Star Spangled Kids 2016

Hello Friday!

Today’s highlights are a special 4th of July edition in preparation for this weekends holiday. I LOVE the Fourth of July. The middle of summer being marked, staying up way too late, ICE CREAM, and fireworks are a few of the things I think about when I think of this weekend. I can’t wait

I am also co-hosting a link-up that starts today!

Starting today through the 7th of July you are invited to link up photos of your little firecrackers wearing their patriotic inspired finest. You can also tag your photos #StarSpangleKids on Instagram too.

{Red, White & Blue Fashion}

It’s the week before the 4th and that means we break out every bit of red, white, and blue we can find.

4th clothes
I have been amazed at exactly how many outfits we’ve been able to put together, and these aren’t even all of them! From Walmart racks, garage sale finds, Old Navy, and a few pieces that just happen to be the right color scheme. We are feeling ready for the weekend.

{Patriotic Wreath}

If your looking for a last minute decoration, look no further.

I made this wreath a couple of summers ago and I still love it. It is inexpensive, festive and looks great inside or outside the home.

{2016 Plans}

This years plans are pretty laid back. Swimming on Friday. Saturday will be spent catching up on things or “going wherever the wind blows us” Sunday is church and a party at a friends house, and Monday will be a car show. Or everything could get cancelled because it rains all weekend. Im trying to be optimistic, but it’s hard.

Speaking of that party we hope to attend. Our friend Steve has a pretty loud “cannon device” he sets off every year so we made him this meme the other day.

Steve Cannon
A 3 year old screaming Marissa and Steve’s cannon have absolutely no relation to each other…. but it does make for a good laugh. EVERY time I look at that picture I crack up that a silly frog firework caused that. Am I a terrible mother?

{Festive Food}

One of the best parts of the 4th is the food.
Here are some of my go to favorites and a few new ones I can’t wait to try as well.

4th Food
Patriotic pancakes stack by Modern Parents Messy Kids
4th of July Jello by Six Sisters Stuff
American Flag Pretzels by Everyday Savvy
Fourth of July Layered drink by In Katrinas Kitchen

There are so many amazing ideas out there, but I am really loving these ones.

{Fourth Flashbacks}

While looking for old fourth of July photos I kept coming up short. I think that is because we pretty much failed to consistently celebrate the 4th of July with our kids until Marissa was 5 #TrueStory. After that even when we did celebrate I didn’t do the best job of taking photos. But I did find a few to share.

Emily’s first 4th
Yes that is the only “good” picture I took #fail.

I haven’t always loved the Fourth of July, but I do now.
This weekend is all about making memories and hopefully taking some great photos too. I guess we’ll see how well that goes when I try to put together a recap next week.

  1. Love the girls outfits. Little patriotic fashionistas! The photos of the girl’s first fourths are precious and I love the meme of Emily. I cracked up.

  2. Oh my word! They have the cutest red, white and blue outfits. Love them! That wreath is right up my alley. I need to make one! Sounds like a good weekend ahead of you guys. Love all of the flashback photos! I wanted to make a shirt like that (hand print flag) with Mason, but he rolled his eyes at me. Ugh! He’s not much of a crafter. But, one of the events at our camping resort this weekend is t-shirt making. I’m secretly hoping they make something like this! Happy Friday and Happy Weekend sweet friend!!

    1. I am really surprised you don’t already have some kind of wreath friend. Lol. that is awesome that he gave you the eye roll. Oh boys. Emily is now wearing the one that M had on in that photo. I meant to have M make a new one this year but we never got around too it so that might not happen this year. You have a blast too! Can’t wait to hear all about it!

    1. Hehe! My babies were never tiny and always outgrew those carriers WAY too fast. Some days I think I miss it though, others I couldn’t imagine going back.

  3. Oh precious babies! If my InLaws werent 4th fanatics I never would have truly appreciated it until Brielana’s birth, but now its just ridic how much I love it, because of Brielana’s birth 😉 That meme is HILARIOUS.

  4. Oh my goodness, I love the flashback pictures! XOXO The screaming one made me laugh!
    Have a wonderful holiday weekend, my friend! I will link up next week!

    1. They ALWAYS make me laugh. So glad that I snapped them before comforting the kids. That sounds terrible, right?! Enjoy your weekend too!

  5. Perfect!! I love that you did festive outfits all week long. That food looks delicious and I love decorating with flags this time of year. I’m hoping Olive can stay up long enough to watch fireworks this year and that the rain stays away. Happy 4th to you!

    1. I sure hope the rain stays away too. Nothing ruins Fourth of July fun like rain. Flags, that’s a great idea. I really need to up my year round holiday decorating. Christmas I can do but I fizzle out after that.

  6. What a fun link up!! I’ve been a little behind on my blog reading this week & am just now catching up. I can’t wait to read through for some fun patriotic ideas. Hope you guys have a fantastic 4th!

    1. In the summer I fight tooth and nail to not be behind. Then there is the hopeless feeling when you get behind… which I am kind of feeling now from taking the whole weekend off, lol. I hope you had an awesome 4th friend!

  7. I totally like the 4th now more that I have Noah.. Kids make every holiday more fun! And I’m loving the flashback photos. Marissa’s first dress is so pretty! And the hand painted shirts… So cute! And I love Emily’s red dress this year! Man do I wish I could dress a girl!

    1. That is SO true. Kids really do make every holiday AND season that much more special. I love it! You would be amazing at dressing a girl friend. I just wish you could dress me :P.

    1. They are so much fun to dress. I was shocked to find so many pieces that weren’t 4th of July apparel, but totally worked. Thanks for having us!

    1. Isn’t it so funny when you plan to link-up, do the post and completely forget to add yours. I have done that SO many times. Thanks for joining friend. Hope your feeling better today.
