Fourth of July, 2017

Fourth of July was a bit odd this year. First off, Russ had a 4 day weekend to celebrate. I could totally get used to that! Secondly, we did our “real” celebrating, with all of our traditional 4th of July festivities, on the 3rd. Friends, fireworks, food, and cherry pie #Merica. So when the 4th finally arrived, and it decided to rain for pretty much the entire day, it wasn’t’ the grand finale that I hoped it would be. Unfortunately you just can’t control the weather.

Today I wanted to share a few photos that I snapped through the weekend as well as some weekend highlights. Because let’s be real… you don’t want a detailed run down on all 4 days and I don’t want to take the time to write it all up either. Sigh! Doesn’t being honest feel good?  😆

So, in no particular order, here we go!

* This was a weekend for friends! We hung out with friends at the library, swim, lessons, and the annual 4th of July party that we look forward to every single year.

* I finally made the time to doodle a chalk board. It is rather unimpressive and simple, but sometimes those under 5 minute boards are my favorites.

* Russ worked on Trixie (an old car). She has been giving us problems off and on since she’s been running so we are making one last ‘hail Mary’ attempt before we cut her loose… but even if she is perfection after this tune up, she’s probably still getting the ax. We never planned to keep her forever.

* I made WAY too many yummy breakfast treats this weekend. I should probably have eggs or salad for breakfast for the entire rest of the month as punishment.

* We went out to the land for two reasons. #1 We officially have water! #2 We met the builder!!! It was super exciting to talk about logistics, finally. I’ll write-up a post with more details about all of that soon enough. The worst news is that he said end of September, early October now… that is a week or two later than we had thought.

* Saturday was the second running of Daytona for the year so we obviously watched. It has been so long since we have chilled on the couch with a race on the TV. It was the perfect way to spend the evening.

* I read an entire book this weekend, Paris for One by JoJo Moyes. I didn’t hate it, but I didn’t love it either. It was kind of boring really. But I am told it isn’t her best book so I’ll try another.

* Russ’ parents took the girls to see Despicable Me 3 on the 4th. I kind of wanted to go see it too, but a kid free afternoon won.

* A decent chunk of the weekend was spent staring at house plans. We ended up gaining 3 feet in my living area which was exactly what I needed to make all of my kitchen dreams come true. It is CRAZY how much of a difference 3′ makes when doing blue prints.

* I spent the morning of the 4th working on the budget, #Iknowhowtoparty. Actually I am almost embarrassed to admit that is how I spent my holiday morning, but it is.

* After staying up until the 4th, past midnight, we all slept in til after 9:00 on Tuesday morning. Glory, glory! The fact that it was dark and rainy made sleeping in that much sweeter.

* We watched a movie outside with friends. Over memorial day we watched Karate Kid part 1 so it only made sense to watch part 2 for The 4th.

Our weekend was lovely. It was just the right mix of fun and relaxation.
And just think, tomorrow it’s Friday again!

What was the best part of your weekend?

How much fun!! We celebrated with fireworks the 3rd and 4th! HA

    • We probably would’ve done the same except for that darn rain!

  • Lizzie Simantz

Awesome weekend friend!!! We also celebrated on the 3rd this year and it was nice to relax on the 4th 🙂

    • I really prefer to do it that way. Mostly because we stay up SO late. Nobody wants to do that and go to work the next day!

  • So fun! Is it bad that I am counting down to the weekend already?!

  • Fun! So your kids liked Karate Kid? We haven’t watched it yet. Some of the 80’s and 90’s movies just seem to kind of blow past my kiddos. We tried to watch So I Married an Axe Murderer with the 15 year old and there were large portions she was like, “What?”

    • Marissa did! Those were always favorites of mine growing up. I think I watched them each at least 30 times, lol! That is so funny friend.

  • What a jammed packed weekend!! Also, it’s amazing how much 3″ can make a difference, yet alone 3′! 😉

  • I love the last photo! I used to watch karate kid part 3 over and over as a kid. why that one? I’m not sure!

    • That is so funny. I was never big on that one, two was ALWAYS my favorite.

  • I LOVE that you guys watched a movie outside… how fun is that?! Everything was perfect, Beth!

    • It is SO much fun! As long as there is bug spray that is. The weather was perfect that night too!

  • This was the first year I didn’t take an extended break over the holiday and I sure regretted working monday! Looks like such a fun time…I have always wanted to do the movie outside thing. Oh…and read Me Before You by jojo….it’s amazing!

    • I will totally check it out!

If Russ wouldn’t have had Monday off that would have STUNK. The only reason I was okay with all the rain on the 4th was because we had already celebrated so much.

  • What a great weekend, especially since Russ was there for so much of it! Happy 4th!

  • What a fantastic week and 4th!! And a kid-free afternoon is always welcomed.

And I promise you… Jojo is fantastic. That just wasn’t the best book to start with.

    • I completely believe you and will try another soon!

  • Sounds like a great weekend! I ate wayyyyy too many treats this weekend too. And I might have had some leftovers tonight after dinner too. Oops. But at least they’re gone now? LOL.
And like you said… Whoop whoop! Tomorrow is Friday again!

    • I might have finished the brownies Russ’ mom sent home with us tonight myself ;). I also thought “well, they are gone!” Fist bump to you friend.

  • Whitney Jordan

I can’t wait until my kids are old enough for drive in movies! Love all the red, white and blue. That scone looked delicious and I’m glad you got a mix of practical and fun things done during your weekend.

    • It was a really great weekend. We needed some games that involved Cheetos to push it over the top though ;). My kids are in such a sweet time being the age they are. I wish I could freeze them.

  • So glad you guys got your celebrating in on the 3rd before the rain hit. We were in the mountains and didn’t see a darn firework. Crazy, huh? The mountains blocked our view. Although, I’m not too mad about it because…mountains! Love all of the red, white and blue. Yay for a builder. How exciting is that?? I can’t wait to hear all about the plans.

    • That is SO crazy. But the mountains ARE pretty amazing.

  • Oh so much fun all packed into one post. I am with Whitney that I can’t wait until my kids will be able to do a drive in movie!
