Friday Highlights 2016, V29

Hello Friday!

Another week of summer fun is over.

This week was… long. Moods have been swinging from left to right around here and I must admit if feels like we are on an obstacle course trying to not get knocked off. BUT, we made it! Sometimes the arrival of a Friday morning is all we need for things to turn around.

Let’s take a look at this weeks Friday highlights!

{First lost tooth}

I’m not even sure how it is possible, but Emily lost her first tooth.

I mean seriously, how cute is she? I just love kids with little holes in their happy smiles.

It seems like yesterday that Marissa lost her first tooth, on her 6th birthday. I wrote this post about the tooth loosing drama we survived. Now just over two years later we are starting all over with another kid. Only Emily is a totally different child with a totally different outlook. Instead of crying and screaming she was laughing and having fun. Two very different girls but both made for some pretty great memories.

{Back to school countdown}

As much as it pains me to make this a part of my post… it is time to face reality.

schools start
I have nothing else to say about this right now.

{Photo Challenge}

A couple of my favorite bloggers, Amy and Jessica, are hosting an August photo challenge.

Fun In Sun
So fun, right?! I don’t have the best history completing photo challenges but I am going to do my best!

Be sure to join the fun on Instagram starting August 1st.
Follow the hashtag to connect with others doing the challenge too.

{Emily’s Eyes}

Many of you know about Emily’s eye problems and the long diagnosis list we received a few months ago.

We finally began vision therapy about a month ago. We aren’t going as frequently as they want us to, which means we have to work extra hard at home. If I am being honest vision therapy kind of surprised me. I’m not sure what I expected it to be, but it looks a lot more like playing games than anything else.

It is eye stretches. spinning, playing games with this crazy ball contraption. scissor walking, balance beams, and anything we can do to get the left and right side of her brain to have to work together. It takes time, lots of time but it is worth it.

We recently went to another Dr. appointment and received good news. Apparently something or some combination of somethings is working. The Dr. was pleased with what he saw, she is regaining vision from the 60/20 we were told she would have with glasses. He said he was really excited, therefore we all were too. We just keep working, praying and trusting.

    Thanks for the shout out girl! I’m so glad to hear that Emily’s therapy is going in the right direction! Such a blessing. Enjoy your Friday!

    • You bet friend. I need to set an alarm on my phone now! I really want to complete this challenge. Thank you and you too!

  • Cat @

    “I have nothing else to say about this right now. ” <— This made me laugh so hard! And praise God that Emily is regaining some of her vision! Doing extra therapy at home is hard, but it looks like you all are making some great progress. SO happy to hear that!

    • Thank you so much! We were pretty excited about that news too! Happy Friday!

  • So happy things are working out with her eye! Praise the Lord! And I can’t believe school is starting again for you! Ick!

    • I know, right. It seems especially weird since it feels like you guys just got out. But it has been almost 3 months for us. We need to go back before we loose our edge :P.

      Thank you! We are SO happy too.

  • Such great news about Emily’s eyes! I keep wondering when Henry will lose his first tooth! I really can’t wait!

    • Haha just keep an eye on them. Marissa told me her tooth was loose and lost it the same day that first time!

  • Emily looks so cute with that little gap in her smile! XOXO I’m so glad you’re saying improvement with her eyes!

    • Thank you so much. We are too! Hope you had a great weekend.

  • Look at that sweet girl and her missing tooth! I guess we will probably start experiencing that soon as well. Jacob is a DRAMA KING, though, so I just know he’s going to flip out like Marissa did!

    I’m so happy to hear about Emily and her progress with her eyes. I will continue to keep all of you in my prayers.

    • Haha! Hopefully you’ll be surprised.

      Thank you so much prayers are always appreciated.

  • That Fun in the Sun Photo Challenge looks so great. Might have to join in!

    • You totally should join it is going to be so much fun.

  • Whitney Jordan

    I’m SO excited to hear such a great update on Emily’s eyes!! Hooray!! Keep up the good work and it’s exciting to see healing prayers being answered. Enjoy these last few weeks of summer.

    • Thank you so much friend. I knew you would be excited about that news. We are doing our best two more weeks of summer fun are left!

  • Oh how exciting she lost her first tooth! I bet she was so happy!
    SUCH a bummer you guys only have 2 weeks of summer left but I know you will make the most of them!
    YAY for Emily’s vision getting better!! Those eye exercises must really be helping!
    Have a great weekend!

    • She was so happy. I still can’t believe it. Kids loose teeth between 5 & 7 so you just never know when it is going to happen.

      We are SO happy about eye improvement. It is answer to so much prayer.

  • I am so glad to hear that the vision therapy is working and that Emily is showing improvements! I find it super interesting that the goal is to get both sides of the brain to work together (so now I’m off to do a bit of research with that). I’ll keep you all in my prayers that things continue to improve.

    I’ll have to try joining in the photo challenge, but like you, my track record isn’t the best…

    • It is crazy how some of this eye stuff isn’t eye related at all but brain related. I feel like I am learning so much. Thank you friend.

      My track record on these things is AWFUL. I did every day of one in December and missed the very last day. I was SO mad.

  • It has been a pretty brutal week and so I am just now stopping in. So glad to see that Emily’s eyesight is improving. That is great news!

    We start school next Thursday and I am so behind the eight ball. Thank heavens for next day Amazon Prime shipping or we would be sunk!

    • Oh friend. I hope that next week is better for you.

      Amazon Prime is a lifesaver, all the time. I can’t believe you guys are starting back so early too. Eeekkk.

  • Desiree @ Macke Monologues

    Last week was a ringer for us, too! The weekend has never looked or felt so good!
    Whoop for the photo challenge! I’m hoping I can join in the fun.
    And YAY for progress for Emily! That’s such great news!!

    • I hope your weekend was everything you wanted and needed friend. Totally join the challenge. I always love seeing your creative takes on the prompts. I know you could totally rock this one.

  • Ashley

    I’ve been seriously lacking in the commenting department lately.

    Hooray for E’s eyes! What wondering news. So glad she is improving and that whatever it is you’re doing is working!!

    Also, I am not looking forward to Ellie losing teeth…it grosses the heck out of me and was one of my least favorite parts about teaching elementary school – the little showing me their loose teeth (barf!)

    • You are busy, busy, busy! Different seasons of lives make things hard.

      Thank you! We are SO happy too.

      SO gross, right?! It is the worst.

  • Meghan Flinn

    Yay for the good news about Emily’s eye! It might be a long process but at least you are moving in the right direction! And how is school starting so soon!?! We still have 6 weeks lol!

    • Well when you get out the last of April…. yeah. We had to go back especially early this year too. We’re taking a week off in September for vacation. I am not excited but the pools close except for on the weekends then. So we might as well hit the books.

  • Jessica

    We are just not gonna talk about school. Boo! Thanks for the shout out! Can’t wait to see what all people post. 🙂 yay for Emily’s progress!! She’s a rockstar.

    • She totally is. and lets not…. today came and I realized we were less than 2 weeks away now :(.

  • Praise Jesus for the progress!! I know this has been something that has weighed heavy on your hearts and minds so I am so excited to hear that all the hard work is paying off!

    • Yes, yes, yes! It was such a good report.
