Last month I wrote a post about 5 things that were bringing me joy. It was a simple post idea that I had borrowed from my friend Crystal. I received so many sweet comments on the post, and people who loved the idea, that I knew I had to make these posts a part of my monthly routine. What I didn’t know was that over the course of the next month it would turn into a new monthly link-up!
Today officially kicks off the first ever 5 Things Friday. How it works is simple: pick five things that are bringing joy to your life, write a post, and link up with us on the fourth Friday of ever month.
We would love to have you find joy in the big and little things with us! You can find the link-up graphic and info about being next month’s guest co-host at the bottom of this post!
Here are my August 5!
The HAMB Drag nationals have been a family tradition for nearly the entire length of our marriage. Over the past 10 years, we’ve only missed out on the yearly event once or twice. For our family it’s almost like a holiday and it ranks up there right around Christmas.
If I was to give this years festivities one sentence to summarize them with, it would be “The Year We Almost Melted”.
Okay, maybe I’m exaggerating a little bit… but maybe I’m not. Whatever way you choose to look at it, I have never been that hot for that long, ever.
The HAMB Drags are held at MoKan Dragstrip which was built in the 1960’s and I’m fairly certain than no improvements or changes have been made since the day it opened. There are no air-conditioned buildings and shade is next to impossible to come by. But even if you do manage to find relief from the relentless sun, in the summer months, it’s still hot. We managed to tough it out for nearly 5 hours before giving up and heading home.
Were we total wimps? I’ll let you be the judge.

Typically on the third Monday of the month I share with you my recent Target finds. From Dollar spot must haves to clearance steals and everything in between. However, this month is anything but a normal. It’s the “official” Ten at Target Giveaway! So instead of the monthly co-hosts spending our $10 on ourselves, we pulled our resources together to give one of you the chance of winning $100! That’s like 10, $10 at Target trips 😆 !
10 years ago today,in a little town in AR, we said I do.
To have and to hold from this day forward,
For better, for worse,
For richer, for poorer,
In sickness and in health,
To love and to cherish,
Til death do us part.
Now here we are 1 decade, 3 houses, 2 children, COUNTLESS cars, and 1 tornado later. We’ve experienced the good, the hard, and the unexpected. I’m not going to say the past 10 years have been easy, but I will say that the highs have been oh so much higher than the lows and the good has far outweighed the bad.
In honor of our 10th anniversary I thought it would be fun to share 10 ways we make our marriage matter. 10 ways we choose us. After all, it take a whole lot of everyday moments to add up to a decade.
After three months of pure bliss, our summer break is officially over.
We officially went back to school on Monday August 7th. I know some of you can’t believe how early that is but, thanks to blogging, I’ve learned that back to school season greatly varies. As a home-school family we have the option to start whenever we’d like and this year we opted to hit the books early. Because let’s face it, building a house and moving a couple of times is going to wreak havoc on our schedule. I knew we’d need plenty of cushion built into our year if I wanted to make sure we are done before Memorial Day.
One of my favorite ways to document our day-to-day life has been by linking up for ‘The Daily Dime’ once a month. The idea is simple: pick a day, take 10 photos, share them in a post. Easy enough right?
Well, I would partially say yes and partially say no. Taking 10 photos throughout the day can be a bit of a challenge. Which honestly is just another reason I love these posts. They encourage me to capture more of life’s everyday moments and share more of the “boring” stuff that doesn’t always make it to the blog.
This months photos were taken on Sunday August 13th, 2017.
