One of our favorite parts about summer is easily one of the yummiest too.
Ice cream!
From a cool down on a hot day, to the perfect way to end the perfect summer evening, ice cream is always our go to. Marissa, my little party planner, recently brought up the idea of having and ice cream sundae party this summer. I thought it sounded like a great idea but I must admit, I was a tad nervous. It sounded expensive and out of our typical grocery budget.

Today I am here to tell you I was wrong.

Wanting to encourage my budding party planning queen I decided to do test run and see what we would need to make her party dreams reality. Besides, we were currently out of ice cream and it gave me the perfect reason to go pick some up.

We headed to our local Wal-Mart where we found everything we needed. Blue Bunny┬« Homemade Vanilla Ice Cream, Smucker’s toppings, Keebler waffle cones, fresh fruit and more.

Ice cream and toppings are just better together. Just like we are better together with our friends. I think that is exactly what Marissa had in mind when she dreamed up this ice cream party to start with.

Here are a few tips I learned while planning our party.
I hope these tips help you create your own sundae party this summer on a budget.

Shop at home first//

I can’t tell you how many things I found in my own pantry. Nuts, chocolate chips, sprinkles, candies. You name it. You don’t need TONS of anything so use up any odds and ends. Or better yet, mix them together!

Portion control, avoid waste//
I think my eyes are always bigger than my stomach, especially when it comes to ice cream. By using small bowls or cups you aren’t leaving much room for that to happen. Guests can always come back for seconds if they want, but they likely wont need to..

Use Ibotta//
Did you know you can earn cash back on Smucker’s Ice Cream Toppings with the free Ibotta app? I also found cash back on other must have items as well.

Chop it up//
I was surprised to see that one banana was more than enough for 4 people’s sundaes. By pre-slicing the fruit toppings up it really stretched how far they went. Any leftover could be frozen and saved for later..

Don’t over shop//
This gets me EVERY time. For some reason I imagine ever one eating their weight in ice cream and over shop. No wonder I worry about the cost! Be realistic in your planning and realize it’s okay to run out of somethings.

Go for value and variety//
Smucker’s  offers a wide variety of ice cream toppings to add delight and a creative touch to dessert time. Stick with a name like Smucker’s that everyone knows and loves. And don’t forget about the cash back Ibotta offer!

BYOT//
Bring Your Own Topping is another great option. You can always host a social where you provide the Blue Bunny┬« and Smucker’s toppings and invite your guests to bring one of their favorite toppings to share. I definitely wouldn’t turn down an invitation like that.

Something healthy, something colorful, something crunchy and some kind of sauce. You are sure to make the perfect sundae if you follow those rules.

Celebrating Ice Cream Day!

In case you didn’t know yesterday was National Ice Cream Day.

One of our summer bucket list items was to make homemade ice cream and by some random coincidence this was the weekend we had planned to do that. I have no idea how I timed that so perfectly, but I did. I guess I should have just let everyone believe I really am that organized.

Friday night we planned to have some friends over for a cook out and ice cream. The girls were more than happy to help me out in the kitchen, that morning we mixed up the half and half, cream and sugar and let it cool in the fridge. (Pardon her CRAZY bed head.)

By that afternoon we were ready to put the machine to work.
They were so helpful.

With the hard part done they sat back and waited.

And waited, and waited and waited.
Finally it was done and we stuck it in the freezer for later.

One of our favorite summer get togethers is hanging out on the patio with friends. Relaxing , eating and drinking.

After dinner and play time on the trampoline the girls were more than excited that it was time to get out the ice cream.
Emily may have had a slight accident with the blue sprinkles, but she didn’t seem to mind.
“This ice cream is so good!’

One more thing we can mark of our Bucket List and the tastiest part of summer so far.

We weren’t at all disappointed that all of the ice cream mix didn’t fit in the machine, so we HAD to make ice cream again on Sunday.

Now to head to the gym to burn off the exorbitant amount of calories I consumed this weekend.

How was your weekend?
