Friday Highlights 2016, V18

Hello Friday!

The week I was looking forward to more than anything, the first week of our summer break, was not everything I had hoped and planned for. Cold weather Monday and two little girls whose friendship is going through a bit of an argumentative patch has definitely gave this mama’s heart a reality check and made me question where I find my joy. There were lots of times of repentance for all and lots of stuff we’re still working on this week.

We are not perfect, my girls aren’t angels, I am not a mother who does it all right and when I do, do things right it is only by the grace of God. Sometimes I feel like I need to say that in a world where we always try to put our best face forward. What if we all took a minute to be completely real more often and not in a way that makes us seem cool for doing so either? Just something to think on…

Now onto this weeks Friday highlights!

Recently I was invited to try out Inkdot. I happily picked out a few things including some Instagram Prints. When they arrived These little 5.5 squares of happiness did not disappoint!

The quality was amazing and seeing some of my favorite Instagram memories printed up was so sweet. I will definitely be ordering more of these in the future.

{Awana 2016}

On Wednesday Marissa graduated from Sparks at her Awana club! She started doing Awana in the first grade and immediately fell in love with it.

Friday Marissa
Since being in Awana I have seen some pretty amazing changes in her knowledge of Gods word and her boldness as well. After picking her up from club last week she shyly told me that she said the prayer at the opening of Awana that night. This means she prayed in front of HUNDREDS of kids! A girl who used to be scared to pray in her room with just me!!! I was floored.

Friday girls
Next year she moves on to Truth and Training class at Awana but guess who gets to be a Sparky?!

{Happy Mothers Day}

To all the moms reading this, I want to wish you a very Happy Mothers Day!

  • Cat @

I always appreciate your honesty! My boys seem to be having a hard time getting along and I sometimes wonder how I’m doing with that. But in spite of the challenges it sounds like you all had a good week. Love hearing about Marissa’s love for Awana. I’ve been thinking about it for my 5 year old.

    • It is a roller coaster ride, that is for sure! Praying for a good week for both of us!

DEFINITELY look into Awana more. We love it so much.

  • Jessica

My littles are both so young, but yesterday if I was holding or giving attention to one the other was over fussing and vice versa and if I held both then they were pushing eachother to go away. Seriously?? Congrats to Marissa!! What a special girl. I’m definitely gong to try the hummus. Can’t wait. Have a very happy Mother’s Day sweet momma!! All the big hugs to you.

    • I remember those days like it was yesterday. It’s the same song now, just with a different tune friend. Some days things go so well, other times it’s just the worst. But we always get through the rough patches a little stronger.

I hope your day yesterday was fantastic!

  • Amy Smith

Happy Mother’s Day! Congrats Marissa! Enjoy your weekend!

  • Happy Mother’s Day!!! And we all have those weeks!! Hang in there.

    • Thank you so much friend. I hope you had a great brunch and an excellent day today!

  • Yay- my Inkdot stuff should be arriving this week….super exciting to see how it turns out!

    • It is going to be amazing. Seriously, so nice! Happy Mothers Day weekend Deena!

  • I’ll have to check out Inkdot! Oh goodness our boys have moments of pure sweetness and then just pure meanness! It is exhausting at times! I hope you all have a good weekend!

    • It’s a roller coaster ride, right? I hope you are having a great Mothers Day!

  • Love those little Instagram prints! I will have to check out Inkdot!
Happy Mother’s Day, my sweet friend!

    • Definitely do. I know you love taking pictures and this is such a great way of preserving those memories. My goal now is to COVER my fridge with them :D! Thank you, you too!

  • I was invited to try inkdot too, but I chose to order one big photo rather than a bunch of prints. We shall see how it looks – I’m sure it will be great!

  • Inkdot sounds awesome! Oh and that humus, YUM-YUM! Humus is a favorite around here always.

    • You have to try the Hummus Made Easy friend, I know you’d love it. Inkdot was really awesome. I ended up putting magnets on the photos and hanging them on my fridge. I need to get some more!

  • Meghan Flinn

Oh friend, I know we all share the best parts of our lives, but please know we all have those days/weeks! Days where I have no energy and say yes to way too many tv shows. Where I easily get frustrated at Noah and am not the best version of myself. The rain this week did not help. Fresh air and being outside is something we need over here ASAP!

    • Thank YOU for being real right back at me. Big hugs friend and praying that you get some sunshine pronto. Cold weather and rainy days help NOTHING. Have a great weekend!

  • I love IG prints! Can they invite me to try them?! hahah Thanks for always being real with us about life! Happy Mother’s Day!

    • If I hear back from the guy who emailed me I will pass your name along if given a chance :). It was the most random email ever and Stephanie got it on the same exact day.

I am always for keeping things real. You too friend, I hope your day is great.

  • Desiree @ Macke Monologues

Our real life has been rocky the past few days. A certain 4-year old has been more defiant than I like to admit, a bout of croup (again) has caused some sleepless nights, and there’s a 9 month old who insists on waking every 3-4 hours at night to eat. Life is kind of messy, but it’s the only mess we get! 🙂
In other news. Inkdot looks awesome! I have so many pictures from IG that I’d love to print out.

    • Oh goodness. The messes change and morph through the years but the struggle stays real. I hope you have found some needed relief this weekend friend.

Inkdot is awesome, you would LOVE it.

  • Happy Mother’s Day! Aww…AWANA! I went all the way through that program from Cubbies to my Citation in 12th grade. It’s such a good program for helping kiddos “hide God’s word in their hearts!” LOVE it! Great job on the hummus. Gonna try this for sure!!

    • That is SO awesome friend. I have dreams of my girls getting their citation award sometimes. That would just be the coolest. But it’s totally up the them if they want to go for that. The hummus is fantastic and cheaper than buying the pre-made stuff. Definitely check it out!

Oh sweet friend! I’m sorry the first week of summer vacation didn’t go as planned. I can relate. Mason and his little buddy (that I keep every day after school) are doing nothing but fighting and arguing lately. We are counting down the days until summer vacation and them taking a break from each other. (it’s so needed) It has brought out the worst in Mason and I find myself growing tired of getting on to him. And I’ve yelled a little too much lately. So thankful for God’s amazing and sweet grace. And for a little boy that loves me despite how loud my voice may get.

Inkdot looks awesome. I am a sucker for square prints!

And now I am crying. There is something about a person stepping out in faith that makes me so weepy. And Marissa leading the prayer? Tears are flowing, mama! That’s real tangible proof that God is working in her life. Love it. Question – where does she do Awana? Is it through a church? I wonder if there is something around here like that for Mason. He would love it. He’s so eager to learn about Jesus, God and the Bible. Love the sweet picture of your girls!

Hope you have the best Mother’s Day weekend, lady!

    • I wondered how that all worked out. You are so close not friend, you can do this and you are so right about grace. Kids are such a fantastic picture of grace.

It was just awesome having her tell me that. I almost couldn’t believe it, it is so unlike her. I’m praying she is a meek girl that is bold in the name of Jesus.

Awana is done world wide! I would almost guarantee someone around you does it. It is the Baptist version of Wednesday night church. I believe most churches that do Awana are Baptist churches there are 3 or 4 that do it in our town, usually larger churches. We don’t consider ourselves baptist (I honestly don’t know what I technically would brand myself, baha ha), but I don’t have a problem with letting her go to Awana either.

  • I can tell you that some weeks, I wonder what in the Hell is happening? Its like everything that can go wrong will. I can’t do those weeks too often or I lose my mind.

But hey, you have the whole summer ahead of you. You are going to have a blast, make memories and love those girls so hard.

    • Amen, amen. I may be crazy or naively optimistic, but I think next week will go much better. Thanks friend.

  • Happy Mother’s Day, Beth! I’m glad you got to have a fun party with the ladies. Invite me next time to eat your food 😉

    • Haha! It actually wasn’t a girl party… but the girls are prettier so I used their photos. The guys were just hanging out in the garage drinking beer. We ended up inviting a weir mix of friends that didn’t all know each other but common threads were found and it was a blast.

  • #Reallife is hard. It sucks sometimes. I hope this weekend is a perfect Mother’s Day for you!! And that’s so awesome that M prayed in front of everyone! I don’ think I could do that!

    • I know, right?! I hope you are having a great Mothers Day too.
