I end up your not to far away :).

  • Fabulous goals! I admire you for home schooling. My patience at home lacks a lot!

    • Oh man, mine does to friend. Thank you! I never imagined being a home school family. Sometimes it still seems so strange.

  • YES! I agree. I hate resolutions too. I swear I fail at them after like 2 weeks and then just feel terrible. I have a post coming soon too that talks about my goals/word/what have you for 2017 also. This is going to be a great year!

    • Exactly! They are THE worst. I sure hope it is friend. Sometimes I feel so confident, other times I get so nervous.
