Picture Perfect Project V9: August 2016

For almost two years now, I’ve been taking one photo a week of my girls!

Okay, so the exact count is 1 year and 8 months, but still. Having that many photos of my girls together is just awesome. They aren’t always the best quality photos and I can really see how some weeks I don’t do the best job playing photographer. I didn’t edit the entire first year of photos (something I REALLY regret). Sometimes the girls are in bad moods, some times they are mad that the grass is wet and they are wearing flip-flops, plus getting Emily to look and smile at the camera can STILL be a challenge. But 20 months later and we are still going strong.

Because the photos may not always be framers but the memories are forever. I love seeing Marissa with her goggle tan lines last summer and having shots of favorite outfits, missing teeth and new haircuts. The out takes don’t get deleted either. Sometimes those turn into my real favorites.

As a mama of two girls that are growing painfully quickly I want to capture every moment possible through the lens of my camera.

Here is a look at weeks 32-35

August 2016

Week 32

I feel fairly certain by the wet hair that we were running pretty late to church this week. Although I kind of love that you can see Marissa’s hair isn’t board straight. She definitely has some waves in there.

Week 33

It seems like pink and black was the unplanned color scheme for this week. Emily is wearing one of her favorite Minnie Mouse dresses that Marissa and I picked out for her on her 4th birthday. I am glad we bought it a little big and she can still wear it.

Week 34

Marissa looks like a bit of a hippy with her braids and floor length maxi skirt. Goodness I love that skirt. Emily’s hair was seriously on point this week too. I think I plopped it. Have you ever heard of plopping? When a straight-haired mom has a curly-haired kid you just learn SO much about how to take care of curly hair. I never had a clue it was so complicated. She does have the best curls ever though. I tell her that all the time knowing that some day, she’ll hate it.

Week 35

You would never know it by looking at this photo but it was actually pouring rain while the sun was shining. On our drive to church we saw a huge rainbow too. It was the perfect start to our Sunday.

35 weeks done, 17 left to go!

Just for fun let’s take a look back to one of my favorite photos ever that was taken in August of 2015.

So much changes in just one short year.

Today I am sharing 4 more photos for my 2016 #PicturePerfectProject #blogger #linkup Click To Tweet

Wishing //

So much I could say for this one. I feel like I am doing an awful lot of wishing lately. Let’s write down my ongoing wish: that time would slow down, even if it is just by a little bit.

Praying //

For Emily’s new glasses to bring her the improvements we so desperately want to see.

Looking Forward To //

VACATION!!! When you book a trip MONTHS before it happens and watch so many other families go on their vacations it really builds up anticipation. We are getting close now and I can hardly stand it.

Listening to //

This song. I love the mix of the new song with the old hymn.

Drinking //

My daily cup of coffee. I am a total whimp that has a low tolerance for caffeine. Lately I have been forcing myself to drink a huge glass of water when I wake up in the morning, then I reward myself with a small cup of coffee. So far it is working out really well. I don’t get the jitters and I get to enjoy my coffee with the Almond Joy creamer that I love.

Eating //

Cantaloupe and watermelon around the clock. Our melon crops were pretty impressive this year and that meant I was serving melon three meals a day. Marissa is in heaven but I am pretty sure Russ was totally over it after 3 days.

Counting //

The number of weeks until school is out, the number of days until vacation, how many things we have left to cross off our bucket list. There is A LOT of counting going on around here, especially when you factor in our math ;).

Missing //

Our days at the pool and all the time I got to spend with Anna. Sure we still text through our school days, but it’s just not the same.

Learning //

All about matter, volume, density and buoyancy. Who would have thought the girls chemistry would be so informative to me too. Because lets just be honest, anything I learned on those subjects back in my school days has LONG been forgotten.

Planning //

I have been doing a lot of blog planning lately. I am working to get things ahead so I can take a huge chunk of September off without things looking any different around here. If I manage to pull this off I’ll be “gone” for over two weeks and you won’t even notice.

Enjoying //

Our school year. I’ll admit it. I was pretty nervous how juggling two kids would work. I thought one was bound to get the short end of the stick. I have been pleasantly surprised at how easy keeping balance has been so far. And we are having a lot of fun this school year too!

Watching //

The Olympics! Who isn’t?! Volleyball, gymnastics, swimming, track. I just can’t get enough.

Wearing //

My work out clothes all the live long day. I justify this behavior by actually working out …. but still. I need to start putting on street clothes more often. Workout clothes are just so comfortable!

H.A.M.B. Drag Nationals 2016

Last weekend was the 2016 H.A.M.B Drag Nationals, an event that holds holiday status in the Newman household. It is a weekend packed full of so many of our favorite things old cars, fast cars, loud cars (sometimes all-in-one) and time together as a family and with our friends.

This years festivities were a bit different from years past, but we spent more time just hanging out than we ever have before. We met so many interesting people from all over the states.

IMG_1832 IMG_1811 IMG_1812 IMG_1816
IMG_1815 Festivities started on Thursday night. After dinner we decided to go up to the host hotel to see if anyone had made it into town yet and if people were hanging out. The weather was perfect, the sky was beautiful, and the girls had fun being their typical silly selves.

IMG_1844 Emily Fry
We went back on Friday morning just before 10:00. We didn’t plan to stay long but ended up spending the next 4 hours hanging out, keeping cool in the shade, watching the cars roll in, and talking to out-of-towners about everything and nothing.

IMG_1850 IMG_1880
IMG_1864 IMG_1889After a few hours at home we headed back. The girls came with us for a while but Russ’ parents picked them up so we could have some time to enjoy the car show without them and celebrate our anniversary. We ended up having a great time walking parking lot after parking lot, but we never made it to dinner. Finally we gave up and grabbed a quick burger at Sonic. We were having way too much fun to want to leave for a sit down meal.

IMG_1898 When we arrived to the drag strip around 10:.30 Saturday morning, it looked like this. It was cool, cloudy, and looked like it could storm any second.

We settled in and pretended like rain wasn’t going to happen. Guess what?! It didn’t! Within a couple of hours the sky was clear and the sun was shining.

I feel this photo needs an explanation. I sarcastically said “Okay kids, who wants a photo with the big ugly monster?!” I assumed they would all say no, the joke was clearly on me.

I also should mention that the husband let me drive the 37, while he drove the Honda. We decided to just take one of the old cars out there this year and he handed me the keys. I got to drive the car all by myself for about 20 minutes and it was amazing.

IMG_1995 IMG_2030 IMG_2056 IMG_2038 IMG_2064 IMG_2073
The rest of the day was burn outs, drag racing, blue skies, sunburns, my phone falling in a toilet (oh yes it did), and memories.

And then we made the quiet drive home realizing that it was all over… until next year.

Monthly Goals, August 2016

Bum, bum, bum, another one bites the dust!
Just like that, July is over!

July GoalsJuly’s goals were so close to being an epic failure. But some how during the last week I found motivation to cross a few more things off. Let’s take a look.

* Keep posting 4-5 days a week.
* Grow Pinterest to 1300 followers.
* Reformat 25 blog posts since my WordPress transition.*Take two*

I never seem to have a problem filling this space. I am at a point in my life where computer time comes easy and I feel like I have more posts to share than weekdays in a month. The other two were total failures though. To grow your Pinterest you must engage on Pinterest and I just didn’t this month. I did get 5 posts reformatted… but that still puts me 20 shy of my goal.

* Go swimming as a family
* Have a movie night with the girls
* Go on a family bike ride

Family swimming actually happened twice, in one weekend! That was a lot of fun. We had two movie nights too. So I think doing those two things twice totally cancels out not going on that bike ride?!

* Register for an event to train for this fall
* 4-5 workouts a week
* Eat a healthier breakfast 6 days a week

I was THIS <> close to not registering but finally decided to commit to an event. Not to the du-athalon though. I opted to do the Pumpkin Run for the second year in a row. It is in town, doable with just a little extra training, and affordable.

As for gym visits I came up a bit short this month and healthier breakfasts laughed in my face. I’ll try this one again. The start of the school year always helps me keep a routine which means I am a lot less likely to go grab a donut with the girls.

* Continue summer morning devotions with the girls
* Read a book of the Bible
* Attend VBS round 2 *Marissa only*

Devotions have been a lot of fun, and Marissa LOVED her second round of VBS even more than she loved her first. I didn’t read a book of the Bible but I have been reading a book I borrowed from my MIL, Changes That Heal.

goals5Home School-
* Finish lesson planning for 2016/2017
* Finish a language book we’ve been wrapping up from last year
* Get lesson plans for co-op finalized

Lesson plans for home are finished but lesson plans for co-op… not so much. The good news is co-op doesn’t start for about a month so we still have plenty of time. Language was wrapped up this weekend! Thank God! I was beginning to think that we weren’t going to finish before the new school year started.

* Work on our summer bucket list
* Mom-cation with Anna
* Go to a car show
* Try a new recipe
* Build a desk for me in the school room

The bucket list is going well. I posted update #1 already and expect to see update #2 this week. Mom-cation was so much fun, I know we tried at least one new recipe and the desk is amazing. I can’t wait to share my new work space with you soon. As for a car show we totally flopped. I think the rain and the heat left us feeling unmotivated.

Overall July went pretty well. I could have done better, but I could have done so much worse too.

#Goals motivate me to stay accountable to what I say I want to do. Setting new ones for #August on the blog today. Click To Tweet

Linking up with Morning Motivated Mom & Living In This Season for:

Currently {August 2015}

Reading//   Women of the Word by Jen Wilkin. I am only on chapter 2 and I want to go on and on about how good this book is. This book equips you to better study Gods Word, something I think most people would say they need and desire.

Wishing //  I’m still wishing that summer could last forever. I think I am in a bit of denial that our summer is pretty much over. Thank goodness we have a month of 3 day weekends before co-op starts back up in September. Maybe 4 day school weeks will help us ease back into things.

Listening to // Emily sing, all the time. I stumbled across a quote on Pinterest that said a happy child is one who sings and it made me smile.
Watching // The girls and I are huge fans of cooking competition shows. Lately we have been watching plenty of Master Chef and Food Fight. I love that they are so interested in cooking and kitchen shows already.
Looking Forward To // Christmas #sorrynotsorry. The arrival of the Christmas season is what will motivate me through this first semester of school. Don’t get me wrong I am very excited about fall and all things pumpkin, but Christmas is where my heart is.
Drinking //  Iced coffee. All. Day. Long! If you haven’t tried this recipe yet, you are missing out.

Wearing //  Bathing suits… well I was until today :(. I guess it is back to endless workout clothes for me now.

I did recently grabbed this jacket (in gray) really cheap on clearance. I kind of have a jacket obsession and fall will soon be here.

Learning // How to do chalkboard art. The huge chalkboard in the home school room was put there more for decorative purposes and less for a functioning chalkboard. I made my first attempt last week and was pleasantly surprised with how well it turned out. I had originally planned on changing it once a month but that was so much fun to do there is no way I will be able to wait a whole month before making a new creation!

Enjoying // My girls. We simply had the most amazing summer together and I just love them so very much. We had so much time to play and live an unscheduled life just enjoying summer and each other. Going back to routine is going to be a bit harder than I imagined.

Planning //  Exciting blogging activities for the fall, Christmas and the New Year too. I know all of this seems pretty far away but you just wait. It will be here before you know it!

Eating // From my garden. BLT sandwiches are so much better this time of year with fresh tomatoes, Margherita pizza is a favorite and then there is the best salad ever that I made with my home grown butternut squash.

Russ’ mom made this one day and it has been a favorite ever since. I plan to share the recipe soon because something this good just needs to be shared.

Praying // Still praying that God would guide us to a new church home. I have also been praying for our new school year. May grace and patience be abundant for both.

Missing // Is it too soon too be missing all of our pool time yet?

We spent Friday at the pool as a family. We recently realized Russ still has 95 hours of vacation time for this year so we thought it would be perfect for him to take the afternoon off.

Yup, it doesn’t get much more perfect than that.

Monthly Goals {August 2015}

July is over?!
How in the world did that happen?
It seems like just the other day we were making red white and blue jello salad and lighting off fireworks. Now the last few days of summer break are in the single digits and we are soaking up every last bit of sun that we can.
July really flew by.
That said I have no idea how I did on my goals. I have a bad habit of making them and that is it. I don’t really look again until the end of the month. Maybe a goal for this month should be to print out my goals where I can see them daily so I don’t forget about them.
Let’s take a look.

*Continue blogging 4-5 days a week.

*Grow Instagram to 700. I seem to be stuck.
*Rework a few old posts with better “pinnable” images.

I kept up the blog despite the busyness of summer. I always seem to think that if I slow down that momentum may be hard to regain so I try to keep going. Plus my Instagram grew to well over 700, finally.

Old posts, yeah I never got around to that one. I was lucky enough to write new posts and stay some what caught up on my blog reading.

*Work on crossing things off our bucket list.
*Lots of pool time (best goal ever).

*Fun run with the girls.
*Family donut or ice cream date, maybe both :).

One of my favorite parts about summer is loads of family time.

We crossed a few things off our list and I posted a bucket list update. Lots of pool time, #nailedit if there is one thing we have done well this summer it is swimming. Fun run night was a blast and we hit up Sonic for half price shakes early in the month.

*Exercise at least 5 days a week.

*Finish stage one & most of stage 2 in “The New Rules” program.

*Keep my nutrition plan on track.

*Run a solo race.

I have kept a great gym schedule, Stage one is complete and stage 2 will be finished Friday. I ran a race on the 4th of July and some how managed to place first in my age division there.

As for my nutrition I don’t feel I can cross that one off. I am not counting my calories like I was or tracking my protein intake but I also have not became to relaxed here either. I manage to stay pretty aware of what I am eating and the balance I am maintaining… or not. I have shown myself more grace and that is great. At the end of it all I don’t have time to track every single food and calorie that goes into my mouth and when I was it was taking so much time from things that should be more important, like my kids. It is all about finding a healthy balance and I am working on that. I think I can do better but still not let this become the distraction it once was. Maybe I should find a healthy balanced days worth of food and then just eat the same exact thing every single day ;).

*Read Gods word.
*Pray that God would guide our family.

*Worship more with our children. They love to dance and sing it is always so good for my heart when I join in.

I have done better this month but I also feel I am floundering more than ever. Months of not being plugged into a church is definitely becoming emotionally hard, especially for me. What we do know is that God has a plan, a good plan, for us. We are patiently waiting on Him even though it is hard and confusing.

Home School-

*Work on math and English with Marissa.
*Complete 2015/2015 school year lesson plans.
*Complete or almost complete home school room.

Summer learning is going well, lesson plans are complete and ready and the school room *sigh* it turned out amazing. Check it out for yourself if you missed it.

*Make Finish a new pallet sign.

*Date night with Russ.

*Try a new recipe or two.

*Have a girls night with a friend. (Any takers out there?)

Maybe I should just take the sign off my list. I fear it will remain blank for quite some time.

Russ and I took advantage of  our girls being at a cousin sleepover and went on a date

I tried several new recipes. Including Buffalo Chicken Quinoa, Zucchini Brownies and Grilling a pork sirloin. And have I mentioned my iced coffee that is to die for. I can’t wait to share that recipe with you THIS week.

I wrote about the importance of making time for you and had two girls nights with my two closest friends this month. One was a Starbucks night with Sarah where we were able to reconnect after a busy season. I talk to her all day through texts but it was awesome to sit in each others company. The second was a women’s worship night with Anna. We sang and prayed then went and talked about motherhood fears over some Sonic until late in the evening. Both were so good for this mama’s heart.

*Continue blogging 4-5 days a week.

*Participate in a new to me link-up
*With school starting back up I want to try and write more posts on the weekends

*Ice cream or donut date
*Wrap up our summer bucket list
*Family movie or game night
*Take both girls out on individual dates

*Exercise at least 5 days a week.

*Finish stage 2 & most of stage 3 in “The New Rules” program.

*Find a better balance in my nutrition.

*Encourage others more.

*Read Women of the Word

*Resume Bible study meetings with Sarah.

*Pray more in good times and bad

Home School-

*Finish summer off with a celebratory & fun last week

*Participate in the Back To School blog hop on August 12th

*Take back to school photos.

*Start off the school year strong and prayerfully.

*Celebrate 8 years of marriage

*Date night at the dirt track

*Attend a baseball game

*Girls night out

*Print out my goals for this month ;).

August is going to be a pretty busy month for us.

Saying goodbye to summer and hello to school books. Our favorite car show of the year happens later this month and we are joyfully celebrating wedding anniversary #8! So much to look forward too.

What is on your agenda for August?
