Fall Family Fun List, 2017

With the official arrival of fall just over 2 weeks away, I thought now would be the perfect time to share our 2017 Fall Family Fun list.

In the spirit of being honest I need to confess something… I almost didn’t make a fall list. I think a huge reason for that has been complete and utter failure with our spring and summer lists. I made them and then life just happened. But more than that, I discovered that we didn’t need them to fill in the gaps anymore. If all that I put on our summer list was attend VBS and go to the pool my girls would easily declare it the ‘Best Summer Ever’.

However, fall and Christmas are more about tradition than the relaxation of spring & summer break. There are things that our family has done year, after year and making a list helps me to keep track of them. So even though I may never create another spring or summer bucket list, I think fall and Christmas ones are here to stay.

Here is what we have planned for our fall.

Fall Bucket List 2016, The Finale

I gave us until Thanksgiving to complete our fall bucket list. With Thanksgiving arriving tomorrow, it seems we are out of time. But the good news is we don’t need any more time. We actually somehow managed to finish another list. At the end it was  sheer will power that got us through. A lot of the things we had left were really simple or already planned things. Have I ever mentioned that I am pretty stubborn? There was no way I w as about to let a couple of things keep us from finishing our list off.

2016 Fall Bucket List: Update #2

It’s been a few weeks since our first bucket list check in. In years past, I’ve always stopped working on our fall list after Halloween. In an attempt to “respect the bird” I thought we would stretch our list out until Thanksgiving. I think this approach is working, but I also feel pretty distracted by all things Christmas. I may or may not already have our Christmas bucket list made too. #ICantHelpMyself

Let’s take a look at what we’ve recently marked off.

2016 Fall Bucket List: Update #1

About a month ago I shared our 2016 Fall Bucket List. I feel like I scheduled that post and then just kind of forgot about it. When ‘the old’ blog planner showed an update penciled in for today I had a small panic attack. Thankfully, much to my surprise, we’ve done a pretty good gob so far at crossing things off. There are still A LOT of items left to go, but we have over a month left.

Here is what we have done so far:

Visit a pumpkin patch

After making it to the patch late last year and finding bare bones, we went MUCH earlier this time. We called it a field trip and went on a Thursday afternoon. The weather was lovely and so were the girls. I hate that our patch is rather boring compared to so many I see. There is nothing much to do around there. But, it is kind of nice to have a no fuss place to go to.

Navigate a corn maze

We did this one, twice! Do we get bonus points? We took one trip with Russ to Pathways Corn Maze and one trip with our home school co-op to Right Choices. Both were so much fun and hot. Why is it every time we plan a fall activity it decides to be 90 degrees.

Have a pumpkin Spice Latte

I have had one, ONE! Something about this just isn’t right. When I have an urge to get one I can’t leave the house OR it’s hot. I simply can not drink a PSL when the weather is hot. It just feels wrong. I don’t know how you warmer weather girls do it.

Go on a hay ride

Two trips to the corn maze also meant two hay rides AND two barrel train rides too! We also did hay mazes, corn canons, corn pillows and more but I’ll spare you all the photos.

Try a a new pumpkin recipe

With the ‘All Things Pumpkin’ Link-up going on there has been NO shortage of pumpkin treats around our house.

honey-cinn-butter Pumpkin Spice Oreo Truffles. So good, so easy, and you only need 5 ingredients! mummy-pies

Attend a fall festival

I maybe cheated by just attending the car show portion of the festival. I think I just chose the best part. Last year we attended the parade too, but I was really frustrated by the ridiculous amount of SCARY spook house floats. I said we’d never go again. I hate when events don’t consider keeping things family friendly.

So we’ve only marked 6 things out of the 24 we have listed. I’m almost tempted to panic, but completing our list is never the goal. The real goal is to be intentional about making memories together. And I think we are doing a pretty great job doing that.

How is your fall bucket list going?

Fall Bucket List 2016!

With the first official day of fall arriving tomorrow I thought it was the perfect time to share our fall bucket list.

Disclaimer: the odds of me being one of the last to post my list is probably pretty high, especially since I waited until right before fall officially starts. BUT, I would like you to know that I made this list and scheduled this post on August 12th! I just had to put that in here so my being “late” to the bucket list party wasn’t confused with me not being excited. I love fall every bit as much as any other boot & scarf wearing, pumpkin spice eating, giddy that it’s fall, basic white girl. It’s a stereotype that I will always proudly embrace.

Here is what I have planned for our fall.

Fall-Bucket-List-2016

*Have a bonfire
*Have a chili night
*Go geo-caching
*Play in the leaves
*Make apple dumplings
*Date night
*Make sweet potato pie
*Visit a pumpkin patch
*Day trip
*Carve pumpkins
*Go for a nature walk
*Bob for apples
*Navigate a corn maze
*Have a pumpkin spice latte

*Make a fall craft
*Drink apple cider
*Go trick-or-treating
*Go on a hay-ride
*Make a thankful tree
*Attend a fall festival

*Try a new pumpkin recipe

We plan to spend from now until Thanksgiving working hard on our list, crossing off as many things as we can, and making as many memories as possible.

For The Love Of Mugs {Exchange Announcement}

There are two ways I like my coffee, with loads of creamer and in one of my favorite mugs. That simple yet magical combination is what makes me smile when I pour my morning cup of coffee. But it hasn’t always been this way. In the past Russell had his mugs and I had nothing. I used the plain and boring mugs that came with our dishes.

Then things changed.

I picked up one mug, and another, then another. Before long my collection had grown.
Today I am sharing a few of my favorite mugs with you and details on how you can add another mug to your collection!

IMG_2234
The first mug I purchased was this one. It is itty bitty but if I am in a hurry it holds the perfect amount of coffee. I bought it on my first IKEA trip with Anna, and she bought the same one in plum.

IMG_2232
I received this mug in an exchange I did last Christmas. I use this mug on those days that I just don’t feel like I’ll make it. AKA Mondays.

IMG_2233
This mug was a present from a secret admirer who left it on my porch after I posted a photo of it on social media. I still feel loved every time I use it. Thank you secret admirer :).

IMG_2237
I bought this gem from the Dollar Tree, just because it made me laugh. Yup, still makes me laugh.

IMG_2229
And my precious favorite. I use this mug all day, every day from mid September through mid November. It was the last one in stock at Wal-Mart last year and if they happened to get them again this year I’d buy another just so I don’t have to wash mine all the time. I also like the idea of having a back up just in case something unspeakable was to happen.

I do realize that missing from my collection is a Christmas mug. I really need a good Christmas mug to make Christmas coffee seem more festive and July days seem more cheerful #ohyesIwould.

Onto that announcement…

Recently my friend Stephanie from Wife Mommy Me asked if I wanted to co-host a mug exchange. I didn’t have to think long before answering with a yes.
