Friday Highlights 1.27.17

Hello Friday!

It has been a whirlwind of a week friends but it is finally Friday. This week feels like it was at least an entire month-long. I can’t believe all that we have done and felt in only 7 short days. Have you ever had one of those weeks?

Let’s check out this week’s 5

Happy Birthday Russell

Today this guy turns 37!

Birthday plans include his annual birthday meal of cheesecake, lasagna and who know’s what after that. The plan is to keep festivities pretty low-key this year, which is exactly what we need right about now.

I would tell you to leave him a birthday wish, but he doesn’t read my blog πŸ™„ . To quote him “I don’t need to read it, I live it.” I hope y’all believe me when I tell you he can be quite the handful some days.

So now the question we are all wondering, does your spouse read your blog? Leave me your answer in the comments.

Saying Goodbye

We made a whirlwind trip up to St. Louis  for Grandpa John’s funeral this past weekend. It was a beautiful celebration and testimony of God’s grace. We are so honored to call him ours.

I want to say a HUGE thank you to those of you who have reached out with messages of support for our entire family over the past week. We really, really appreciate your love and prayers during this difficult time.

I have been asked several times how I make my graphics and today I will give you the DL.

I do all my photo editing in PicMonkey. Shockingly enough I don’t own fancy photo editing software, but I also try to shoot my photos so they only need very minimal editing to save time.

I find LOTS of my graphics on Pixabay. I LOVE that I can find so many amazing images that I can legally use FOR FREE!

Once I find the perfect graphic I create images like these in Canva. My absolute favorite font that I use on 95% of my graphics is Brusher. The exception to the rule would be creating collages. I always do those in PicMonkey. So to clarify, I made all of those graphics in Canva, but put the collage you see together on PicMonkey.

Confused yet?

I hear you either love PicMonkey or Canva, never both. I personally feel like each has their own strength and I couldn’t live without either of them.

  • Jessica

Drew doesn’t read my blog either. He does follow me on IG, so he sees things on there. I use PicMonkey and haven’t figured Canva out yet. Ha ah! Have a great weekend.

    • See I am totally the opposite. I figured out canva effortlessly but Pic Monkey blows my mind. How do you ever know if anything is centered on there?! Happy Monday friend.

  • Amy Smith

So, you are totally right. I’ve tried canva {mainly for images on my phone}, but am a forever lover of PicMonkey. When I was blogging, Luke would go in spurts. Enjoy celebrating Russ’ birthday this week!

    • I wish I knew how to use PicMonkey better, but I just can not figure it out. How can you tell if anything is centered? Have a great Monday friend!

  • So I have never heard of canva! I need to check it out. I do love Picmonkey though.
    Happy Birthday to your Hubby!!
I hope you all have a great weekend =)

    • Well it seems like the odds of you liking Canva are pretty slim, since you already love PicMonkey, but you should check it out for sure.

      Thank you so much.

  • Three boys and a girl blog

Patrick reads my blog and is always commenting on errors I make. Drives me insane. Love the little tutorial on how you make your graphics. I like pic monkey and couldn’t figure out canva but need to play around with it! Happy bday to your hubs!!

    • Meghan Flinn

My husband does the same with my errors! Will send me an email with a typo or fact check lol! He means well but it’s so annoying!

    • Lololol! That would drive me completely up the wall too. I am telling you it must be a left brain, right brain thing. I feel the same exact way about canva, I simply can not. Thank you!

  • Meghan Flinn

Thank you for the blog love! Andvyes, chris reads the blog. Though once he asked a question about something and I said “I guess you didn’t read the blog, cause I was talking about this exact topic”. He admitted that sometimes he just “looks at the photos” lol. Though he’s often informing me of typos, so I know he sometimes reads it too πŸ˜‰

    • Lol! That is hilarious. I think the typo thing would make m crazy too. I mean, we all make them, right?!

  • I’m so sorry to hear about your family’s loss. My thoughts and prayers are with you all. XOXO Happy Birthday to Russ, even thought he won’t read this! My husband reads some of my posts, but not all. I hope you have a good weekend!

  • Lizzie Simantz

Happy Birthday to Russ even if he doesn’t read πŸ™‚ Rick reads mine occasionally, but not daily, at least I don’t think so?? I should ask LOL. Thanks for the info on graphics, that’s super helpful!! Have a great time celebrating! xo

    • At least I don’t think so, lol! I was hoping that would help someone. I have gotten a lot of emails asking me what I use. Happy Monday.

  • Enjoy celebrating your hubby! It totally cracked me up hearing what he says about not needing to read your blog! My husband will read mine if I have a post already up on the computer and ask him to! lol. Russ is right though, they do live it! ha! What a joy that in the midst of grieving you can count it such a blessing to have had such an incredible man in your family’s life! Praise God for His goodness and that this life is not the end of the story! Sending much love your way! xo – Brenda //

    • YES! Russ has read a few like that too. I used to always have him read the heart felt serious posts, before I posted them. Now days I just email them to a friend, lol.

      Thank you so much.

  • I totally use both Canva and PicMonkey too. They both have different things they are good at. Pretty sure my husband doesn’t read my blog either.

    • Yay! I’m not the only one who loves both and I’m not the only one who’s hubby doesn’t read either. Y’all always make me feel better!

  • Dave reads my blog sometimes, I think. I feel embarrassed when he talks to me about it! Was it your grandpa that passed away? I’m sorry for your loss. I use picmonkey!

    • Haha! I can totally see that. I mean it would sound weird to “so I saw on your blog that….” It was Russ’ Grandpa. I completely adored that man. Thank you.

  • Hope you guys have fun celebrating Russell’s bday! Keith doesn’t read my blog either and I laughed because I can only imagine him saying something exactly the same!

    • Lololol! For some reason from the things you have said about Keith I can totally see Russ sounding a lot like him in several areas :).

  • Happy Birthday Russ!
And yes, thank you for introducing me to Pixabay. I have loved using them for my graphics.

    • I am so glad you have liked it friend and thank you for the b-day wish.

  • Happy birthday to your husband and so sorry to hear about your loss!! I also use picmonkey all the time. I used to have photoshop at work but the membership ran out and I haven’t wanted to pay for it yet.

    • I don’t blame you at all. I HATE paying for that kind of stuff. Especially with free alternatives out there. Thank you.

  • My Russ reads my blog. I don’t think every post, but most of them. I’m going to have to check out Pixabay. I love Canva!

    • I debated if I wanted to share that secret or not, lololol! I love the stuff I find on there. Beats some of the freebies on Canva!

  • Girl, we are totally having the same kind of week. This week has felt like at least a month and I’m so thankful that it’s almost over.

I’ve always wondered how you create your graphics, too… they are always SO GOOD.

Thank you so much for the shoutout!

Tell Russ happy birthday from all of your blogger pals!!

    • OMG it was THE worst. Now I think I am getting sick… again. What the heck I quit.

Thank you, you can guarantee that I did!

  • So sorry to hear about Grandpa’s passing. =(

  • So sorry to hear about your grandpa. Always tough. I use the same thing as you for editing, even though I have photoshop, it’s just easier in Picmonkey and Canva! But you do really kill it with the graphics, so good! Happy Birthday to Russ, my Mr. reads it every once in a while, but mostly not really.

    • Thank you, thank you friend. I was happy to hear so many other wives say that their husbands aren’t faithful readers either.

  • Whitney Jordan

Your graphics are wonderful!! Thanks for the tips. I’m a picmonkey girl, but it sounds like I need to give Canva a try. I really like that you’ve made them for all of your regular link ups. Smart thinking! Thanks for the Snow Day feature πŸ™‚ We are still hoping for some snow this winter! Hope you’re having a great weekend. My husband does read my blog. He doesn’t read it daily, but he’ll catch up a few times a week. I lol’d at Russ’s comment πŸ™‚

    • Thank you so much Whitney it almost seems like a left brain, right brain thing. You should try it though. You are welcome!

  • Paul doesn’t read my blog either! He does follow me on Instagram, and he watches my YouTube videos – but only if he’s in the video or it reveals his Christmas gifts. LOL. Thanks for the tips on how you make your graphics. They always look so great! I use PicMonkey but not Canva – I’ll give it a try!

    • Lolololol! So funny! I can see Russ doing the same exact thing. Happy Monday friend.

  • Happy birthday Russ!! Hope you guys had a great weekend celebrating!
Oh, and to answer your question, yes, Seth does read my blog usually πŸ™‚

    • Thanks Liz! All was fine and dandy until I got sick :(.

  • I hope your guy had the best of birthdays!! Love that picture of him and his girls. Haha! Nathan only reads my blog when I send him a direct link to a post. Or at least that’s what I think. I too use Picmonkey a lot! I also love Canva for finding templates and using fonts that cut off in Picmonkey!

    • Like Brusher, lololol! It was great until I got sick, BOO!!!! At least I am feeling better now.
