Friday Highlights 2016, V32

Hello Friday!

Happy, happy Friday friends! Today is my favorite Friday of the year AND the husband is off work today, #winning. Tonight kicks off the annual H.A.M.B Drag Nationals. It is how we celebrate our anniversary and a weekend we count down to all year long. They say when you love someone you learn to love their interests.I suppose that is exactly what has happened with this weekend. I’m not sure who enjoys it more now days though. Now if we could just get rid of some of the rain that is in the forecast…

Let’s take a look at this weeks highlights.

Emily’s visit to Children’s Mercy

Earlier this week we took a trip to Kansas City to see a children’s ophthalmologist. We found out a lot of information and to be honest I feel like I am still processing the things he said. To make a long story short he felt the way she was currently being treated was garbage, prescribed new glasses, told us to do nothing other than let her wear the glasses and we go back in mid November to check her progress.

We kind of feel like we had an unexpected rug pulled out from underneath us. We knew his opinion would likely vary from the first one we received, but to be told the glasses she was wearing weren’t helping anything?! That was a tough pill to swallow. Especially seeing this has been going on for almost 6 months. He also was able to explain the ways Emily has been coping with her condition for so long to us. That girl is amazing.

So please keep praying. We are hoping to see 100% improvement and no more eye crossing with the new glasses. If we don’t, we are likely looking at surgery.

LegoLand Discovery Center

I had great plans to make an IKEA stop while we were in K.C. but I decided it would be more special for the girls to do something they love, like visit the LegoLand Discovery Center. PLUS we were less than 5 minutes away from it anyways. Those girls eat, sleep, and breathe all things Lego so they had the best time!

Crown Center

We also walked around Crown Center and ate lunch at Fritz’s. I was laughing with Russ because we never really spend any time in K.C. I’ve made a few IKEA runs, we went to the speedway, and the airport, but that has been the extent of us exploring K.C. together. I guess with more appointments for Emily in the future it seems like that might be changing soon. I better work on a things to do list, including meet up with Dara

Roller Girls

The first time I took the girls roller skating they looked like arms and legs flailing around.
Oh how things have changed.

We recently bought our own skates and let’s just say their skating skills have MAJORLY improved with the extra practice. I love seeing them excited about and loving something new.

  1. Beth, my heart just aches for you guys. I’m so sorry you are feeling frustrated because of Emily dealing with this for so long and this specialist says it’s all wrong. 🙁 But just know that you are her momma and you’ve been doing everything you can and have been told to do for her. Hopefully the new glasses will help. Goodness she is a rockstar, but so are you. You and Russ are helping her to learn and be confident during this change. You’ve got this momma. Glad you explored and had some fun while in KC.

  2. Oh Beth, I’m so sorry, but yet relieved at the same time to hear about Emily’ appointment. Perhaps this course of action, will be the right path. I will continue to pray for your sweet girl & answers.

I’m so glad that you guys made a family day out of being in KC! Lego Fest is coming to WI in October. I need to look into tickets for the big boys!

  3. Oh it is so so hard to have a medical professional tell you that a previous treatment was not the right one. I don’t know exactly how you are feeling but I have that happen to me before and I get why you say you are still processing. It totally does feel like a rug has been pulled out from under you and it makes it hard to trust any medical advice you get. I will continue to pray for Emily and you.

And the Lego Discovery Center looks amazing. I would love to take my boys to something like that if it’s ever near enough. Try to relax and enjoy your fun weekend!

  4. Oh that doctors visit must have been hard. No one likes hearing that what they’ve been doing was pointless. But I’m hoping this new plan will help Emily! And legoland looks amazing! Noah loves them too and I’m always super impressed with the huge Lego creations!

  5. I hope the new glasses will help things. Maybe this doctor has the right idea! I’m glad you got to enjoy the Crown Center area, it’s one of my favorite in KC. But definitely do include me on your KC to do list, lol! 🙂

  6. Oh goodness, that was definitely an unexpected visit. BUT hopefully it sounds like things are moving in the right direction. I’m glad you were able to see this doctor and I hope hope hope these new glasses do the trick. Emily is one tough cookie and she’s been doing amazing!
I’m so happy you got to round off your trip with some fun, especially at Legoland where the girls looked like they had the best time!

    1. It totally was. I felt like my jaw hit the ground. Thank you so much Liz. Emily IS so tough and doing something fun was definitely needed after that news.

  7. Oh Beth, I hate to hear that you guys were thrown for a loop at the doctor. Hopefully this new doctor is the second opinion that you guys needed. I will continue to keep Emily in my prayers for a full recovery and NO SURGERY.

  8. Boo on the doctor visit. Such a bummer to be thrown for such a loop. I hope that these new glasses help. At least you go back in November and not 6 months from now! Many prayers friend. and have a great weekend! I can’t wait to see the recaps. Enjoy! Happy Anniversary!

  9. I’m so sorry that you guys are going through all this with Emily’s eyes! Hope this new treatment works better. Your outings look so fun!

  10. I’m sorry you had a frustrating Doctor’s appointment. I hope she’s on the right road for recovery now.
If you meet up with Dara you are sure to have fun. They always have the best adventures!
    Enjoy your weekend!

  11. Prayers going up for Emily! I hope her new glasses are the solution.
Also. ALL THE THINGS KC!!! I love, love seeing you at places we love to visit when we’re home. I’m also selfishly bummed we don’t live there so you could visit us on your trips.

  12. Thinking of you and your family! It sounds like you’ve got a whole new game plan for healing Emily’s eyes so I’ll be praying that you see drastic improvement. I hate when opinions vary so much, but It sounds like you got more answers, more explanation and are on a good path. Your adventures with the girls looked like so much fun. I remember roller skating when I was a kid and loving it.

  13. Wow that visit was jam packed. I think that what the Dr said would be tough to swallow too. Trying to process the info you just received probably will take some time. I hope though that ultimately this new treatment will bring you and your family some answers and comfort. If not, you can always visit another doctor 🙂 One or two is never enough!

  14. I can tell you God has His hands all over this. Over Emily. Over you. Trust in his faithfulness and know that He will take care of you and your girls.

  15. OH friend! We have been there too, with Mason. One ophthalmologist gave us a plan that we followed for 3 months before another (specialist) gave us a total new course of action. I will be praying for you all! God has got this!!!
