Let’s Talk, Fall Favorites

Fall, glorious, wonderful fall!

Out of all the seasons, fall is definitely my favorite. With the end of August just around the corner, the anticipation of the arrival of all things fall is starting to build. I promised myself I would wait until after Labor Day to decorate and until the 22nd of September to finish our summer bucket list, but that doesn’t mean that I haven’t been anxiously pinning pumpkin spice everything recipes since the end of July.

Fall-Favorites
Today’s post is all about my fall favorites. A chance to share with you the things I love the most about the soon to arrive season. I feel like this post could get a little bit out of control, because there is so much to love, but I am going to try to keep some control.

Fall chalk boards

Last year I fell in love with chalk board art and fall boards were definitely some of my favorites to create.

fall chalkPumpkin spice everything

Totally stereotypical, but something about that pumpkin spice gets me every stinking time. In fact I have something along these lines already planned for the month of October. But you’ll just have to wait and see what that is.

Maple Leaf

Every year a neighboring town holds The Maple Leaf Festival complete with a big car show and swap meet. It is already wrote on our calendar for 2016!

fall maple leafPlaid

Last year I purchased more plaid items than I have the entire rest of my life combined. I hope to grow my collection even more this year.

Sunsets

Sunsets in the fall are hands down the best. Something about the changing of the season not only makes for pretty leaves, but the skies are full of color too.

fall skyBoots

Nothing says fall like busting out the boots. I have already been keeping my eyes on a pair that I hope to add to my collection this year.

Halloween

What is fall without Halloween costumes?! I am not the mom who sews hand-made costumes every year, but we don’t buy them off the rack either. I can’t wait to see what we come up with this year and if Emily decides to be Minnie Mouse for the 4th time in a row.

fall halloweenCorn maze trips

Every year we make at least one corn maze visit and we always have so much fun. In the years past we have always taken the early exit but I am hoping that this is the year the girls want to do the full maze.

Fall decorations

I’ll admit I am not a huge seasonal decorator outside of Christmas. I am pretty sure I make up for any lack of decorations we have the rest of the year with our 5+ Christmas trees alone. However come fall even I find myself decorating with leaves, pumpkins, and anything else that goes.

fall decorOur thankful tree

About 3 years ago I started a thankful tree with the girls. Every day I have them write down one thing they are thankful for. It is so much fun to watch our tree grow full of leaves and see the things that the girls choose. They have grown to be much more thoughtful through the years.

Family

Family, I saved the best for last. My absolute favorite thing about fall is all the time we spend together. So much to go to, do, see, and experience as a family. The memories are priceless.

I can hardly stand the wait!

Fall Bucket List 2014: Corn Maze

Fall is here, October is here and all week I have ready to tackle our Fall Bucket List. So much to do in such a short amount of time.

We just might have the best Edward Jones Adviser who also happens to know how to throw a great party. On Saturday we were invited to go check out Pathways Corn Maze. That worked out perfect because going to a corn maze just happened to be on our list.

First up we hopped on a hay ride and went around the corn field. October and hayrides, I could barely handle all of the fall excitement. Not to mention the weather was cool enough that we were wearing sweatshirts.

At least someone was smiling, and looking.

Up next was the barrel train.

Then a quick run through the hay maze to get us ready for the “main event”.

My selfie hating husband humored me while we waited.
Fun photo-ops were everywhere.

Finally we were ready to tackle the 19 acre maze.
If you ever decide to go through a corn maze it is very helpful to have two things.
1. A map
2. Someone who can read said map.
Lucky for me, I had both. With the map in hand Russ was effortlessly navigating us through the maze. Some people say a map is cheating. But 19 acres, 2 small kids. You are a braver soul than I am.

This years maze had a Snoopy theme.

After a trip through the corn maze we sat down for snacks, cider and took a few more runs through the hay maze before heading home.

Corn maze, CHECK!

Fall Bucket List 2014

It’s here, it’s finally here! Even though Pumpkin Spice Lattes have been out for over a month and our homes have been decorated for a couple weeks now. Today is the day that it is officially fall!

Fallelujah!

We had so much fun doing our summer bucket list that I instantly knew that we had to make one for fall.

Every year there are SO many fall activities that I want to do. It is definitely one of the best and most magical times of the year in the Newman household. It was really hard for me to narrow down my “ultimate list” to one that we could accomplish by the end of October.

I can hardly wait to get started and share our adventures along the way.

What is on your fall bucket list?

If you posted one, leave the link in the comments so I can check it out!

It’s The Little Things: Let’s Go For a Walk

Monday morning rolled around and that meant back to the books.

Currently we do our school at the dining room table. I am not in love with using this space for school but it is the best place we have for now. Future plans are being made to transform the back play room into a school room but that probably won’t be complete until next year.

Monday – Friday from 8-3 this is usually what my dining room looks like.

Books, pencils, crayons, usually paper scraps and almost always a glass of tea that I have yet to finish.

It was beautiful Monday. The windows were open the breeze was blowing and I just couldn’t take it any more.

“Let’s get out of here”

I only had to say it once, within minutes they had their shoes on and were ready to go.

We headed down the street and around the corner. Right around the block from our house sits my favorite house in Joplin. I have been completely in love with this house since I was Marissa’s age. Someday it will be for sale and I WILL go take a look. I didn’t mind one bit that the girls paused to play a bit right in front of it.

We kept walking, laughing and talking, pausing to watch a squirrel playing in a tree.

Then Marissa noticed why the squirrel was hanging around, so we collected a few that obviously ended up in my pocket.

We watched the bulldozers.

Sat on a bench and snapped a picture.

And found a hedge apple tree, “WHAT are these?” followed by “Can we eat them?”

Then we Marissa ran a lap around the walking track while Emily and I lagged behind.

It was lovely. The perfect start to our week and such an awesome reminder of the flexibility that comes with homeschooling.

So we want to go for a walk, Why not?!

With some fresh air in my lungs returning back to that table didn’t seem so bad at all.

Friday Favorites 8.29.14

Friday!

Labor Day weekend is finally here. In my head signifies the close of all things summer, which only makes me want to embrace any and all things fall even more than I already am.

We will be spending the holiday weekend at home, trying to stay cool. Which probably means staying inside, BOO! Unfortunately the summer weather finally decided to kick in just about the same time that the pools closed and school resumed, *deep sigh*. I hope you all have more exciting plans than we do.

Here are this weeks Friday 5!

{ONE} Silver Dollar City Trip

I spent yesterday having fun ,AKA melting, at Silver Dollar City. Meme and Papa wanted to take the girls and they were nice enough to let me tag along to.

The best part about Silver Dollar City with Papa (besides the quality time with Papa, obviously), he spoils us rotten. I am pretty sure I ate about 2 or 3 days worth of calories in 8 hours. Cinnamon rolls the size of your face, funnel cake, pizza, frozen lemonade and taffy. Who could resist a “little” splurging. I would have been rude to say no, right?!

{TWO} Fall Baking

I spent Wednesday in the kitchen experimenting and playing with a new recipe. I can’t give to many details away but it is a super yummy easy to make fall flavored bagel and it will be my next contributor post on Beauty Through Imperfection.

So excited about this recipe!

I will keep you posted when it publishes in the next couple weeks.

{THREE} Toothless Grin

I adore this picture. What better way to remember a toothless grin than with an extreme close up.

And just in case you missed it, I dished the dirt on all of the tooth drama that has been our life lately.

{FOUR} Inside Out

Anyone?

Embarrassingly enough I seldom take the time to reverse them when and if I finally do notice.

{FIVE} The Little Old Lady

Fall is on the brain and the other day I just happened to stumble across one of our favorite fall/ Halloween books. Marissa fell in love with this book at Pre-K and it has been a favorite ever since.

If you don’t already own it pick up a copy and make sure to check out these adorable printables that make the story even more fun. We put some contact paper on ours in hopes they would last for a few years. Interactive story time at home, it doesn’t get much better than that!

Have a great Labor Day weekend!
