Friday Highlights 2.17.17

Hello Friday!

What a week of celebrating. We had so much fun this week friends. Between Valentines Day, a trip out-of-town to KC, and a little girl who turns 6 in just 4 short days, we are keeping busy!

I wish I had done a better job of documenting our Valentine festivities this year. I think we celebrated more than we ever have before. But would you believe I didn’t even touch my camera the whole day? I knew the lighting would be terrible for photos and sometimes you just want to live in the moment. Especially since I can’t ever seem to find a happy medium. I either take hundreds of photos or none.

Let’s take a look at this week Friday Favorites!

Blog Highlights

This week on the blog I shared…

My loves. Introducing you to my family
How we celebrated Valentines Day 2017.
Tall Girl Problems. A silly post about my life.
14 Days of Love: A photo challenge recap

Emily Update

On Thursday we took Emily back to Kansas City for yet another ophthalmologist appointment. She was so excited that part of our trip would include going to IKEA, “The best store in the whole world”. But, she was also pretty devastated over needing to have her eyes dilated, again. However it all ended with smiles and IKEA fro-yo.

We also received another amazing report on her progress. As long as things “go alright” we won’t head back for a year! Being on the other side of the mountain we faced about 10 months ago feels SO good.

Old Navy FTW!

My love for all things striped runs deep. I have been looking at and wanting a striped swing dress for months now but I kept having two problems #1 I wanted to get one cheap, #2 none of them were long enough.

Then Old Navy came to the rescue. I found this dress in a tall for $10! I am SO excited!!! I even ordered it in 2 sizes just to make sure I get one that fits. Does anyone else ever do that? When returns are simple and painless to make, why not make sure you get exactly what you want?!

Abi Mae Update

A quick day trip to K.C. also made for a quick visit to see baby Abigail, her mama, and brothers. I can’t believe she is two weeks old today!

Thank you so much for your sweet thoughts and prayer for her and her precious family. If you could continue remembering them in your prayers we would really appreciate it. We are all hoping and praying this sweet girl gets to come home soon and trusting God that His timing is perfect.

Winter Bucket List Progress

In last Fridays little letters post I mentioned that we were FAILING at our winter bucket list. I knew I had done a terrible job at intentionally marking things off and I was so sure that we had only crossed 1, maybe 2 things off our list. This week I finally got up the nerve to look and I must admit I was shocked…

We have somehow managed to cross off 8 out of 22 items on our list! That is getting close to being halfway done. Now for the dilemma… We aren’t getting any snow this year. No, I am not a weather man. But the weather man for our area has already said too bad, it’s not going to happen this winter. So try as we may the list won’t totally get complete but maybe we will finish up most of it with a little creative thinking.

Have a great weekend friends!
We’ll see you back here on Monday!

Yay for Emily and her great progress! I’m so happy to hear that things are going so well and you hopefully don’t have to go back for a year. Wow what a difference from last year. She’s an amazing little girl! I doubt we will get any more snow this year either and I feel bittersweet about it. I say it’s okay if you don’t get all of the things on your bucket list finished. You can’t control the weather. πŸ™‚

    • We were over the moon thrilled to not have to go back…. although I will miss our IKEA trips. Maybe we’ll take a just for fun trip.

  • Amy Smith

Such great news about Emily! What a difference a year can make, hey? So happy things are going in the right direction for her.

    Praying for Abigail & family!

    • Thank you, thank you! Baby Abi is making HUGE improvements over the weekend so we are all really happy and hopeful she’ll be home soon.

  • Meghan Flinn

I love old navy for their tall dresses and often order 2 sizes for that exact reason! And yay for Emily! So glad her eyes continue to improve. But I hate being dilated too!

    • Thank you friend. We were so excited. The poor kid was miserable the whole rest of the day but she wore her daddy’s sun glasses over her glasses, lololol.

  • I lived in those Old Navy swing dresses last summer! So happy for Emily and her eye situation.

    • Thank you! I am SUPER excited to finally have one. I hope it fits.

  • Lizzie Simantz

What a great find with that Old Navy dress!! If I’m unsure, I do buy 2 sizes too and return the other, I want to make sure I still get the deal! That is great news for Emily! Not to go back for a year would be amazing. And sweet little Abigail! Praying she gets to go home soon!

    • EXACTLY! You and I could totally shop together and have the best time. We are pretty optimistic Abi is headed in the right direction. Hopefully in another week or so!

  • Abi Mae is so sweet! Praying that she gets to go home soon! Also, I hear you with the dilation… it’s not Annabelle’s favorite either, but I’m so happy it’ll be a year (hopefully) until you go back! πŸ™‚

    • We were so excited to. I expected them to say 6 months so a year was really exciting. Hopefully that sweet baby will be home come next weekend!

  • Cute dress! Glad to hear about Emily’s progress and definitely thinking about Baby Abi!

  • I’m SO glad to hear about Emily! I know you’re relieved, momma! And yay for Old Navy! I just ordered 4 things today because everything is on sale for President’s Day AND you get an extra 30% off today! Woo hoo!

    • YES! I may have ordered other things myself too :P.

  • Yay for a tall girl dress. I have the opposite problem everything comes past my knees, haha!!! So happy about Emily!!! She is doing so well. Happy weekend friend!!!

    • Yeah that would be kind of annoying too. Too much skin, not enough. I guess we just all need to be 5’7″ so everything fits perfect? Thank you!!!

  • I got you on the snow art- equal parts flour, salt and water. When it dries it looks like snow! Easy cop out, right? Love that swing dress! Ive had my eye on it too πŸ˜‰

    • PS- so grateful for the Emily update!!! Yay!!

      • Well with this 70 something sunshiney day we may not want to work on anything winter related, lol. This is CRAZY!

        Me too friend, thank you!

  • That’s so great to hear about Emily and her progress!!! Fingers crossed for things to keep going so well!
Also, any trip that ends in IKEA and their frozen yogurt is an amazing day. I mean, you know how I feel about their frozen yogurt! Ha!

    • Thank you Liz! I totally thought of you while getting an IKEA frozen yogurt. I DO know how you feel about them, lol!

  • Whitney Jordan

Yay for great news on Emily’s eyes!! That’s wonderful. I’m the same way with pictures… either I take tons or none. Sometimes it feels good to just enjoy the moment πŸ™‚ Hope you have a great weekend!

    • So glad its not just me. Valentines Day was just so gray and gloomy. It was an awful day for snapping photos around here. And yes, living in the moment feels so good. Thank you!

  • Hooray for Emily’s great report!! So happy for you guys! A trip to IKEA sounded like the perfect ending to that day! (Random side note – my youngest daughter has that same headband and it’s one of my faves on her! lol. Looks super cute on Emily too! :)) YAY for your Old Navy find! I get things in two sizes too, usually from Kohl’s with their hassle free returns too…always best to be sure you’ll get just the right one! πŸ˜‰ So glad you enjoyed time with your bestie and her precious little one this week! Those pics have JOY written all over them! Continuing to pray for Abigail and her family. Wishing you and your beautiful fam a fantastic weekend! xo – Brenda // ChattingOverChocolate.com

    • Thank you so much sweet friend. We LOVE to buy headbands from Childrens Place and have a stash of several dozen, lol Kohls is another one of my favorite places to shop too. SO easy to return things there. Thanks for the prayers she is really turning the corner and doing better. We are PRAYING she gets to come home soon!

  • Such wonderful news about Em! And so glad you were able to visit baby Abi, I know they appreciate that so much!

    • They really were so happy for a visit and yes, that good report was such a relief.

  • Heather Bramlett

    Awesome news about Emily!
I’m failing miserably at my February goals… so I understand.
    Still praying for baby Abi!
I have an ikea gift card and it’s burning a hole in my pocket.

    • Thank you for the prayers, she is really starting to turn the corner! I can’t even imagine how badly I’d want to spend one. I mean, lets buy ALL the things lol.

  • Our winter bucket list was a feeling a bit neglected… ah? πŸ˜‰ I was going to put one together for us but figured I would just stress over it so I opted out.

And EE and Abigail … one thing: GOD IS GOOD.

    • I haven’t really gave it a lot of planning, been taking more of an organic approach to it and yeah… we probably won’t get much else done. Maybe next year if winter actually feels like winter :P.

  • Score on that dress!!! I totally will buy things in two sizes and return one. And hooray for Emily’s progress!!

    • Now we just need to hope and pray it is long enough. Everything at Old Navy always seems so short!

  • I didn’t take many pictures this year, either. Oh well! We were just too busy having fun!

    • Exactly. Sometimes that is just the best way to go about things!

  • I love that Emily loves IKEA so much! That’s awesome. Praise God for a great report from the ophthalmologist!!! Yeah! So happy for sweet Emily. Praying for that sweet baby and her family. You are right, God’s timing is absolutely perfect.

    • I do too! It is so stinking adorable and let’s face it, we are going to be spending more time there in the future ;). Thank you so much in the prayers. Baby Abi is 3 weeks old today and still in the hospital :(.
