Ten on the Tenth, June 2017

Hello Monday, hello summer!

After Memorial Day craziness, VBS week, and struggling to find a routine, it feels like the real deal now. Summer is really here. We are almost mid June and the high today is 90 some odd degrees 😎 . I am having all the happy summer feelings and I just can’t soak enough of it in.

This weekend was equally fantastic. We woke up on Saturday morning with nothing planned but ended up having what I would call the perfect summer Saturday. And since it was the 10th day of the month, I did 10 Insta-stories just so I could share all the details with you

Christmas Vacation Life, 2016

Just like the weeks that lead up to the holidays, the holidays them self pass by so quickly. Russ has been home with us for an entire week now and we have been loving our time together. I am dreading the very thought of him heading back to work come Tuesday… so let’s not talk about that m’kay.

Things around here have been a little different too. Without much school, I haven’t sat at my desk for hours on end. It has been such a nice and refreshing change of pace for everyone. Today I planned to share our Christmas recap but instead I decided to share a bunch of photos from life lately, including our Christmas.

December 23rd was spent being lazy, celebrating Christmas with my parents, and driving around town working on our Christmas light scavenger hunts. Marissa would have gladly kept looking until she found EVERY single thing. However the rest of us gave up a lot sooner.

Our Thanksgiving in Numbers

By now I know we are all knee-deep in Christmas, but I have yet to recap our Thanksgiving #fail! Good thing my running motto around here seems to be better late than never. I’d hate to miss out on documenting a holiday spent with family. To recap this Thanksgiving I decided to think outside of the box and do things a little differently than I have in the past. I decided to document our Thanksgiving according to numbers.

Halloween 2016

new-here-here-are-a-few-of-our-favorite-posts

Halloween 2016 did not disappoint. Marissa opted to dress up as her current “what I want to be when I grow up” and Emily was Minnie Mouse… for the 4th year in a row. Spoiler alert: She’s already talking about what kind of Minnie Mouse she is going to be next year.

Our Halloween was spent doing school work, painting pumpkins, bobbing for apples, and trick-or-treating in Russ’ parents neighborhood. They seriously have the best neighborhood ever to trick-or-treat in. It’s two streets and by the time we finish we have overflowing buckets of goodies, every year. Minimal walking, lots of chocolate. It doesn’t get any better than that!

Enough of my rambling though. I know what you really want to see is the photos and goodness did I take a lot. #sorrynotsorry.

Orange Beach 2016: Fort Morgan

Are y’all sick and tired of hearing about our vacation yet?
I sure hope not.

Day Four

It started just like every other morning, on the beach. We didn’t linger too long that day. We had plans to leave the condo earlier than normal and drive about 40 minutes to Fort Morgan.

img_3282I’m not sure why, but I can totally geek out over history. I think visiting Fort Morgan was my favorite thing that we did on our vacation. All I could think about was how much I wished walls could talk. Fort Morgan dates back to the early 1800’s and was used off and on by the military until 1947. There are Nearly 150 years of stories inside those walls.

img_3311 img_3283 img_3299
The walls and the bricks that made those walls were made by slaves. It was such a sad and almost haunting place to be, but it was beautiful too.

img_3263 img_3277 img_3381
We could have stayed there for hours and I guess we kind of did. We even had a picnic lunch within the very walls of the fort itself. I love that it was completely open to the public. As long as a door wasn’t locked, we were free to explore as much as we wanted.

The staircases were ENORMOUS, I was trying to imagine running up and down them by the light of torches in the middle of the night. Falling seemed inevitable. Even with railing each step was a feat to go down.

I sat my camera on the ledge of a wall and we posed for a photo. Genius I know but it was totally safe, trust me.

It is definitely one of the coolest places I have been too. I am so happy that we decided to make it a part of our trip. Russ was SO happy too. It’s nice to have someone who shares my interest in random historical stuff.

After wandering around for about 4 hours we headed back to the condo, grabbed our suits, and hit up the beach again. I decided to leave the camera home this time so I could just enjoy vacation.

After a swim and showers we went to dinner at Moe’s. It was a total hole in the wall but they easily had the best pulled pork ever. In fact we loved it SO much that we ate there twice on our trip. After dinner we drove down to Gulf Shores and watched the sunset on the beach. It was another perfect ending to another perfect day.

By this point in our trip I was completely convinced that beach life is the best life.

Orange Beach 2016: Dolphin Cruise

On Monday I shared part one of our vacation to Orange Beach. With 34 photos included in it, it was a pretty lengthy post. I was so surprised when y’all read it regardless and left the sweetest comments. Thank you so much. I honestly thought nobody would want to see our vacation recaps, but the memories are too special not to blog about. I feel much better about posting these now and I hope that you aren’t too sick of them by the end. Let’s start off where I stopped.

Day Three

img_2804img_28053-1
Day 3 started just like every other morning, taking a sunrise stroll on the beach with Marissa. We stayed on the beach from about 6:00 until about 7:30 every day. After our walks or sitting and staring at the ocean we would head back to the condo for breakfast. This particular day we had orange rolls.

The rest of the morning/ afternoon was spent splashing and playing in the waves before having a late lunch.

Our afternoon highlight was taking a dolphin cruise. Totally a touristy thing to do but we were tourists and we didn’t want to miss a thing! Besides thanks to Whistle, Click, and the Wild Kratts my girls were already completely obsessed.

img_2851 img_2855 img_2877
There were SO many dolphin cruises to choose from it was almost overwhelming. But in the end I feel confident that we chose the very best one. Our captain and his deck hand were so knowledgeable and friendly. It was also a smaller boat than some which resulted in lots of one on one attention.

img_3049img_2947
You always kind of wonder how these things work and if you will actually see dolphins. We saw SO many dolphins! It was awesome and one of our favorite parts of the whole trip.

img_3097 img_3101-copy 3-5 3-6
We also saw a blue crab that Emily was brave enough to pet. I captured a gem of a photo of Marissa when she was feeling totally over the heat waiting on the boat to take off. Then a random stranger offered to take a family photo for us.

When the dolphin watching adventures were over it was time for the fun.  After all, it was the Dolphin Fun Cruise.

3-8 3-7
The girls had a blast getting in a water fight with the captain and any other willing soul. I however opted to stand behind this door. The girls still thought it was fun to spray at me.

After the cruise we headed back to the condo for some relaxation and dinner.

img_3135-copy 3-9 img_3149-copy 3-10 img_3153
Around sunset we decided to go to a nearby park. Just like everything else, the park was beautiful. They ran and explored begging us to stay all night. We finally headed home to tuck the girls into bed and once again talk until the late hours of night on the balcony.

I’d love to squeeze another day into this post, but since I took record-setting amounts of photos on days 3 & 4 they each earned their own day. Next time I’ll share my photos from Fort Morgan, then I’ll do one more post to quickly wrap up the rest of our trip.
