My Life’s Mix Tape, Tuesday Talk V12

Today’s post should be a fun one. I am linking up with Andrea at Momfessionals for Show & Tell Tuesday: ‘My Life’s Mix Tape’.

I probably should have started thinking about this post a month ago instead of a couple days before I shared it. But procrastination and life won out this time. Today I want to share a few songs with you that I have loved through the years. From songs I used to sing as a kid to songs that have spoke straight to my heart.
It is bound to be random.

Sharing the #mixtape of my life on todays #TuesdayTalk #random Click To Tweet

If my life had a soundtrack, this would be it.

If my life had a soundtrack here are a few songs that might make the cut.

I was raised in Kansas in a little cow-town called Baxter Springs.
So it’s no surprise that my music roots were pure country.

I loved this song and would sing it over and over along with my cassette tape in my room.
Go ahead and laugh, I would.

Next up is the one and only boy band I have ever liked.

I have zero recollection of why this band was so cool in my 8 year old mind. But I still have a New Kids On The Block dress that would probably fit Marissa laying around as evidence of my love for this band.

The years went on and the next song I remember loving came in the mid 90’s

As a “confused and conflicted” teenager this song felt so appropriate on more than one occasion.

A few years later I fell in love with Jesus and a band called Waterdeep.

I became a bit of a groupie for years and years going to any shows that I could.
The words of their songs spoke of truth in such a bold way, I couldn’t get enough of them. They were pretty much the only band I listened to for years.

In my mid 20’s when my grandma passed away I went through a bit of an emotional patch.

Going back to my roots stirred up some emotions for me and this song always makes my eyes water.

Then in 2011 after the tornado it felt like all hope was lost.

But we still had joy. No song summed up exactly how I felt quite like this one.

Over the next year we saw that we were never once alone through the trials we endured rebuilding our life.

This song spoke everything we felt and more.

Since the closing of our church one year ago there has been one album that has spoke to the very core of who I am and where our life is, giving me life and hope when all felt loss

Words and music are powerful friends.
That is something that I started learning when I was a 15 year old girl who fell in love with a band.

But if I had to sum it all up with one song, I’d choose this one.

What would your life’s soundtrack look like?

My Favorite Pinterest Pins: Tuesday Talk V7 & Show & Tell Tuesday

Happy Tuesday Friends!

I still vividly remember having a conversation about Pinterest with my friend Sarah just like it was yesterday. It was 2011 and I started describing the idea of this site with boards to collect all your your links. We were both left underwhelmed and not very excited about the site.

Oh how just a little bit of time changed everything.

Just about a year later Pinterest had became the new Google.

I don’t write as much down.

I rarely print recipes

Craft time is always more exciting

I always have a project to work on

Thank you Pinterest!

I have had my fair share of failures and success stories. But being the sunny, optimistic person that I am, today we will focus on the positive as I share some of my all time favorite Pinterest pins!

I also feel the need to plug my Pinterest page and say if you aren’t following me along you can fix that by going HERE

How To Win My Heart: Tuesday Talk V5

I am pretty excited about todays post. It is fun, light hearted and hopefully a way for you to get to know me a little bit better. Today I am linking up with Andrea from Momfessionals for Show & Tell Tuesday. This weeks topic is all about how you can win my heart.

If you wanted to win my heart here are a few ways that guarantee you will find success.

(In random order)

#1 Take me to try on high heels. I rarely ever buy a pair, but I love nothing more than trying on a pair of 5″ strappy stilettos and walking around the shoe department. Because who doesn’t want to be 6’3″?! #ReasonsIRarelyWearHeels
#2 Crack a Seinfeld joke. Don’t worry if nobody else gets it, I most likely will
#3 Tell me how sweet, cute, smart or well behaved my girls are. What mom doesn’t love that!
#4 Give me a hug. Not like a side hug like a real hug. I’m a hugger, I haven’t always been but after the tornado happened things just changed.
#5 Don’t be afraid to call me out when you see me stumbling. I initially might not respond so well, but with time I’ll know that you really care enough to say something. Friends like that are so few and far between.

#6 Text me to just say hi. Some of my favorite texts I get are from my best gal pals saying good morning, especially the ones that come on an oh so dreaded Monday.
#7 Know the key foods to my heart: dark chocolate, salted caramel, tres leches, avocado, spinach dip, mexican food & almost any kind of breakfast pastry.
#8 Ask me to workout with you. Having just read the above list of foods that I love you, now know why I have to workout! A run or a session at the gym is always a good thing in my books.
#9 Sit on my patio with me talking about everything and nothing all at once until late in the night. So many good conversations have happened on that patio.
#10 Challenge me to be a better version of myself.
So there you have it, feel free to “woo” me now ;).
How can your heart be won?

Tuesday Talk 2016 V3, Show & Tell Tuesday Momfessions

In the almost two years I have been blogging I am pretty sure I have never dedicated an entire post to confessions. I mean sure we all know that I can’t seem to just walk away from the cookies and there is that one time I admitted that I can’t watch Santa Paws without crying, multiple times, but I have never just aired out all the dirty laundry, until today.

Todays post is dedicated to fessing up to all the little things I do as a mom.
I am pretty sure I won’t be winning any mom of the year awards after this.

* Before the girls could read I would always shorten a long wordy story just to get it over with faster.

* I hide in the closet or around corners all the time to eat snack without sharing or sneak a piece of candy, still! If they do catch me with what appears to be a full mouth and they ask what I’m eating I sometimes lie or give a half truth.

* When the girls walk in our bedroom on a Saturday morning I almost always pretend like I am asleep until it becomes absolutely necessary for me to get up, AKA they are arguing about something.

* I was a leash parent. Marissa ran around with a monkey on her back for YEARS and I have absolutely no apologies or regrets about doing that. #safetyfirst

* I never let my kids win games. Well I say never but really I mean 9 times out of 10. I’m not sure if it’s tough love or I really am so competitive that I can’t loose a game of Candy Land to a 4 year old.

* Sometimes I throw out some of the girls art. (Can a person really keep every single piece?! I think not!) If I happen to get caught in the act I claim it to be in error and hang the picture back on the fridge with a big “smile”.

* When playing house with the girls I usually pretend my character is sick just so I can lay down. I get to lay there and they love taking care of me. It’s a win, win. One time after a particularly long night I actually fell asleep. #oops

* I would tell my kids that pretty much anything tastes like candy or another food they already love if I think it would get them to try it. Example: Emily try the broccoli, it tastes just like a cookie. She has yet to be this gullible.

* Sometimes I scare my kids to the point of tears because I think it is really funny. All was well until they learned how to play back. I think I nearly peed my pants when Marissa recently hid in the floorboard of my car.

And I saved the best, or perhaps the worst for last.

* One time when I got pulled over by a cop I told Marissa to start crying in a panic. Yup, I am totally that lady. The one who thinks the cop will take pity on her because her kid is flipping out. She never cried and I still ended up walking away ticket free. I’ve spent the last 4.5 years making sure she knows that cops are our friends to try and right my wrong. It worked, I think.

DIY Headband Holder: Tuesday Talk 2016 V2

Hello my name is Beth and I love organization.

So you can imagine the horror, eye rolls, sighs and eye twitches that this drawer in my girls’ bathroom was causing me. Seriously, sometimes I couldn’t even get the drawer to open.

What started off as a clever idea to put the headbands in the basket morphed into a wicked tangled web of chaos. Because 8 pink headbands isn’t enough, obviously. My girls wear A LOT of headbands.

*Insert girl mom tip: The best place to buy headbands is Childrens Place. I can often pick them up on clearance for .80-2.00 and I get free shipping too!

There had to be a way to turn this disaster into something pretty and organized.

And it turns out there is.

The best part is I crafted this simple headband holder in about 20 minutes out of things I already had laying around the house (after raiding my craft cabinet).

To make your own here is what you need!

Pedestal, I used a candle stick holder

Oatmeal container

Rope or ribbon

Burlap to cover

Plenty of hot glue

Brown construction paper

The first thing I did was cover the lid. To do this I traced a circle slightly larger than my lid, and glued it on securing the edges with more glue. I already had plans to go around the edge with the rope so I didn’t have to be too careful.

Next I went to cover the container. However, I discovered the burlap was a bit sheer and I could still see the oatmeal design. So before covering I wrapped the container with brown construction paper.
Now I was ready! I cut the seam as straight as I could and glued it on calling the seam area the back of my project.
The top excess I shoved in the container and the lid fit snugly and securely on.
To finish the bottom I cut slits and glued them down individually as neatly and tightly as I could.

I added a piece of cardboard to the bottom for added stability and glued the pedestal on.
I found it to be a bit wobblier than I wanted so I wend around the base with the hot glue gun a couple of times trying to create more stability and security. It worked perfectly!
I added some more rope around the bottom and a piece of mustard burlap for decoration.
I later realized that doing this was kind of pointless since you can’t really see it but hey, I already had it lying around.
 My project was complete.
The finished project holds about 14 -15 headbands.
I definitely think I will be making another one of these in the next year or two.
I also love that the headbands are neatly displayed and easy to find.
No more rummaging through the drawers looking for a certain one.
Projects like this make the organizer in me smile and breathe a huge sigh of relief.
Have you organized anything lately?
