Friday Highlights 2016, V23

Hello Friday!

What a week we have had friends. It has been VBS week around here which means early starts and long days. Add in all of the time we spend at the pool and it feels like we’ve hardly been home at all. This is definitely a favorite week of the girls and it is undeniably summer now, even though the calendar still says “spring”.

Weekend plans are super low-key and that is just what we need. After a really busy May, we are looking forward to relaxing more in June. So far that is working out perfectly.

Let’s take a peek at this weeks highlights.

{Post Recap}

This week on the blog I shared…

My Month in numbers, a recap of May
Thank you God for this day. A pretty transparent post where I shared my heart.

We had the best week at “Mindcraft” this week.
Set your mind and heart on things above, not on earthly things.

I love sending my girls and serving in VBS at a church that goes above and beyond to love those kids and show them Jesus. What a blessing. They also write their own VBS curriculum, it’s just amazing.

{Spring Bucket List}

Our Spring Bucket List by some miracle is complete!
Earlier this week I made s’mores with the girls just so we could knock off that last item on our list. I also took some spring photos of the girls that will be up on Monday.

Spring Bucket List with Free Printable
I am planning to share our “official” summer bucket list next week.
This year my plan is to go big! We’ll see how that works out.

Here is a throw back to 2014 & 2015‘s lists.

{Garden Progress}

I planted my garden about 5 weeks ago (but failed to take good starter photos). Here is an update on how things are going.

Currently I have lots of peppers, melons and tomatoes. Why? I plant my garden for canning reasons. Jalapeno Jelly, tomato sauce & salsa primarily. I build a stash and avoiding buying most of these products all year long. I have plans to plant some beans, lettuce, carrots or any combination of the above in a blank space I still have.

Things are growing really well this year so far. Pretty sure it has something to do with all of the fresh mushroom dirt I added before planting.

Beds Peppers

{Ice Cream Par-tay}

A couple of weeks ago I wrote a post on ‘how to host an ice cream sundae party’ on a budget.

Simple tips to help you host an amazing ice cream sundae part on a budget. #Ad #TopYourSummer #SoHoppinGood
My timing couldn’t have been better because wouldn’t you know, Marissa decided she wanted brownie sundaes for her birthday.

I can’t believe my girl is going to be 8 years old in a week! Just thinking about that makes me tear up. She has really grown in maturity and understanding over the past few months. I’m so blessed to be her mama.

Have a great weekend!
Weโ€™ll see you back here on Monday!

VBS at your church looks amazing! What a fun theme. I don’t understand mind craft, but it’s cool. Ha ha! Looking forward to seeing your summer bucket list. Your garden is amazing. Wow!! Have a great weekend.

    • I still don’t understand it myself but I think I may get it for the girls soon. Thank you so much friend.

  • Amy Smith

    Seriously?! 8?!

We thought about enrolling Cash in VBS this summer, but it is a little too long for him. He’ll definitely be able to do it next year though.

And your garden looks fab! So jealous. Luke put his plants out too early & not a one survived. He grows seeds in the basement, then moves them outside. Well, mother nature had some tricks up her sleeve & unfortunately she won.

    • Thank you Amy…. I KNOW! Nobody else was phased by that but you get me. How the heck is she going to be 8?!?!

Oh that really stinks. Wish I could share some of mine :(.

  • Can’t wait to read all about your summer bucket list! ๐Ÿ™‚

  • Congrats on completing your spring list! Such an achiever. Your garden looks beautiful!

    • Thank you, thank you! Have a great Monday friend.

  • oooOoo, I love seeing other people’s gardens!!!!! I like the container boxes!

    • Thank you! I do too. It is really fun to see how people set things up.

  • Meghan Flinn

I’d choose ice cream for my birthday too! And I’m so jealous of your garden. Mine was an epic fail this year!

    • Awwww :(. Mine was that way last year, it really sucked.

  • the garden is looking awesome! i def need to step up by game and make one myself too! Saying hi from the link up ๐Ÿ™‚ Hope you’ll stop by and see my favorites too! happy friday friend!

    • You totally should start a garden there is just something so rewarding about them. Have a great Monday Caitlin!

  • Caitlin

Ah your garden looks amazing!! I have a brown thumb and unfortunately everything I’ve ever planted ends up dead. It’s so sad =0( Stopping by from the link up. Hope you can hop by my blog as well. Have a great weekend!

    • Haha! I am usually that way too but I do pretty good with food plants. Happy Monday!

  • I am super impressed with your garden. I would love to do that one day, but I know me, and after a couple of weeks, it would be “too hot” to go outside and water and I would be headed to Trader Joe’s. Glad you guys had a good week at VBS. There is something about VBS that sucks the life out of adults. I hope you have a relaxing weekend.

    • Haha! I bet the heat you have to deal with must be brutal… you could always set up a sprinkler to do the watering for you ;). I have been guilty of that myself.

      SO true. VBS is exhausting.

  • VBS is always good for the kids and they look like they had a lot of fun. I do not have a green thumb, but next year I plan to have a small garden. Plant some peppers, tomatoes, and cucumbers. We’ll see how it goes. Your garden looks great! ~Lowanda

    • I don’t have a green thumb either but for some reason I do okay with food. Maybe you’ll do better than you think :).

  • chall1018

Mindcraft <<< thatโ€™s awesome! I love that theme. Our VBS this year is a sports camp. Iโ€™m curious to see how they have it planned. Whoa โ€“ way to go on crushing that spring bucketlist. You guys are champs. I canโ€™t wait to see your summer list. Your garden looks so lush and pretty! Happy weekend sweet friend.

    • It was seriously just amazing. They do an unbelievable job. Hope you have a great Monday friend!

  • Henry would have ADORED that VBS. So, so cool! Your garden looks fabulous!! Our little tomatoes are starting to grow!

    • Wasn’t the theme awesome?! The work they put into it is AMAZING. It was super cool to be a part of. Wahoo! I found a few tiny green ones too!

  • I can’t believe how gorgeous your garden is. Nicely done. You’ll have to take some photos when the harvest arrives.

  • YAY for knocking off that last time on your Spring bucket list! I’m excited to see what you have on your summer bucket list! You always give me a few ideas of things I never thought of so I’m excited to see what you have planned!

    • Hehe. No pressure now ;). I ended up putting 23 things on our list! It will be up tomorrow!

  • Baby Fox gets to go to VBS for the first time this year, he’s not so sure about it, but I know he is going to have a blast! The minecraft theme is so fun! Although I have no idea how to play it or what the ulitmate goal is. Can’t wait to see what you have in store for summer goals…perhaps bring the girls out to Disneyland and visiting me ๐Ÿ™‚

    • Oh that would be SO much fun… I wish.

We haven’t got into Minecraft either but I am thinking downloading it may be one of Marissa’s treats for doing book reports for me :). I bet he has SO much fun.

  • Desiree @ Macke Monologues

VBS was one of my favorite summer activities growing up! So awesome to see your girls enjoying it so much, too!
HOLY GARDEN! You have such a green thumb. Teach me your ways!!!
Can’t wait to see your ice cream party. Julia has an August birthday and I’m still on the hunt for the perfect ideas for it!

    • Haha! I can only grow food so I am not so sure how green my thumb actually is :P. I bet you will find something perfect. I can’t believe she is almost a year!

  • VBS is always so much work – it’s so impressive that your church even writes their own curriculum! That’s so smart, at least here in the Bible Belt it seems like every church does the same VBS all over town. Your garden is amazing! How fun to have so many goodies right there in your yard. Hope you had a great weekend!

Whitney @ Come Home For Comfort

    • YES! They do an absolutely amazing job and it really shows. It was so fun to be a part of. Happy Monday Whitney!

  • Whitney Jordan

Your garden looks amazing!! Way to go ๐Ÿ™‚ I’ll add that to the list of things I need you to teach me… gardening, canning, chalk arting and regularly exercising.

    • Lol. Hey I am making my own list over here too :). Have a good Monday friend.

  • That garden is looking great!!! I canny wait for ours to take off. The girls looked like they had fun at VBS. What a great theme!!

    • I didn’t know you have a garden! So fun :). The theme was PERFECT for the kids.

      • Our garden is pretty small, but we love it! The chimpmunks are starting to get to it though……

  • Ashley

You know I love garden updates!!! Mine is pretty lackluster so far this year but it’s starting to pick up.

How cool that the church does their own VBS curriculum

    • :), I felt that way about mine for a while and now it seems to be bigger everyday. You’ll get there soon!
