The Kids Behind The Blog, October 2016

2

One of my favorite parts about our interviews every month is having a post where all the focus is on the girls. After all, they are the entire reason I started this blog in the first place. The past couple of months I have been snapping photos to add to my post on our interview day. This month interview day just happened to coincide with mustache night at Awana. When they requested that their mustaches be a part of our photo shoot, I couldn’t say no.

oct2 oct-interview-1 oct-3

And after seeing the results I am SO happy I went along with their shenanigans. I love that these photos capture my silly girls perfectly. What a great reminder to be a mom that says yes more often.

This months questions are about all things Halloween.
Let’s take a look.

What do you want to be for Halloween?
Marissa// A vet!
Emily// Tinkerbell Minnie Mouse!

Do you like handing out candy or collecting it?
Marissa// Collecting it! *happy dance*
Emily// I want people to give candy to ME!

What should mommy and daddy be for Halloween?
Marissa// I think mommy should be a fairy princess and daddy should be a police officer.
(In the video I answer with a very sarcastic “okay?!” I am still laughing at my response. It kind of gives of the yeah right like that would ever happen vibe)
Emily// Uh I think daddy should be a dragon and you should be a…. (long pause while she is distracted by a car driving by)… a mom. I know you, can be a girl dragon. Daddy can be Toothless and you can be Storm Fly!

Do you like to make a scary or happy face Jack-o-lanterns?
Marissa// Happy!
Emily// Happy!

What is the best part of Halloween? What’s the worst?
Marissa// Best: Getting candy. Worst: Getting scared.
(She goes on to tell a story about a doorbell that had a spider that scared her one year. I tell her how awesome that was and she strongly disagrees with me)
Emily// Best: Getting candy with our friends. Worst: Having to walk a lot!

For all the extra peppiness, wiggling, sarcasm, and drama be sure to check out this months videos.

The Kids Behind The Blog, September 2016

TKBTB Sept
The arrival of a new month means another interview with my favorite girls. This month I was super organized and we took some photos and shot our interview videos on the same day. That never happens and it is highly unlikely that it will ever happen again. Plus, I think I score some bonus points on that brick wall back drop. I need to remember this photo spot for the future.

I know I say it every single month, but I adore this link-up and I really hope you do too. It is such a fun way to document the girls just the way they are and it is my absolute favorite day to read blog posts. Your kids are so funny (yes, you) and I hope that you will keep linking up what they have to say. The sweet, the uncooperative, and the things that make you say WHAT?!

TK2Here is our September interview…

What is your favorite sport? Why?
Marissa // Basket Ball, it’s the only sport we play.
*I prompted her on running and she said she likes it a lot too.
Emily // Uh Basket Ball? I like the part where daddy picks me up so I can make points.

If someone gave you a million dollars what would you buy?
Marissa // A bunch of Legos!
Emily // The Grand Hotel (a Lego set), The Emma house (another Lego set). She would pretty much just buy Legos.

Tell me 3 things that kids do better than mommies and daddies.
Marissa // Getting in/on swing sets, swinging, and hiding.
Emily // being silly, being wilder, and being a better player.

What is your favorite thing to do in the fall?
Marissa // Jump in leaves.
Emily // I like playing with sissy and going trick or treating.

Share with me 3 things you like about yourself.
Marissa // I like that I have straight hair. I like that I don’t have glasses. *small panic with a long pause* I like my dimples!
Emily // I like my french fry shirt (her clothes). I like my Legos. I like that I have glasses.

The Kids Behind The Blog, July 2016

The second Wednesday of the month means my favorite girls take the spotlight for our monthly ‘The Kids Behind The Blog’ interview. It also happens to be my favorite day of the month to read blog posts too. Kids say the darndest things, right?!

This months interviews seemed to be a bit less compromised than last months, but I think we could have answered every single question with some kind of swimming related answer. This interview makes how we love to spend our summer oh so obvious.

tkbtb2 tkbtb1 tkbtb3
What  2 things do you like to do outside in the summer?

Marissa // Swimming and eating ice cream.
Emily // Go to the pool and play with Jonathan and David

If you could go anywhere this Summer where would you go and why?
Marissa // To Disney World. Because we’ve only been there once.
Emily // I do not know. Grandma’s house….the pool…. Silver Dollar City…. MINNIE! I’ve been wanting to see her!

What is your favorite thing about summer?
Marissa // Swimming
Emily // I like… swimming

If you could pick any way to spend a hot Summer day, how would you spend it?
Marissa // Swimming
Emily // I would just stay inside… or go to the pool.

What is your favorite Summer treat?
Marissa // Root beer floats
Emily // That’s hard. Ice Cream! Vanilla with cherries and hot fudge.

And just for fun (and to help me remember them at this age) I once again filmed the interviews.
Such silly little girls.

The Guy Behind The Blog {June 2016}

One year ago I interviewed the hubby for the first time and shared his hostile hysterical answers in a monthly link-up called ‘The Guy Behind The Blog’. It was so much fun (for me) that the tradition stuck around and over the past year he has done several more interviews. You can see the collection of posts HERE.

The Guy june
Russ doesn’t exactly love these interviews, being married to a blogger or any form of social media really. But, he does love me. So when a scheduling error popped up and I asked to do this post at the last-minute, my knight in shining armor came to the rescue.

IMG_8508 IMG_8516
1// What did you have as a child that kids today don’t have?
A life without the internet. It was amazing.

2// What did you want to be as a child when you grew up?
A stuntman for movies…. is that specific enough?

3// What three adjectives would you use to describe fatherhood?
*Long pause of silence*
I don’t know…fun, challenging, and rewarding.

4// How many years have you been a father and how many children do you have?
Do I really need to tell you? It seems like you could probably just fill it in on your own there?
Me: Yeah, I was hoping that would be your answer :P.
*Beth types in* Eight years, 2 girls.

5// What is one piece of advice or wisdom you would like to pass on to your children?
To always put your relationship with Christ first.
Oh and don’t trust boys (except for me),

He is a man of few words, but he always leaves me laughing.
So thankful for this guy and that we get to do this thing called life together.

The Kids Behind The Blog, June 2016

It’s once again time to turn the spotlight to the girls for my favorite monthly link-up, The Kid(s) Behind The Blog. Once a month I have a sit down interview with the girls to ask them random questions and hope their answers don’t rat me out or cause DFS to come visit our home. I would like to point out that I STILL can’t believe that Emily said my favorite thing to do was take naps. I swear I hardly ever take naps!

The unfortunate part is this month’s interview results were compromised. I usually interview Emily first but Marissa was begging to go first and apparently Emily who was supposed to be playing in her room was actually listening in on our conversation. When she started saying the same exact answers as sister for some most of the questions, I became VERY suspicious.

tkbtb1 tkbtb2 tkbtb3
Let’s take a look.

What do you like doing with Daddy?
Marissa // Going on bike rides.
Emily // Playing Memory

What was Daddy like as a little boy?
Marissa // Happy, He liked to play with Legos & look at cars.
Emily // Four? Happy. He liked boy Legos.

What’s Daddy’s favorite food?
Marissa // Lasagna
Emily // Lasagna

What does Daddy do at work?
Marissa // Bring people the stuff they order.
Emily // Get people the things they need. Oh! He works on cars… wait no he doesn’t.

What is your favorite memory of Daddy?
Marissa // When we went to Springfield (See this post)
Emily // Springfield! Playing with my Minnie stuff with him.

So lesson learned, ALWAYS interview Emily first or use ear plugs on her. Maybe I need a sound proof booth?! I’ll see if I can work on that for July ;).  At least when I did ask her, she fessed up. You can see that in her interview video below.

The Guy Behind The Blog {May 2016}

What a weekend friends!

We ran, played, and recovered HARD! It was fantastic!

IMG_7646
Today I wanted to dial things back and give myself a chance to collect some thoughts *aka photos* so I figured what better way to do that than with another spotlight on my favorite guy?!

Another interview with my favorite guy is on the #blog as we play a game of would you rather. Click To Tweet
Russ Half

The questions for May are a little different, highlighting a series of “would you rather” questions. That also meant that we flew through this interview in record time with no loud grumbles. WHAT?! How is that even possible! I must admit I was slightly disappointed that he wasn’t his “normal” monthly interview self but it did make for a nice change of pace.

Here we go?

1.  Would you rather have to wear your swimsuit to work OR have to carry around a large beach umbrella open all day at work?

Swimsuit duh! I need my hands… some people have to use their hands for work.

2.  Would you rather play on an MLB team OR get to tour with your favorite band all summer?

Do I get paid like a major league player? If not, tour with a band.

3.  Would you rather go to the beach and forget your towel OR go to the beach and forget your sunscreen?

*Silence*… Hhmmmm? Well forgetting a towel won’t give you skin cancer… so let’s say towel.

4.  Would you rather take a week-long vacation to anywhere in the world OR take a month-long vacation but have to stay within 100 miles of home?

 *Sigh* *Eats a chip*
I don’t know a month without work sounds pretty good. But going somewhere I haven’t been sounds pretty good too. I know, I didn’t answer your question.

5.  Would you rather get to have as much ice cream as you want this summer, but only be able to get vanilla OR only get to have ice cream three times this summer, but you can have whatever flavors you want?

Well vanilla is the only ice cream that I eat so I think this is a win-win for me.

Now it’s your turn to play along mama’s
Answer this question for me in the comments.

Would you rather have a kid that is a terrible eater, crying at ever meal, or a terrible sleeper, waking up once every night?
