Today is the 12th edition of one of my favorite monthly linkups, The Kids (or in my case girls) Behind the Blog. It’s hard to believe it has been a full year, but it has. Over the past 12 months I have giggled, nodded, gasped, and cried happy tears from laughing so hard over the things our kids have said.
Laughter is good medicine friends. I hope you’ll continue linking up with us in 2017, or maybe consider joining us for the very first time. You can find all of our 2017 dates and next months questions at the bottom of this post.
I have been so excited for this months interview and the question options. So excited that I decided to ask the girls all 10 questions! I just couldn’t help myself. I needed to know their thoughts on Santa’s sleigh, reindeer, and all things Christmas.
I decided to try to snap a few photos of the girls by a tree and it felt like I forgot how to take good tree photos (not that I ever had it figured out). Do I use my fancy flash, do I not use a flash at all, If I turn my ISO way down they tend to be blurry, If not, they are grainy. Where should the source of light be? I really could use an in home lesson from a pro to help me out. (any takers?). So, I picked the best of the grainy & blurry to share with you. Because when one sister decides she wants to give the other sister an unwelcome kiss, things get a little silly.
1.) Which reindeer is your favorite?
Marissa // Rudolph! Because he is the most famous one, has a glowing nose, and I don’t know anything about any of the others. Emily // Rudolph! Because he has a glowing nose.
3.) What would you do if you caught Santa at your house?
Marissa // I would take a video of him and talk to him. Emily // I would ask him what I got for Christmas.
4.) What if Santa got stuck in your chimney?
Marissa // I would help him get out and not tell anyone. Emily // I would tell my daddy and we would go help him.
5.) Do you want it to snow on Christmas? Why or Why not?
Marissa // YES! Because we never had any snow last year and I really want to go sledding. Emily // Yes, because then we could go play in it and have hot chocolate.
6.) Have you been naughty or nice this year? Why?
Marissa // Nice! Because I have tried to be nice. Emily // I can not answer that question… uhhh! Really, I don’t know what to say. Seriously, I don’t know which one to choose. I asked her what she would say if Santa Claus asked her and she said… NICE! Because I play with my sister even when she is mean to me. Oh my word y’all, I was crying from laughing by the end of this.
7.) If Santa asked you to fly in his sleigh with him would you do it?
Marissa // Yes, but only if he would bring me back home at the end. Emily // YES!
8.) What is your favorite Christmas movie?
Marissa // I can’t choose…(intense thinking) Polar Express! Emily // Santa Paws
9.) If you could change the color of Rudolph’s nose what color would you make it?
Marissa // I wouldn’t want to change it. Emily // Rainbow colored.
10.) Sing me one Christmas Carol
For this question I thought a video would be more fun. I also wanted it to be spontaneous so I warned Marissa with 10 seconds to start singing. Naturally, like most of my plans, it backfired. Marissa warned Emily before she made her way to me. Emily then went into a complete panic over what to sing. It was probably the only time I have ever had trouble getting that girl to sing her whole entire life. We worked it out though.
Today is another round of The Kids Behind The Blog. A link up that focuses on the kids who made us mama’s and probably the reason we started our blogs in the first place. I love writing and reading these posts, they always leave me laughing.
One of my favorite parts about our interviews every month is having a post where all the focus is on the girls. After all, they are the entire reason I started this blog in the first place. The past couple of months I have been snapping photos to add to my post on our interview day. This month interview day just happened to coincide with mustache night at Awana. When they requested that their mustaches be a part of our photo shoot, I couldn’t say no.
And after seeing the results I am SO happy I went along with their shenanigans. I love that these photos capture my silly girls perfectly. What a great reminder to be a mom that says yes more often.
This months questions are about all things Halloween.
Let’s take a look.
What do you want to be for Halloween?
Marissa// A vet!
Emily// Tinkerbell Minnie Mouse!
Do you like handing out candy or collecting it?
Marissa// Collecting it! *happy dance*
Emily// I want people to give candy to ME!
What should mommy and daddy be for Halloween?
Marissa// I think mommy should be a fairy princess and daddy should be a police officer. (In the video I answer with a very sarcastic “okay?!” I am still laughing at my response. It kind of gives of the yeah right like that would ever happen vibe)
Emily// Uh I think daddy should be a dragon and you should be a…. (long pause while she is distracted by a car driving by)… a mom. I know you, can be a girl dragon. Daddy can be Toothless and you can be Storm Fly!
Do you like to make a scary or happy face Jack-o-lanterns?
What is the best part of Halloween? What’s the worst?
Marissa// Best: Getting candy. Worst: Getting scared. (She goes on to tell a story about a doorbell that had a spider that scared her one year. I tell her how awesome that was and she strongly disagrees with me)
Emily// Best: Getting candy with our friends. Worst: Having to walk a lot!
For all the extra peppiness, wiggling, sarcasm, and drama be sure to check out this months videos.
The arrival of a new month means another interview with my favorite girls. This month I was super organized and we took some photos and shot our interview videos on the same day. That never happens and it is highly unlikely that it will ever happen again. Plus, I think I score some bonus points on that brick wall back drop. I need to remember this photo spot for the future.
I know I say it every single month, but I adore this link-up and I really hope you do too. It is such a fun way to document the girls just the way they are and it is my absolute favorite day to read blog posts. Your kids are so funny (yes, you) and I hope that you will keep linking up what they have to say. The sweet, the uncooperative, and the things that make you say WHAT?!
Here is our September interview…
What is your favorite sport? Why? Marissa // Basket Ball, it’s the only sport we play.
*I prompted her on running and she said she likes it a lot too.
Emily // Uh Basket Ball? I like the part where daddy picks me up so I can make points.
If someone gave you a million dollars what would you buy? Marissa // A bunch of Legos!
Emily // The Grand Hotel (a Lego set), The Emma house (another Lego set). She would pretty much just buy Legos.
Tell me 3 things that kids do better than mommies and daddies. Marissa // Getting in/on swing sets, swinging, and hiding.
Emily // being silly, being wilder, and being a better player.
What is your favorite thing to do in the fall? Marissa // Jump in leaves.
Emily // I like playing with sissy and going trick or treating.
Share with me 3 things you like about yourself. Marissa // I like that I have straight hair. I like that I don’t have glasses. *small panic with a long pause* I like my dimples!
Emily // I like my french fry shirt (her clothes). I like my Legos. I like that I have glasses.
Next months questions are…

What should mommy and daddy be for Halloween? Do you like to make a scary or happy faces Jack-o-lantern? What is the best part of Halloween? What’s the worst?
I know, I know, I’m a few days early. But special plans this week meant posting early. The link-up will open first thing Wednesday morning and you will be able to add your posts then. Just think of my early post as a friendly reminder!
This months questions come with a “summers over, let’s get back to school” theme. A theme that seems oh so perfect since we start our home school year tomorrow!
Oh how I miss you already summer break!
1. What was your favorite thing you did over the summer? Marissa // Go to the pool?!
Emily // Going to the pool.
2. What’s your favorite thing to learn about at school? Marissa // Science
Emily // I like coloring, crafts and art things.
3. Who is your best friend from school? Marissa // *weird look* Emily *She goes onto explain that I am her friend too, but I don’ think I made the cut as her best friend.*
Emily // Huh?! *weird look* Uh, sissy.
4. What do you want to be when you grow up? Marissa // A vet
*This one came as a bit of a shocker. Every time I have asked her this question she has always replied a mommy. I’m not gonna lie, it made me a little sad. But I think I recovered well.*
Emily // A mom
5. What is your least favorite thing about school? Marissa // MATH!
Emily // I don’t like to write things down, letters.
So this months shocker was Marissa’s career path change. Now if I can figure out how to take writing out of Emily’s school work we will be all good :/. Oh those girls. I just love them so much.
