Around this time every year my thoughts turn towards pursuing an active healthy life-style. It is a season for germs, a season for over indulging and like it or not, New Years goals are just around the corner. Taking the time to refocus now is something I never regret. Today I want to share with you 5 health tips to live by.

#1 Get enough sleep

Oh how the days are long. I always feel so much better when I am well rested. I know it is hard getting to bed on time. To help I closely monitor what time I need to wake up and make it my goal to be in bed early enough to get at least 7 hours of rest. 

#2 Exercise regularly

I always feel better when I exercise. I love having a routine, knowing I am growing stronger, and it helps improve my mood too. 


#3 Drink more water

Staying hydrated is just as important in the fall & winter months as it is in the summer. It is easy to forget this and try to hydrate yourself off of coffee, never a good plan. Set goals or alarms to remind you to get your suggested intake. 

#4 Cut out stress

The effects of stress can be exhausting mentally and physically. Keep a close watch on your schedule making sure that you don’t cram too much in. A lot of stress comes from time management issues and all too often we are our own worst enemy. Say no more and cut out any unnecessary stress. 

#5 Take my vitamins

A few weeks ago at the Dr. they asked me if I was taking any vitamins. a sense of shame fell upon me as I answered them with a no. I knew something needed to change.


I always feel better when I take my daily vitamins and one of my favorite products is Emergen-C. With 1,000 mg of vitamin C, electrolytes, and 7 B vitamins. It’s the perfect way to start my day.   1. 1 Handful of ice
  2. 1 Handful of any combination of berries
  3. 1/2 Cup Orange/pineapple juice
  4. 1 package Raspberry Emergen-C
  1. Put all ingredients in a blender and pulse until well blended. Serve immediately.

I love knowing that I am doing something healthy for myself and I love that these smoothies taste so good! I might even try sneaking in a handful of greens in the future.

    Great tips! I try to do the same things, but I seriously need to be better about drinking water. I’ve been awful about it lately.

    • I know! It is so much harder when it starts to cool down… or life just gets busy. If you find any tricks, let me know!

  • Ugh, I’m so bad about taking vitamins. I was a champ at taking them when I was preggo, but once I was no longer caring for a tiny nugget via my body I stopped. I need to get back into it. And cold season is upon us, so the extra vitamin C would be nice!

    I’m all about the sleep these days! Both my kiddos are in bed and sleeping no later than 7:30, and I’m not far behind, because they wake around 5:30!
    I also just signed up for Disneyland’s Pixie Dust Challenge (10k on a Saturday morning, 1/2 mary on Sunday morning). This is JUST the boost I’ve needed to kick up my running and really focus on what’s fueling my body. I’ve never thought to add vitamins to my morning smoothies, but talk about genius!

    • Woah mama. That is tough and I remember those days oh so well. I still rejoice when my girls sleep past 7:30. I think they are just always going to be early risers :/. That is SO cool friend. So neat that you can easily do something like that without needing to travel. When are the races?! Thank you, thank you. I do try :P.

  • Yum! I love berry smoothies and this one looks good for me too! Getting enough sleep is something I am really working on, because right now I know it is not enough. One look at the bags under my eyes gives me away pretty quickly:)

    • I have learned that 7 hours is perfect for me. I can’t even believe that people survive on only 4 & 5. I would be SO mean :P.

    You inspire me in so many ways and your running/healthy lifestyle is definitely included in that! I go through spurts when I drink so much water that I feel like I am floating and then other times I am more dependent on caffeinated drinks! And I am horrible at taking vitamins. I need to get better about this! What a great way to get Emergen-C in! Love this!!

    • Girl I am the same exact way. I ALWAYS make myself drink a huge glass of water before I let myself walk out of the gym then I fill it up and sometimes I don’t touch it for hours :(. UGH. Thank you so much sweet friend.
