Kids Summer Reading Club, June 2017

We’re back again for another month of the Kids Summer Reading Club. If there is one thing Marissa has done this summer, it’s read. She’s read well over 50 books and completed all 4 levels of our libraries summer reading program, in less than 4 weeks, making her a “super reader”. Her love for books seems to always be growing and sometimes it is challenging to find her new things to read. She recently read the entire Never Girl series and loved it. She even carries a book inside her purse almost everywhere she goes. I joked with a friend that she is just like Rory Gilmore, and she doesn’t even know it. If her love of reading evolves to her picking up Tolstoy, I’ll know for sure.

We are feeling abundantly proud of our book work over here.

Kids Summer Reading Club, May 2017

When some of my favorite blogging friends announced a Kids Summer Reading Club, I knew we needed to join the fun. Marissa always has been my little book-worm. Girlfriend LOVES to read, just like I did when I was her age. It isn’t abnormal for her to walk around with her nose stuck in a book or for me to catch her staying up WAY past her bedtime because “Mommy, it was just so good I couldn’t stop reading.”

This months book was The Baby-sitters Club, Kristy’s Great Idea. This book was two firsts for Marissa. #1 It was her first ever Babysitters Club book. #2 It was also her very first graphic novel. Both firsts seemed to be a hit, she loved it. It only took her one afternoon/ evening to read it and she liked it so much she decided to read it again. I definitely see us picking up some more of these on our next trip to the library!

Summer Reading Fun

School may be officially over but that doesn’t mean the learning stops. At The Newman Family Independent Learning Center, (#lolololol) we believe that education is something that doesn’t end over summer break. Sure, it may seem like we live at the pool (because we kind of do) but I try to keep our morning activities full of hidden learning time. I love it when the girls are learning without even realizing it. Ever since my girls were itty-bitty I have been scheming up plans to continue educating them over summer break and today I want to share one of my favorites ways with you.
