Friday Highlights 5.5.17

Hello Friday!

It is here, our first official day of summer vacation! After 36 weeks of school we finally wrapped up our 4th hear of homeschooling! Hip, hip, hooray! Now we get to enjoy the next 3 months away from the books… kind of. I have always been a big advocate of summer learning and I am working on some great ways to keep my girls reading and learning this summer.

Let’s take a look at this weeks Friday Highlights!

Blog Highlights!

The story of making our house, our home.

AWANA Awards 2017

Wednesday night was the 2017 Awana Awards and this year both girls had their moment on stage! We started Awana when Marissa began the 1st grade and I can hands down say it was one of the best decisions we have ever made. Our girls have learned so much about The Bible and have loved attending Awana club. I hope they continue loving it for many more years to come.

After the Awards presentation Grandma & Papa Newman took us to Braums to celebrate. I sat and watched them eat ice cream (that was sheer will power folks 🙄 ) and Emily told us jokes until I laughed so hard I cried.

I know it’s been forever since I have posted any house updates, but there honestly just isn’t much to share right now. We are pretty much just treading water until we sell our house. Which isn’t going to well really. We had one viewing the first day and then it slowed WAY down. We do have one scheduled for tomorrow though and we are praying more pop up this weekend. I am trying to convince myself that the RAIN has been a huge contributor to that and that we can make this FSBO work out. God’s timing is perfect.

However, we did go out to our land earlier this week and goodness have things changed out there. It was BEAUTIFUL and so green. I wanted to share a few photos that I snapped.

Photog Wannabe

Lately I’ve had a few chances to work on my photo skills and take some photos for people. This past week it was Senior photos for a girl from our home school co-op. I in no way, shape, or form consider my work to be professional. But it is fun to be able to help others out.

Happy Cinco De Mayo!

I’ll be honest, we usually don’t celebrate Cinco De Mayo. But when it lands on a Friday and that Friday also happens to be our very first school free day, we party. We have a little fiesta planned to celebrate tonight and my girls couldn’t possibly be more excited.

Tell me your Cinco plans in the comments!

Have a great weekend friends!
We’ll see you back here on Monday!

Friday Linkups!

  • Hey gorgeous! Love that spot and the trees. Trees are toppling here like crazy so I want to say – clear more out!!! But it is so pretty. Way to go, girls! We did AWANA before we found our church home and now we do TeamKid! Both programs are so phenomenal! You did such a fabulous job with the photog! C’mon out to NC and do our family pictures! Happy weekend sweet friend!

    • Lol! Well around the house they will be more clear but the drive way we left pretty narrow. Worst case scenario we get stuck at home, oh darn. I have never heard of TeamKid, so cool. I just love having something like that for the girls to really dig into. I totally wish I could. I would be ALL over that girl. We have talked more than once about taking a road trip to your neck of the woods.

  • yay for being done with school!! Those pictures you took turned out great!! Well done friend! 🙂 I’ve been praying for a quick sale of your house! Hoping things pick up. 🙂

    • Thank you so much friend. You are always such an encouraging source of support. I appreciate you.

  • Lizzie Simantz

Congrats on finishing the school year!! And look at all those trees!! What a gorgeous space!

    • It is breathtaking out there. I can’t wait to call it home. Thank you friend!

  • Jessica

The photo of Russ and the girls on the property cracks me up because they all look so seriously. We don’t celebrate Cinco de Mayo either. I never think about it and since Drew’s leaving for a bike race this weekend the kids and I are doing pizza tonight. Party poopers over here.

    • That is probably my fault. I told them they didn’t need to smile because it wasn’t a close up. That is what I got, lol. A pizza party is still a party girl. Hope your weekend was great.

  • To say that I’m giddy for you after reading this post is an understatement, friend! lol! Congrats to you and your girls on completing this homeschooling year!! You have so many reasons to be proud of your girlies (and yourself) for another sensational school year in the books!! I hope you ladies enjoy every lit’l bit of the summer fun ahead! You are such a talented photographer, Beth! Loving these shots and I’m sure the senior in these snaps does too! I loved seeing your sweet family out in the space where your future home will one day stand as well! Wow, so much to celebrate!! Have fun doing so at your fiesta today!! *Big hugs attached here!*

    • Thank you so much for being so sweet and encouraging me. It just means the world to have another mama who knows the work and the struggle come alongside me and say job well done.

I hope y’all had the best weekend!

  • Such cute senior pics! Great job! Happy Friday!

  • Great job on the photos! All the rain did help to make the trees super green. Congrats on finishing the school year! I would love to hear more about your summer learning plans!

    • I have one post coming up on Tuesday and another in the works for the week after! Thanks Dara!

  • Hooray for summer break!!!! I know you guys are just ecstatic! You deserve the break, that’s for sure.

And girl, I think this might be my favorite of your chalk boards yet! That hand lettering is AMAZING. Definitely some of your best work so far! Enjoy your fiesta! That sounds like so much fun!

    • We are so freaking happy and relieved. We have worked so dang hard girl.

Thank you SO much. The lettering on that one was some of my favorite work that I have ever done. I am getting ready to share a post in a couple weeks with all my chalkboards so far this year. I mean to share them a few weeks back, but #life.

  • Yay for summer break!! And those trees are spectacular!

  • Are you done with school?! Yay for Friday festivities. And you go with taking senior puctures, I think they look great.

    • We are!!! Thank you so much Whitney. I was pretty happy with how they turned out.

  • School done already? It feels like we just started. Oy. Fingers crossed that that house get sold!

    • Lol! You guys don’t start until sometime in September, right?! That makes WAY more sense to me but everything is different around here. The pools all close on the weekdays at the beginning of August because everyone goes back to school by the middle of the month. So we roll with it. I would rather be off in May when it isn’t a million degrees outside than August with no pool to go to :P.

  • Whitney Jordan

Great job finishing up another year of home school!! You’ve earned a well deserved break. Your land is gorgeous and I’m sure that things will pick up at your house when the rain finally stops. Those senior pics are wonderful! You are such a great photographer and I know your friends appreciate you doing this for them. We got Taco Bell drive through for dinner last night – fancy 🙂

    • Bahaha ha! I haven’t had any Taco Bell in FOREVER. Thank you so much Whitney I was so nervous about the photos and how they were going to turn out. Next up I am taking family photos for Anna. Cross your fingers my luck is good there too.

  • I love your photos — you may not be a pro but girl, you’ve got an eye!
And I am so eager for Connor to attend AWANA’s in the Fall.

    • Thank you so much sweet friend. Remember our text convo about photos of ourselves the other day, baha ha ha! I take those but get garbage in return. I am SO excited about that too.

  • You did a great job on the senior photos! Just one more thing we have in common friend…I am also not professional but love being asked to help a friend out and shot a seniors pictures back in February. I am so out of practice…and literally the best way to become a better photographer is taking more pictures!! I need some willing subjects. 🙂

    • Yes I feel that way all the time. I may actually ask for volunteers online if I can ever get caught up with life, lol! Oh goodness. I am taking family photos for my friend Anna soon. I am SUPER nervous about that though.
