Summer Reading Fun

School may be officially over but that doesn’t mean the learning stops. At The Newman Family Independent Learning Center, (#lolololol) we believe that education is something that doesn’t end over summer break. Sure, it may seem like we live at the pool (because we kind of do) but I try to keep our morning activities full of hidden learning time. I love it when the girls are learning without even realizing it. Ever since my girls were itty-bitty I have been scheming up plans to continue educating them over summer break and today I want to share one of my favorites ways with you.

Keeping It Clean

After only a week of being “on the market” I have definitely learned that keeping our home show ready is a lot of hard work. I used to be an amazing housekeeper. I would clean our home top to bottom at least once a week. Then we had a kid… then we had another kid… then we moved into a much bigger home… Whomp, whomp, whomp 😳 . My house keeping skills have definitely been on the decline for the past few years and I knew I had to do something to help fix that.

There are many common threads that unite moms. An endless love for our children, the ability to function off shockingly low amounts of sleep, and a dislike for packing lunches. I don’t think it matters if you home school, public school, or are planning a picnic adventure, packing lunches can be a lot of work. Over the years I have heard countless moms wish for an easier solution. Today I want to share how lunch time has been transformed in our home with simple tips, tricks, and ideas to help you find lunch freedom!

Grocery Store Scavenger Hunt {printables}

One of the highlights of this years summer bucket list was our grocery store scavenger hunt. The girls LOVED being able to call the shots on where to go while at the store and I have to admit, I had a pretty great time too. I didn’t think taking the girls to the grocery store could ever be fun, but I was proved completely incorrect.

The biggest problem we ran into was the major lack of printable options available. I think the odds are something like 1,000/1 For every 1,000 nature hunts, you might find one grocery. So with a wild idea and some encouragement from y’all, I got to work. Today I want to share with you not just one, but three different printables.

I tried to stick with main stream brands that I am hoping are available nationwide. I also tried to avoid putting tons of goodies on there that your kids will insist on putting in the cart too. I am hoping that this is just the beginning of a collection and that I will be making more in the near future. So far I have had ideas of a Holiday list, a couple lists for Aldi, and I bet I could even crank out an all things pumpkin list too.

If you have any ideas or special requests, let me know!
In the mean time I hope you love and enjoy these.

#Ad Back To Routine, Wrap Recipes & Weekly Planning

This is a sponsored post written by me on behalf of Tyson Foods, Inc. All opinions are entirely my own. This shop has been compensated by Collective Bias, Inc. and its advertiser. All opinions are mine alone. #ReimagineYourRoutine #CollectiveBias

Back to school means so much more than the beginning of a new school year. It means back to busy, back to schedules, and back to finding a routine. So long endless summer days, hello school year. It’s a season of change for everyone. A season I do my best to embrace. Today I want to share how I keep our weeks organized and two quick and delicious recipes that have made meal-time easier.

When it comes to getting back routine there is one important key for me, write everything down. If I don’t write things down, the odds of me remembering them are greatly reduced. The best way I have found to keep our family organized and on time is with a weekly schedule. Every Sunday I sit down, consult the husband, and begin to write in the events that make up our week. Important events, personal meetings, due dates, appointments, and even fun plans. Anything that we will do or need to do goes on our list.

If you’d like to grab your copy of my free weekly planner you can get your copy here.

Another thing I love to track on our weekly planner is our meals. I have been meal planning for years now and have learned through experience how important it is to be prepared. Prepared with ingredients and prepared for the busy nights that getting back to routine bring. On nights that I need a quick and easy meal I love to have recipes that I can turn to without sacrificing flavor and quality. I never feel guilty whenever I serve protein packed convenient solutions using TysonⓇ products.

On a recent trip to Wal-Mart I stocked up on Tyson® products. From convenient freezer stock up items to delicious and effortless breakfast, lunch, and dinner solutions, I now have the busy weeks that follow the back to school season covered.

Feeling prepared and inspired I went home to create two very easy and very different meal ideas. Both are protein packed and simple enough to be made for lunch, but hardy enough for dinner too.

Meat Trio Ranch Wrap

This simple wrap is was inspired by Hillshire Farm® Farm Classics® Lunchmeat. By adding a few special ingredients like avocado slices, fresh tomato and a flavorful dressing, like the sweet chili ranch I chose, you can effortlessly turn something traditional into something unique.

Tortilla wrap
Hillshire Farm® Farm Classics® Lunchmeat of your choice
I used Black Forest Ham and Oven Roasted Turkey Breast
2 slices of provolone
Chopped romaine lettuce
2-3 slices of cooked bacon (per wrap)
Sliced avocado
Sliced tomato
Ranch dressing of your choice
1. Lay out the wrap and add the Hillshire Farm® Farm Classics® Lunchmeat, cheese, and veggies. Top with your favorite variety of ranch dressing.
2. Roll up, slice in half and serve immediately.

BBQ Chicken Pineapple Crunch Wrap

A unique wrap packed full of texture and flavor. The combination of the BBQ sauce and the pineapple with the crunch of the romaine and tortilla strips make this meal an instant family favorite. This warm meal can be made in just about 10 minutes.

Tortilla wrap
Tyson® Grilled & Ready Chicken
BBQ sauce of your choice
Shredded mozzarella
Pineapple tidbits, drain and set juice aside
1-2 T reserved pineapple juice
Chopped romaine lettuce
Sliced green onions
Tortilla strips

1. Heat the desired amount of Tyson® Grilled & Ready Chicken in a covered skillet. Evenly coat with BBQ sauce. Add in 1-2 tablespoons of the reserved pineapple juice and cook on medium heat until warm 5-8 minutes, stirring often.
2. When the Tyson® Grilled & Ready Chicken is warm remove from heat and set aside.
3. Take a wrap shell and create a bed of chopped romaine, add the Tyson® Grilled & Ready Chicken, pineapple, cheese, green onions and tortilla strips.
4. Roll the wrap, slice in half and serve immediately.
Maybe this back to school thing won’t be so hard after all.

There is something so comforting about getting back to the basics and going back to nature. Nature is at the core of what kids and adults need. It is finding a place where you can explore, imagine, create and have fun. As a mom, I have watched my children thrive in these kinds of scenarios, and it brings me so much joy. Today I want to share a few of our favorite ways to make mealtime our playground and return back to the simple things.

Back To Nature (2)_edited
On one of my recent shopping trips to Target, I stumbled across Back to Nature Mac & Cheee. I was instantly excited that it had no artificial flavors, preservatives, synthetic colors and it is non-GMO. My girls were equally excited about the fun shapes and varieties of their favorite cheesy meal. I knew it was a winner for our family– a convenient product that both the moms and kids love! It doesn’t get much better than that!  So, I happily let the girls pick out a few boxes and we headed home.

Back-to-nature-boxThinking about getting back to nature left me feeling creatively inspired.

Inspired to unplug and get back to the simple things in life ourselves. So I used my noodle *pun intended* to create a simple back to nature bingo game to play with my girls. Something to encourage them to explore and enjoy nature. To observe and look for things big and small, alive and dead, pops of color and things that blend in.

There are so many ways to play with these bingo cards.

*Bingo style, first to get a row wins.

*Bingo blackout, fill in the whole card.

*Take photos of what you find.

*I spy played from a picnic table or blanket.

*If the weather is too bad to play outside you can still squeeze in some nature by looking for photos of things in magazines.

You can download your copies here.

b2nWe chose to play our bingo in an “I spy” method from our picnic blanket. We even used the noodles from the Back to Nature USDA Organic Crazy Bugs Macaroni & Cheese Dinner as markers on our boards. The girls later insisted on gluing down the pieces because they were so cute. I couldn’t agree more. What a fun and creative way to turn bingo into an art project and a memory too.

And what picnic blanket is complete without a meal?!

Back-to-nature-bowlDid you know that Mac and Cheese Day is coming up on July 14th?

Mark your calendars now, pick up some Back to Nature Mac and Cheese at Target and be ready to celebrate the day with a creamy, cheesy & delicious meal.
