Friday Highlights 12.8.11

Hello Friday!

What a week friends. This week I spent most of my days lying in bed feeling a bit under the weather. I got smacked in the face with a cold on Saturday morning. Yes, again. That marked cold #2 within one month and I was feeling all of the emotions. From sadness all the way to rage, I couldn’t believe that I was sick… again. The good news is that cold #2 was much shorter lived than cold #1 and I am already feeling mostly recovered. The bad news is that Emily started sniffling and running a fever around noon yesterday. *Big sigh*

This year seems to be one full of sickness, it is everywhere friends. I pray and hope your home has been a bit healthier than mine has the past few weeks.

Let’s take a look at this weeks Friday Favorites!

I received this product for free from Moms Meet (momsmeet.com), May Media Group LLC, who received it directly from the manufacturer. As a Moms Meet blogger, I agree to use this product and post my honest opinion on my blog. The opinions posted are my own.

This years school curriculum has been geography based. We’ve been studying and learning about the countries of the world. Weather, culture, climate, people groups and of course animals too.

Recently we were given the chance to try out Hey, Baby!: A Collection of Pictures, Poems, and Stories from Nature’s Nursery and I can’t possibly say enough good things about this book. The girls were swooning over the amazing photos before they even cracked open the book.

Not only has this book become a go to resource for them, it has become a daily reader too.

I love when the girls come to me with random facts like: Did you know Meerkats are great babysitters?! Hey, Baby is full of fun facts just like this and is really making learning fun for the whole family.

Purchases of National Geographic Kids books supports the exploration, research, and conservation efforts of the National Geographic Society.

AWANA Grand Prix

This past weekend Marissa competed in her second Grand Prix for her local AWANA club. Last year we set the bar pretty high with a 3rd place finish our very first year. We went into our second year unsure if we knew how to build a great car, or if we had a rare stroke of luck last year. I think Russ was more worried about how we were going to finish than Marissa was.

This years car was inspired by her love for all things Wonder Woman. I drew the lines and she did the painting. It looked so pretty and then the graphite we added made it a little less than perfect. But graphite makes cars go fast.

And fast it went! This year we managed to improve on last years 3rd place finish and we came in 2nd out of 32 cars! I was SO proud of these two.

Now all that is left is that elusive 1st place.
Good thing we still have 2 more years of trying!

Party Queso

Yesterday on my Facebook page I shared how to make our favorite new spin on queso. It is so good friends, SO good. I’m not sure if it is the sausage, the cream cheese or both. But this stuff is highly addictive and no queso will ever compare.

Make some!

1lb Jimmy Dean® Pork Roll Sausage
16 oz melting cheese
8 oz cream cheese
1 can of drained corn
1 can of drained green chiles and tomatoes.

Simply brown the sausage and drain off any grease. Add in the cheeses and stir until melted. Stir in the corn and chiles/tomatoes and heat through.

Target Tee’s

When Becky posted this photo the yesterday on her Facebook page, I couldn’t ask her to share the link fast enough. Not only are they on sale 2/$12 but they are dressy t-shirts. I need more of those in my life. I may or may not have copied her exact order too, HA! I’ve learned through the years that Becky will never steer a girl wrong in the fashion department.

Check out the shirts!!!

#2017 Christmas Moments: Week One

I was so excited to host the 2017 Christmas Moments photo challenge with Stephanie and some of my other favorite bloggers, then the first of December brought me a cold. That may have put a little damper on my excitement, but it certainly didn’t stop me. As of yesterday I was 7 for 7… however that could change at any given moment.

Hope everyone gets to feeling better at your house. I am so making that queso dip! I have made it with ground beef before but sausage sounds so much yummier!

    • I think the sausage gives it just the right amount of something extra. I’ll never use beef again! Thanks friend. Emily recovered FAST thankfully.

  • Yay Marissa (and Russ…. 😉 ). That queso dip looks so good! I’m hosting a cookie exchange next week, maybe I’ll have to make that. 🙂

    • It would be so perfect. Because you need something besides sweets at a cookie exchange. Also, I want to come!!! Oh, how I wish I could.

  • Yay guys- 2nd place is awesome. I want to bathe in that tip and boooooooo to yet another cold for you guys. Sending you warm hugs and get well vibes xo

    • Thanks for the vibes, they must have worked! Emily bounced back super fast. I am still a little “snotty” but I am almost all better too.

  • Living on Cloud Nine

You, my festive friend, are one gorgeous angel!!! Way to go Marissa, my boys used to be involved in the Pinewood Derby and it was so fun! I want to dive in to that Queso dip! Have a joyous weekend pretty mama!

    • Thank you so, so much. I need to hear that some days. I feel like a hot mess most of the time. My brother always did Pinewood Derby too. It is fun to be able to do this even though we have girls!

  • Lizzie Simantz

Ugh sorry you got sick again!! Something was going around here and it seems I’m the last one standing, for now! Love Marissa’s car, it turned out so good!! I seriously want that dip now and it’s 6:30am!

    • Hope you didn’t fall victim to “the plague” I am OVER all the sickness this year. I don’t have time for that!

  • Erin Wetherbee

Nuts I am sorry you had another cold, it’s not fun to be sick this time of year or anytime for that matter. Love that Christmas shirt and puffy vest combo! xoxo ERIN

    • So true. Thankfully I am almost completely recovered and Emily is much better too. That vest and shirt will be worn over, and over, and over again!

  • Sorry you’ve been sick! Great job on the car race win.

  • You are just the sweetest, friend! Thank you!!

  • I love those tops that Becky shared but girl, I NEED NO CLOTHING. I stocked up this Summer and unless I lose 20 more pounds, which isn’t my goal, I don’t need anything more. But gosh.. what pretty colors.

    • I am giggling over this because we both now know that you do need clothing, you need dresses!!!

  • Whitney Jordan

Sorry the sickness has camped out at your house this month! Here’s to hoping you all turn a corner this weekend! I am loving your Christmas tee and your plaid vest!! So festive and fun

    • Emily recovered REALLY fast and I am oh so thankful that she did. I was terrified hers was going to turn into something worse. Thank you so much. I will wear that combo over and over and over this month!

  • The worst thing about being sick this time of year is thinikng of all the things that need to be done!

    • Like packing my house, UGH!!! I was also thinking of all of the fun holiday stuff I was to sick to really care about too. Glad I am over that.
