Fall Bucket List 2016!

With the first official day of fall arriving tomorrow I thought it was the perfect time to share our fall bucket list.

Disclaimer: the odds of me being one of the last to post my list is probably pretty high, especially since I waited until right before fall officially starts. BUT, I would like you to know that I made this list and scheduled this post on August 12th! I just had to put that in here so my being “late” to the bucket list party wasn’t confused with me not being excited. I love fall every bit as much as any other boot & scarf wearing, pumpkin spice eating, giddy that it’s fall, basic white girl. It’s a stereotype that I will always proudly embrace.

Here is what I have planned for our fall.

*Have a bonfire
*Have a chili night
*Go geo-caching
*Play in the leaves
*Make apple dumplings
*Date night
*Make sweet potato pie
*Visit a pumpkin patch
*Day trip
*Carve pumpkins
*Go for a nature walk
*Bob for apples
*Navigate a corn maze
*Have a pumpkin spice latte
*Halloween movie night
*Make a fall craft
*Drink apple cider
*Go trick-or-treating
*Go on a hay-ride
*Make a thankful tree
*Attend a fall festival
*Make s’mores
*Try a new pumpkin recipe

We plan to spend from now until Thanksgiving working hard on our list, crossing off as many things as we can, and making as many memories as possible.

Project Sunday {October 2015}

With October long over I am now just a few weeks away from wrapping up my 2015 photo project.

I have so many exciting plans for next years picture project that I want to share and get excited about, but I guess I should get a little closer to wrapping up 2015 first?!

Here are weeks 40-43!

I love this fun asymmetrical skirt on Marissa, especially with those cowgirl boots.

Emily was excited to wear some orange, her favorite color.

You have to love fall in Missouri where you can wear pieces from every season all at once.

The hot-rod reunion meant we dressed down a bit.
Doesn’t Emily look like a pink lady?
A blurry photo and Marissa’s first Maxi skirt (that I secretly wish was mine).

10 months down, 2 more to go!
How have you documented 2015?

Halloween 2015

We went into Halloween 2015 with a few questions.

Would we freeze?

Would it be raining?

And most importantly, would Emily be dressed like Minnie Mouse?

I am happy to report the answers:

No, no and of course she would!

This year we escorted around a Cowgirl Princess and Minnierella!

Marissa had decided MONTHS ago that she wanted to dress up as a cowgirl but Emily’s Minnerella combination was pretty spur of the moment. She had planned on a different costume (still Minnie inspired) but after a trip to Walmart with me she changed her mind. Thankfully I had the perfect Cinderella dress already on hand so I was easily able to amuse her.

We snapped some photos and headed over to Russ’ parents house to meet up with our friends.

This crazy crew is so much fun. Some of the coolest kids I know for sure!

We even had this gorgeous sunset as we started out.

I snapped this photo of the sunset and the kids.

I can’t help but laugh seeing Emily’s Minnie ears stand out so clearly.

House after house my heart was beaming when I would hear them loudly shout “TRICK OR TREAT” in unison. They had so much fun and were given SO much candy. I’d say our loot was 80% candy bars, the good kind too! This is NOT going to make the candy easy to resist.

Once we were back the kids all dove head first into their candy buckets…. the moms might have snuck a few (dozen) pieces too.
Group photo. So happy I actually remembered. I might just turn into a real blogger after all ;).

Thanks Grandma & Papa for letting us come over and bring our friends along too!

The Guy Behind The Blog {October 2015}

When filling out my blog planner I always write in a few posts that I like to do every month: Currently, Monthly Goals, Photo Challenge Update, Teaching Together and the one that has became my favorite, The Guy Behind The Blog.
I’m not sure if I like it because it’s a fun post to read & write or maybe I like to share a glimpse of what life is like with my guy. Most likely the real truth is I enjoy watching him squirm while we have our monthly interrogation session.
Whatever it is, it works.
1// We’re headed into fall, which means cooler temps for most of us…are you a warm weather or cold weather kind of guy?
Quickly answers: “Warm Weather! Who wants to be cold and wear a bunch of stupid clothes?! Winters like prison.”

*Important note: I would like to point out that this is the first time his answer has not included a sigh, groan, long pause or grumble.

2// What’s the best Halloween costume you’ve ever worn?

“Pshffttt!” *big sigh*
“Oh yeah, Billy Idol! There you go!”

My thoughts: Little does he know this costume has already made its blog debut earlier in the week. HA! That will teach him to not read my blog ;).

3// What’s your favorite Halloween candy?
*Head shaking*
“I guess Resess Peanut Butter Cups. I mean those disgusting marshmallow peanuts and candy corn, Mmmmm!!! That stuff is nasty.”
4 // What are your favorite parts of fall (ex: football, the weather, Thanksgiving, etc)?

*Hysterical laughter followed by silence*
Me: I’ll take sarcasm if that’s all you got.
“The days that it doesn’t feel like fall. All fall says to me is get ready to start freezing your butt off soon.”
5 // How do you feel about pumpkin spice lattes?

“Pumpkin what?!”
*I repeat the question
“Hmmm?… Pumpkin Spice Lattes. Well, with as much pumpkin stuff as you’ve been feeding me lately I would probably vomit if I tried to drink one. I want to punch a pumpkin in the face.”
My thoughts: Tell us how you really feel Russ! And just for the record I have not been feeding him that much pumpkin lately. He just really isn’t a fan, at all. I’m perfectly fine with that too, more for me!
How does your guy feel about the pumpkin madness?!

The Ghost of Halloween Past

I’m a total sucker for throwback posts.

Maybe I am sentimental or maybe I am a gluten for punishment.

There is just something about looking back on the past that I love so very, very much.

So that is exactly what we are going to do today as we take a look back on the Halloweens past.

Let’s start at the beginning, 2007!

The first Halloween picture of us as a family of 3 would be this (Russ might kill me).

I was about 5.5 weeks pregnant with Marissa here and mum was the word.

Now parents of a 4 month old it was pretty obvious we were excited. We had Halloween outfits and 2 costumes. The mermaid one is my favorite. Her first costume was inspired by her name which happens to mean from the sea.

Our Elmo obsessed silly girl was a ladybug princess.

In 2010 we were expecting a baby sister, Marissa was clearly obsessed with Russ and her facial expressions were always #onpoint.

Yo, this is my sister!
Since they were now clearly a duo I dressed them as a pair, Little Bo Peep and her sheep.

Probably my favorite Halloween so far. Marissa was the prettiest Cinderella ever. I dressed  her then cried all the tears because she looked so beautiful. Emily was a princess too (Marissa’s idea). So funny to look back on almost 2 year old Emily with so little hair.

By Halloween 2013 a certain someone was head over heels in love with Minnie Mouse and Marissa jumped on to a different Disney character.

I don’t think anyone was surprised when Emily chose to be Minnie Mouse again we changed up the costume with some simple pieces we already had lying around because, hello, she’s obsessed. Marissa picked a butterfly so I made these awesome wings from felt.

Fall Bucket List Check-in #3

Last week we only managed to cross off one thing on the bucket list so I spared myself the embarrassment and skipped the bucket list post. However, I am back for redemption today. We miraculously managed to put a pretty big dent in our list and it looks like we just might be able to finish up our list after all.

Here is what we have checked off our list since check-in #1 and check-in #2

Bake a Pie

They were so excited to dive in and get busy. Their flavor of choice? Pumpkin of course!

Fall Themed Craft With The Kids

We probably could have already crossed this one off but with a few bigger projects done we’ll make it official.

I picked up a 2 pack of paintable pumpkins and some metalic paint at Hobby Lobby.

Then Saturday morning Marissa and I spent some time working on this. I had most of the supplies on hand already so it was a simple fun way to add some Halloween flare.

Visit a Pumpkin Patch

Here we are again for for our yearly trip to Fredrickson Farms. In my oppinion the Joplin area is REALLY lacking a good pumpkin patch. Maybe I should buy some land and become a farmer? The pumpkin selection here was less than impressive.

See what I mean?!
So we bought a couple baby pumpkins then went to Aldi and picked these guys up for $2.69 each.
Whatever works right?!

Caramel Apples

I know I said caramel apples and technically we had caramel apples. We just chose to go the easy to eat route.

It started with homemade salted caramel sauce and ended with some very sticky hands and fingers. It was SO good. The best part is we have LOTS leftover so we can keep using this stuff all through the holidays. Making caramel was WAY easier than I expected, I will never buy caramel dip ever again.
Watch a Halloween Movie

Friday night after our caramel apple dip the girls and I sat down to watch a Halloween movie. The movie of choice?

Marissa wanted to watch something else but I think she got so nervous that it would be spooky that she chickened out and went with something familiar.

Fall fun that wasn’t on our list…

We went to the Maple Leaf Parade.

Then stopped by the Maple Leaf car show.
Mo-Kan’s Hot Rod Reunion is always an October highlight.
Another super easy chalk board creation of mine.
Silly hat day at co-op, #nailedit
As of October 26th this is where we are on our list 11/15 done!

Today I am linking up with Courtney and some other amazing ladies!
