Five Things Friday, October Joys

It’s the third month of ‘Five Things Friday‘ on the blog today!

Once a month, on the fourth Friday, I talk about five things that are bringing me joy. It’s a great way to count my blessings and practice a little bit of optimism in a pessimistic world. It does my heart so much good to focus on what is making me smile and getting me through my days. Because let’s be honest, some days are harder than others and finding those little joys in life can make all the difference!

Here are my October 5!

Our Land

Some days when we are out there working I get caught up in the hundreds of hours of work that need to be done. Like cleaning up the massive piles of trees pictured above.

But other times I quiet myself and take a look around. I find a hidden treasure, I listen to the sound of the wind blowing through the leaves. Lord knows how much I have missed that sound. And even though deep down I know there will be days that I am completely over it, I still feel joy.

Halloween Weekend

I know Halloween is supposed to lead up to the Thanksgiving celebrations but for me it always feels like I can officially publicly embrace my excitement for Christmas. So to say I am a little excited for the upcoming festivities, and the arrival of November, may be putting it lightly.

I have been reminiscing over past Halloweens this week. My girls have grown so much over the past year but they are still very much the same.

Baking ALL The Pumpkin Things

If you have been around here over the past month you may have noticed that Tuesdays have turned into Pumpkin Tuesdays. I have been busy, busy, busy, sharing all kinds of pumpkin treats with you and that has brought me joy in more ways than one.

#1 I LOVE pumpkin foods.
#2 I LOVE to share recipes. I really should make that more of a habit around here.

Running Half Marathons

I never imagined being at a point in my life that I would run 13.1+ miles just for “fun”, but here I am. Over the past month I’ve ran 3 training runs that were all over 13.1 miles and I have to say, I don’t hate it. Where I am feeling done with the training process, the runs themselves have been pretty enjoyable. Only 23 days until Marathon time!

Girl Mom Life

I’ve embraced girl mom life more and more as my girls have grown and I think my love for it may be at an all time high. My girls are fiercely loyal to me and I have to admit I kind of love it. These are the times to forge the bonds so that they will last through the years. I can’t imagine my life any other way.

Just the other day I was talking to Emily and I said “I think you might just love me more than anyone else does kiddo.” To which she replied “Except God! He loves you even more!” And my heart burst and broke into about one billion pieces. Little moments like those are the ones I never want to forget.

So, what’s bringing you joy?

  • Ahh Emily’s response- she’s so sweet! Love your land it’s gorgeous! Also yay for the running! You are seriously amazing!

    • She is one sweet girl. Thank you so much Keri. Most days it feels more like I am crazy.

  • Living on Cloud Nine

Oh sweet Emily…that is because you are teaching her right and to put God above all else! Your property is so pretty and peaceful and girl, you know I have adored your pumpkin recipes!!! Go have a GREAT weekend sunshine!!

    • Thank you so much. It was a good and EXHAUSTING weekend. Can’t even believe I have to run 15+ miles later tonight. We are trying to raise those girls right. Some days we see more fruit than others.

  • oh I love the girl mom thing too!! We are so blessed. And yay for the half marathons. You are awesome…. and I do wish you lived close to me so you could drop off some of those pumpkin treats 😉

    • I wish I could drop off some pumpkin treats too…. that way I don’t have to eat them all. I think they are counteracting all of the good that my running has done.

  • Three boys and a girl blog

I had always thought I would be a girl mom, but alas, boys were in my future! I love seeing all the fun things girl moms do! I love being a boy mom but definitely love seeing how girl moms do things! I so wish that I loved pumpkin, I feel so #unbasic when it comes to that. I just can’t stand the flavor!! Ugh. Have a great weekend!

    • So funny. I always thought I would have boys. I guess you just never know what God has in plan, do you?! I laughed about your unbasic comment. I think we all have something like that for sure. I used to dislike Target. I am obviously cured of that though.

  • Ugh way to make me run my mascara this morning with the little talk Emily had with you – ok no I’m not wearing make up yet but still. Enjoy this time. My daughter and I are at each other’s throats half the time but I know it’s more biology than anything else. xo

    • We certainly have our moments around here, especially with two girl!!! But we just keep chugging along. What else can you do?! Happy Monday beautiful friend.

  • I love that last picture, Beth! So cute! And I can’t WAIT to see how your house turns out!

    • Me too, baha ha ha! Can you tell I am a bit nervous/ anxious?!

  • I forgot to do this today! I love your joys though!

  • Great joys- I totally agree with the land being the biggest joy

    • I didn’t feel that way yesterday, when my whole body hurt, but I am back to joy already again.

  • Oh Emily! That was the best one yet. So so sweet.

  • Lizzie Simantz

Oh my goodness the bond between you and the girls is so special, I can feel it just reading your words! Way to go on the running, that is so awesome!!

    • Aaaawwwww!! Yes it is. that comment gave me a huge smile. Thank you! I am SO ready to be done though. Can’t believe I am running 15+ miles this evening.

  • What a sweet relationship with your daughters! Mine is 18 months old, so this is a challenging time, but I look forward to the season you’re in when we start really building our relationship!

    • It will be here all to quickly. I feel like I was right where you are the other day.

  • Whitney Jordan

What a great month! Your girls are so sweet. I love that picture of them holding hands. Congrats on your marathon training going so well. You can do it!!

    • Thanks for the encouragement Whitney. We are SO close to the end of the tunnel and I am READY!!!

  • Heather Bramlett

Your girls are precious~ I know the land is hard work but oh the JOY when it is complete!
    Loving all your pumpkin recipes!

    • Oh goodness, I sure hope it brings joy when we get it complete… and in the years and months until then too. Thank you!

  • Jessica

I love the metals that girls made you!! How sweet are those. And the photos of the girls in their costumes and with you in the mirrors…priceless.

    • Actually my friend Anna made those for me, lololol. We have never ran a half marathon without receiving a medal so we decided to make medals for our training runs over 13.1 miles. We are total goobers. Happy Monday friend.

  • Those medals are just perfect! Clearing the land seems like a TON of work, but the pay off will be oh so sweet!

    • Aren’t they so much fun. It has been a fun way to surprise each other at the end of a run. SO much work Becky. I don’t think people realize how much work we have to do out there. It is really overwhelming.

  • I love all of this so much friend!! I am so excited for you to get going more on your property, and the fact that Emily is a Minnie Tinkerbell (I think) is awesome!

    • She has cracked me up with her renditions of Minnie through the years. She plans to keep it going for MINNIE more to come. Baha ha. See what I did there.

  • I like your 5 things and love your family! Alright, holidays here we come! I am trying to muster excitement, it is just sooo much work. I am way simplifying this year though, so maybe it will all be grand 🙂

    • I think the years that we simplify are sometimes the best ones of all. I am certain it will be that way for you.
