Friday Highlights 5.5.17

Hello Friday!

It is here, our first official day of summer vacation! After 36 weeks of school we finally wrapped up our 4th hear of homeschooling! Hip, hip, hooray! Now we get to enjoy the next 3 months away from the books… kind of. I have always been a big advocate of summer learning and I am working on some great ways to keep my girls reading and learning this summer.

Let’s take a look at this weeks Friday Highlights!

Friday Highlights, V36

Hello Friday!

Happy Fri-Yay friends!

A typical Friday post around here consists of little things that didn’t end up with a blog post of their own, blog highlights, announcements, and random thoughts from the weird corners of my mind. But today I am breaking away from the normal to share five things that I’m loving right now.

Five things I love

Floral baseball tee’s

Floral shirt

I recently purchased this shirt with a gift card I won and I am in love. The colors and style are so perfect for fall. I might end up living in this shirt so if you see it on me a lot, don’t be surprised.

Amazon Prime

Every time I have a free trial of Amazon Prime I can’t get enough of the convenience. Confession: every single email address I use has an amazon account just so I could have a Prime trial. However, when it comes to paying the $99 for the year, I just don’t want to do it. Anyone else?!

We have yet to really figure out the Prime movies and Prime music. Maybe if I did I would be convinced to go for it. I have a love hate relationship with Netflix and Prime might be a better choice?

Thoughts? Opinions?
I am pretty much begging to be convinced.

My work space

I know I already wrote an entire post on my work space but when thinking of things that I love, it still was high on my list. I can’t even tell you how much having this little area has meant to me and my productivity. Spending time there is the great and my girls love having me so close during our school days. If you have been thinking about creating a work space to call your own here is some encouragement to do it! Whether it’s a full office or just a little corner like I have, go for it!

Children’s Place Jeans

Having very tall, very skinny girls has proved to be problematic in the shopping department. They need one size for length but an entirely different size for the waist. Thank God for Children’s Place! Their jeans have the pull tabs that I have loved for year, plus they carry slims online making jeans for my girls a reality. Without them I fear we may be stuck in leggings forever. Which really wouldn’t be such a bad thing I suppose.

It’s also my favorite place to buy headbands too.

My diffuser

With fall upon us and the return of germs everywhere I plan to keep thieves in the diffuser for the next 6 months #kiddingnotkidding. I picked up this diffuser last fall after debating on getting one for months and I am still happy I did. It is affordable and perfect for the part of the house that we spend the most time in.

Do you use essential oils?

Friday Highlights, V35

Hello Friday!

It is FRI-nally Friday! I am so happy that we can almost call this week over. This week was supposed to be packed full of fun and plans but my allergies flared up and I put everything on hold. Literally everything. I even went almost 4 whole days without applying a stitch of make up to my face. I am so thankful that I am finally starting to feel human again after a week of sneezing, watery eyes, and blowing my nose constantly. Life was not pretty around here this week, it was all about just surviving. But hey, its Friday now!

Let’s take a look at this week picks.

New glasses

They are here! Emily’s new glasses arrived just over a week ago and oh my word are they cute… and thick. Having a prescription pretty close to hers, I knew what to expect. With a +5.50 lens it is just going to be thick even if you get the thin lenses. She has been having a rough time adjusting to them too. The ophthalmologist warned us that she would hate them at first. Baby girl has spent YEARS forcing her eyes to see. With the glasses now doing the work for her, telling her brain to stop forcing things is easier said than done.

New glasses
But I am excited to report we have already notice an improvement in the eye crossing and we are still praying she won’t need surgery.

Mug love exchange

Did you see the announcement I made on Wednesday?!

Mug Love Exchange
I am so excited to be co-hosting this mug swap.

The first day of co-op

Today we begin our 4th year of co-op. That doesn’t seem possible, but it is. I feel like such a hippie when I say we go to a co-op. In reality co-op is group classes. Every week we are there for about 3 hours. The girls get have gym time and learn about subjects that are better taught in a group setting. We take field trips, have parties, and provide each other with support. It is amazing and I can’t imagine homeschooling without a co-op.

We are so excited for this years classes to begin!

You have probably seen this image countless times already. But, if you are as #basic as I am, you smile every single time. I’m not asking you to join in or even understand. Just don’t be a party-pooper, m’kay?!

Friday Highlights, V34

Hello Friday!

Happy Fri-Yay friends. Hands in the air if you are excited for a 3 day weekend?! We are actually kicking off a 4 day weekend around here since it is our last Friday with no school activities. Our schedule goes into full swing next though. We were lucky to have a full month to ease into getting used to our homeschool routine but next week we add in everything else. Home group, Awana, Mom Life (MOPS), and co-op. It is bound to be a BUSY and crazy week. So let’s get back to that 4 day weekend and worry about the rest over a cup of coffee on Tuesday morning.

Here are this weeks Friday picks!

The tooth

Marissa recently had to have a tooth pulled #allthemommyfeelings. If you ask me the technical reasons why, I can’t really explain. What I do know is the kid has a very crowded mouth and we are sure to end up paying for braces eventually. Upon the dentists preference I stayed in the waiting room with Emily and waited what was probably the longest 40 minutest ever. Finally Marissa came bouncing out completely giddy with excitement. She thought getting her tooth pulled was just the best thing ever. I know, she’s weird.

She loved it so much that she decided that she didn’t want the tooth fairy to taker her tooth and she is keeping it. Did I mention that all of this happened ON our anniversary. So #9 will also be known as the day Marissa’s tooth came out.

Fall Fashion

Fall is just around the corner and I can’t help but get the itch for some new clothes. Reality says Marissa will be the one who ends up with some new things to wear. I mean I guess she does kind of need clothes that actually fit. But I can hope I get to pick up a few thing for myself too, right?

Here is what t I have my eyes on.

Colored Jeans

Utility Vest

What are you hoping to pick up for fall?

New hair cuts

Marissa and I both got new haircuts recently. Confession: sometimes I go 18 months without a hair cut and oh my goodness does it show when I do.

I added a lot of layering and trimmed of my dead ends.

M hair

Marissa shocked me by choosing to keep her length. The past several haircuts she has gone with a short bob, but she didn’t want to this time. We added some layers and trimmed hers up too. I wonder how long this longer hair thing will last with her.

My Phablet

A couple of weeks ago at the drag strip I made a bathroom run with the girls. The bathrooms were very clean but pretty bare bones. There was nowhere to set my camera and Emily still insists on using the stall with me (which is probably for the best really). I ended up watching her, holding my camera, and trying to go to the bathroom simultaneously. I thought everything was going to work out when I heard a plop. At first I thought “What was that?!” quickly to be followed by a “NNNNOOOOO!!!!” I have never shoved my hand into a toilet so quickly friends. I have also never been happier for soap and ALL the hand sanitizer in the world.

Long story short, I ended up with a new phone and I kind of love it. My old Galaxy S3 was more outdated than I ever realized and this new phone is so cool. Downfall, it’s kind of a phablet. Phone + Tablet = Phablet, aka really big. But I don’t care. It does everything and more that I hoped it would.

Little deer
So if you see me posting A LOT more selfies and snaps now, you know why.

Friday Highlights 2016, V32

Hello Friday!

Happy, happy Friday friends! Today is my favorite Friday of the year AND the husband is off work today, #winning. Tonight kicks off the annual H.A.M.B Drag Nationals. It is how we celebrate our anniversary and a weekend we count down to all year long. They say when you love someone you learn to love their interests.I suppose that is exactly what has happened with this weekend. I’m not sure who enjoys it more now days though. Now if we could just get rid of some of the rain that is in the forecast…

Let’s take a look at this weeks highlights.

Emily’s visit to Children’s Mercy

Earlier this week we took a trip to Kansas City to see a children’s ophthalmologist. We found out a lot of information and to be honest I feel like I am still processing the things he said. To make a long story short he felt the way she was currently being treated was garbage, prescribed new glasses, told us to do nothing other than let her wear the glasses and we go back in mid November to check her progress.

We kind of feel like we had an unexpected rug pulled out from underneath us. We knew his opinion would likely vary from the first one we received, but to be told the glasses she was wearing weren’t helping anything?! That was a tough pill to swallow. Especially seeing this has been going on for almost 6 months. He also was able to explain the ways Emily has been coping with her condition for so long to us. That girl is amazing.

So please keep praying. We are hoping to see 100% improvement and no more eye crossing with the new glasses. If we don’t, we are likely looking at surgery.

LegoLand Discovery Center

I had great plans to make an IKEA stop while we were in K.C. but I decided it would be more special for the girls to do something they love, like visit the LegoLand Discovery Center. PLUS we were less than 5 minutes away from it anyways. Those girls eat, sleep, and breathe all things Lego so they had the best time!

Crown Center

We also walked around Crown Center and ate lunch at Fritz’s. I was laughing with Russ because we never really spend any time in K.C. I’ve made a few IKEA runs, we went to the speedway, and the airport, but that has been the extent of us exploring K.C. together. I guess with more appointments for Emily in the future it seems like that might be changing soon. I better work on a things to do list, including meet up with Dara

Roller Girls

The first time I took the girls roller skating they looked like arms and legs flailing around.
Oh how things have changed.

IMG_1106 IMG_1152
We recently bought our own skates and let’s just say their skating skills have MAJORLY improved with the extra practice. I love seeing them excited about and loving something new.
