Monthly Goals, October 2016

Hello October, Hello Fall!

When I was putting my goal post together last month I was so excited that summer was almost over. Now, it feels like we are knee deep in fall. It is crazy to me how much can change in single month.

I knew with 8 days of vacation that September was going to be “rough”. What I didn’t know is the whole week before said vacation I would feel like I got ran over by a bus. My September just wasn’t what i hoped it would be goal wise.

* Have several blog posts scheduled so I can take most of the month โ€œoffโ€
* Host or Co-host a giveaway
* Start working on updating my About Me page
* New head-shot

For almost half of the month I didn’t write any blog posts and it was fantastic. This gave me the time I needed to pack for and enjoy vacation while keeping things normal around here. It was also really nice to be ahead when I had that HORRIBLE allergy attack. With sickness and vacation the updated About Me and head-shot just never happened. Maybe next month.

* Have the very best time enjoying our vacation together
* Wrap up our summer bucket list

Vacation was amazing. I am still in the middle of blogging all the details. You can check out recaps one and two here. We also finished our whole summer bucket list. I still can’t believe we did it all.

* 4-5 workouts a week
* Cut myself slack on vacation
* Run on the beach
* Run 5 miles twice

Can you say epic fail? I can.

When I was sick I didn’t go to the gym all week and then I was gone the next week. I tried to make it up by going Monday – Friday for the last two weeks of the month but that still only gave me 12 visits. Running on the beach just didn’t happen. I spent my early mornings with Marissa and much after sunrise it was just to dang hot. We did chase each other around though. And the 5 mile runs… nope.

However the cutting myself slack part. I totally nailed that.

* Continue praying for specific things with the girls
* Get connected to a Bible study or small group at church

Hooray, success. I love that the girls both have big hearts that want to pray. It has been a fairly new development and so awesome to watch. We also finally found a small group… then we found another. The first one wasn’t quite the right fit but I feel pretty good and abundantly thankful for where we are now.

goals6Home School-
* Continue having the week prepped on Sundays
* Get out of the house with our school work twice
* Attend home school skate

I have been writing all my lesson plans down on Sundays which does help to make my dreaded Monday morning easier. Outside of that when it came to school, we just got it done. I suppose that is enough though.

* Try a new recipe
* Decorate for fall
* Use a one photo a day app
* Wear more lipstick
* Drink more water
* Doodle at least two chalk boards

Apparently the randomness was my thing this month. Maybe I should make all my goals totally random from here on out?

For my October goals I would be totally content just working on our fall bucket list, baking and cooking all the fall foods, and trying every single pumpkin spice food item I can get my hands on. But I should probably be a little more ambitious than that?

* Host or Co-host a giveaway
* Start working on updating my About Me page
* New head-shot

*Work on our fall bucket list
*Attend the Hot Rod Reunion
*Have a movie night

* 4 workouts a week
*Eat more protein
*Find some new workouts to try

*Work with the girls in their AWANA books
*Attend small group
*Find a daily devotion and do it!

Home School-
* Continue having the week prepped on Sundays
* Get out of the house with our school work once
* Work with Marissa on memorizing multiplication facts

* Try 4 new recipes
* Decorate for Halloween
* Use a one photo a day app
* Pick out Halloween costumes
* Sort through the tubs of kids clothes in the attic
* Doodle at least two chalk boards

    I think overall you accomplished a lot in September even if you think it was a tough month. October is gonna be a great month! Love your goals.

  • Meghan Flinn

    I always love your goals. They are so well rounded and thoughtful! And I think cutting yourself some slack is just what is needed some months! Start fresh with October, you’ll do great!!!

    • Thank you! Starting fresh was needed and I have already crossed a few things off already. Maybe I will FINALLY accomplish everything this month… Well probably not but a girl can wish.

  • Lizzie Simantz

    I am seriously impressed on your goals for September even if you didn’t finish them! My monthly goals are usually like 3-4 things, LOL!! I soooo need to go through my kids clothes in the basement, pull out stuff, get rid of stuff and just organize their closets!

    • Oh my word I FINALLY did it this past weekend it was terrible, TERRIBLE! Sorry to make you dread it even more :P. I’d come help if I could. Nobody should have to do it alone.

  • I think you accomplished quite a bit in September! And I give you all the credit in the world for making so many goals and accomplishing them =) I absolutely love your chalkboard art. That is something that I really want in our kitchen, but i’m not so sure I am that creative..haha =)
    Have a great Monday!!!

    • I have the handwriting of a cereal killer so I thought my chalkboards would be terrible. You should totally give it a try! You might surprise yourself.

      • Baha ha I mean SERIAL killer. OMG I am gonna go drink some coffee now ๐Ÿ˜›

  • I’m all about random goals!! I think we all need to cut ourselves some slack sometimes!

    • So true. The random ones are usually more fun anyways.

  • I’m loving your goals this month and it’s okay that you didn’t accomplish it all in Sept— you got a chance to enjoy your family and get that well deserved vacation!!

    • I am pretty used to never accomplishing everything. Its been 19 months of goal setting and I haven’t done it yet :P. Yes! It was amazing.

  • Sometimes your body just needs a rest! No need to feel guilty! And girl, yes, you sure did tackle that list of random goals! Well done!

  • Desiree @ Macke Monologues

    Ok, you totally need a re-do at the beach JUST so you can get in a beach run! ๐Ÿ˜‰
    Cutting yourself some slack can be so good! It’s like recharging the batteries!!

    • I think you are totally right on that one. Shoot we were walking SO much every day. I didn’t even need to run. It was crazy!

  • Whitney Jordan

    Eat more protein – yes! I’m guilty of snacking on carbs so you’ll have to share your favorite ways to eat protein at the end of the month. Good luck with the multiplication memorizing! My students always loved multiplication skip counting songs when they were first learning and then we’d do timed tests, stop watch tests to see how quickly they could do them and then work to get faster and other random games to help them practice. #iheartthirdgrade

    • Well I can tell them to you now. I am not new to this protein rodeo. To be honest I hate most high protein foods. I eat a lot of egg whites, I choke down cottage cheese and I look for greek yogurts that have at least half the amount or more of protein compared to carbs. I also drink protein shakes too, but those are just on days I lift weights. Lots of chicken lunch meat and I only do mozzarella cheese when I am being CRAZY. Those have been my go to’s.

      I’ll have to look up some skip counting songs! Thanks Whitney.

  • Yay for pumpkin spice season! I saw pumpkin spice Twinkies yesterday. I haven’t eaten one of those in years, but the pumpkin spice almost had me. Glad you gave yourself a little grace on the goals not met!

    • That is awesome. I would have done the EXACT same thing. I also haven’t had a Twinkie since I was like 11. I think we should totally go for it ;).

  • Im glad you cut yourself some slack! Sometimes not getting stuff done is more motivating. What kind of giveaway do you have in mind? ๐Ÿ˜‰

    • The mug exchange hosts have something up there sleeves :). I posted about another that I have in mind on the MotherBoard though! As for goals, perfection is overrated.

      • I know about the Starbucks giveaway, co-host lol. And I signed up on MotherBoard just now!

        • Baha ha OMG! I totally forgot. It’s been a long, LONG day. Sorry friend. How could I ever forget you.

          • Haha, no worries, friend. I know you love me ๐Ÿ˜€

  • Not all goals are hit but that’s totally okay when you rock them month after month.

    • Totally. After all I am on month #22 of setting goals and I have yet to accomplished them all so far…. why start now.

  • chall1018

    I am usually better about nailing those random goals, too! I guess sometimes they are the more fun ones.

    • They totally are the more fun ones. Usually they are easier to cross off too!

  • Sometimes it’s just time for play and fun and it sounds like you have tons of that in September! This month, I definitely am getting back on the workout train (although I missed 3 days already – uggh!). I also hope to get some other progress this month, since last month was a bit of a bust! ๐Ÿ™‚

    • Good luck Kendall! It feels like such a hard season of the year to find focus, but we just have to do the best we can! Lots and LOTS of grace!

  • My goal right now is weight loss. I think you did great this month!

    • I think it is awesome that you are really digging in. Hope you get over that hump this time. Thank you friend!

  • Your trip looked amazing! It was fun to follow along on instagram to see what fun you were having.

    More ambitious than loving fall and enjoying pumpkin?? No…those sounds like great goals. ๐Ÿ˜‰ I can relate. I made 5 pumpkin recipes in one week recently. I should really be making actual supper meals to freeze for when baby shows up. But fall baking is just so much more fun than prepping meals!

    • It was SO good. SO very, very good.

      Baha ha IKR?! I think that should be my priority #1. I completely agree. Besides newborns sleep right? But why O’ why are they so exhausting… and adorable :).

      • Yes, they sleep while being rocked and cuddled. Not the easiest way to make supper though…

        • Or eat it :P. That was always what my girls did to me. They are so worth it though.

          • Worth it…yes! ๐Ÿ™‚
