Fashion Lately, I’ve Changed

First off I’d like to make it totally clear that I AM NOT a fashion blogger, nor am I trying to become one. I am just a girl who had an extremely boring wardrobe who has made an effort to change. Change has been slow, very slow. Like one super cheap find at a time slow, but it is happening. Today I wanted to share some photo proof that things are getting better.

Fashion Lately
I don’t have a large wardrobe packed full of trendy styles. My shoe department could use a few additions and I hardly have any accessories. I say all of this to say working with what you have can sometimes surprise a person. What if instead of focusing on what we don’t have we focused on what we do. That attitude change alone can make getting dressed so much easier and avoid flashbacks to 16 years old, clothes EVERYWHERE, crying on the bed (probably in your underwear) because “I have nothing to wear”. Some days the glass half full approach is harder than others, but I am trying.

Here are a few outfits that I have been wearing lately.

outfit 1
Shoes/ Shorts/ Shirt

This is a good example of an everyday go to look for me. I could live in tanks, short and my Chacos. The top is a great kelly green and this was my first ever pair of patterned shorts. I can’t wait to find some more.

Outifit 2
Shoes/ Shorts/ Shirt 4.88 at Wal-Mart

When Becky shared an outfit post a few weeks back I literally found myself running to Wal-Mart that same morning. I was on the lookout for a shirt I was never able to locate. But with the 4th just around the corner I decided to grab this shirt instead.

Can I just take a moment to say how awesome Becky is. I can Snapchat her photos while shopping and she is always so helpful. Plus she keeps coming up with cute outfits that challenge me to branch out even more.

Shirt/ Skirt

This is a long time favorite tank of mine that I used to wear with everything, all the time. But now I am super excited to pair it with this Lula Roe skirt…. that I won! I LOVE the color and pattern. I wore it once to Wal-Mart after church and received tons of compliments. Their maxis are UH-mazing.

outfit 5
Shirt Wal-Mart 4.88 / Pants Old navy

I owned absolutely no floral so after buying the polka dot tank above I decided that for less than $5 I NEEDED another one. So glad I picked this pattern.

outfit 6
Shirt/ Jeans

I tried this shirt on fully expecting to hate it and it quickly turned out to be one of my favorites. The fit, the style the colors. I love everything about it.

outfit 2
Shorts/ Shirt JCP no longer available online

Another shirt I didn’t think I would buy when I tried it on. The pattern is so much fun and it is light weight making it perfect for a hot summer day.

outfit 4
Shoes/ Skirt *similar

I liked the idea of wearing converse with dresses so putting this look together with a simple skirt and a graphic-tee was one of the first things I wanted to do when I got my chucks.

I said I would change and I think I have.
Bye-bye boring wardrobe. Hello color, pattern, and fun!

  • Amy Smith

Look at you, Mama! I’m loving all of your outfits lately. Your closet is definitely brightening right back up!

    • Thank you! It is just so very exciting! I love that it has became easier. I no longer gravitate to boring when shopping.

  • First off, this post just gives me the grins! You have added some perfect pieces to your wardrobe! Those Walmart tanks are just winners and you can totally wear them this fall/winter with a cardigan to keep the pattern love going. I love getting your snaps, friend! 🙂

    • And your flat lays are fabulous!

      • Thank you, thank you! There was NO WAY I was going to make this post that much more awkward and actually wear the clothes :P.

  • I love all your mixing, matching and colours. Well done girl!!

  • Lizzie Simantz

Love all of your outfits! I already have a Walmart trip planned this morning, hoping to score some of those tanks!

    • Do it! They are tank perfection and are washing up great for me!

  • Jessica

Girl, you are stylin! I love every outfit. 🙂

  • Really cute outfits! I can’t believe some of it was from Walmart.Whoa!!!

    • I know, right?! There is a # on IG called #woahwaitwalmart and you can see all kind of cute things people are finding there.

  • These outfits are sooo far from boring! I love the splash of color every day. 🙂 I especially love the green tank outfit and Lula Roe outfits. I would wear many of these outfits.

    • Thanks Emily! I really feel like I have made some pretty big steps forward this year.

  • These outfits are all so cute. I am feeling the need lately to majorly go through my closet and simplify things. I would love to look in my closet and see only things I love. Have a terrific Tuesday!

    • I did that back after Christmas and purged 100+ items from my closet. I still have plans to do it again soon. There are some things in there that I STILL have yet to wear and they just need to go. You should go for it, it feels AMAZING.

    • Oh Tanya….I so wish I lived even closer because I would die to have a chance to organize a closet. 🙂

  • Beth, I love all of these outfits! You and I have a very similar style. I also love that you stepped out of your comfort zone a little with this post. You did great!

    • Thank you so much friend. I am SO glad that I did. Maybe I will step out and venture into this area more often. It seems to have went over well!

  • Great job making outfits that are not expensive!! I haven’t tried any tops from walmart…hmm, maybe I should!

    • You totally should. These were super cute and have washed up great. I need to go back there to browse around some more soon.

  • Love all this, and what I really like the most is that it is so very you- for someone who isn’t a fashion blogger, I would say you definitely have nailed your personal style.

    • That is the sweetest thing ever because I totally feel like I am still floundering to figure that out :P. This post was so much fun. I’ll have to take another stab at it again another time.

  • You may not want to be a fashion blogger…but friend you have nailed the flatlay!! I suck at that. These outfits are all adorable and look like outfits you would be totally comfortable wearing which is the most important!

    • Baha ha all of you outfit post ladies keeps saying that. Do you stand on a chair when you take them. I am pretty sure that is a must. Thank you so much Shelly.

  • I’m right there with you. My wardrobe has been far from trendy (my shoes are actually the worst – I go for comfort, not looks!). I’ve been trying harder over the past year though and I think I’m a little bit more fashionable than I once was, haha (or so I hope!). I love all of these outfits, but I especially love that first one with the green shirt and black and white shorts. I’ve been wanting to try patterned shorts or pants but haven’t ventured there yet!

    • I am with you on comfort hence the chacos and converse. Those patterned shorts MIGHT be my favorite purchase of the entire summer. I seriously wished I had grabbed another pair.

  • Girl, I am LOVING your style! All of those bright bold colors are perfect for summer! I would wear every single one of these outfits!

    • Thank you so much! That compliment is huge!

  • Knocked it out of the park girl! Love EVERYTHING you picked out, you are one stylin’ mama! Great job. Oh and your flat lay, spot on.

    • YAY!!!! So glad you approve, thank you so much friend.

  • Um those outfits are Ah-mazing!! I really need to up my game. Right now it can be difficult since I need to find tops that make it easy to nurse, but as soon as Autumn takes her last drink…. I’ll be trying. Keep the ideas coming! 🙂

    • Aaawwww!!! Thank you so much Danielle. I remember those days like they were yesterday. Well that and actually having a chest *HA! I was all like “How do I cover this thing up :P!”

  • Cute post! If you saw my wardrobe, I am a stripes gal. Didn’t realize it until I put on another dress with stripes. So I get that we have to switch things up a bit. My summer outfit – grub shorts and a tank top around the house. Or like today, pjs all day long. The heat is unbearable so who wants to go out.

    • That is exactly how it has been here too. Unless we are playing at the pool, we just stay home. It is WAY too hot to just go outside.

  • Desiree @ Macke Monologues

I absolutely love them all! The bold colors and patterns are perfect and fun!
I’ve snapped Becky a few times for outfit advice, too! That woman is a wealth of clothing knowledge!

    • YES she is and she loves to help which makes her even more precious. Thank you friend.

  • Love your patterned tops! I feel like Im watching you bloom, friend! I absolutely always start in my own closet and only add items I LOVE. No need to go broke or buy things full price. Becky’s flatlays are my favorites!!

    • Thank you, thank you! It all started when I purged 100+ things out of my closet last January. It was then that I was able to see how ridiculously boring my stuff was and what I actually needed. I haven’t looked back since!

  • Girl, you are KILLING IT! I love your new stuff! I was just thinking this morning, as I was staring in my closet with nothing to wear, that I need to get myself some new things. I am the queen of buying Mason things but I never buy anything for myself. I need to branch out and try new things. And apparently try Walmart because those shirts are so cute!

    • Lol! I just noticed Walmart had some CRAZY cute flats too that were 4.88 think red, leopard and this striped pattern. They probably wouldn’t last forever but no more than you’d wear them and for that price you’d get your money and a couple years out of them! So yes, take a look at Walmart. They are upping their game.

Thank you too. I used to be SO guilty of doing the exact same thing. I would spend my birthday money on the kids. No more, no more. I eventually realized they had MORE than enough.

  • Meghan Flinn

Thanks for the fashion shout out!!! And you’d never know you had a “boring” wardrobe once upon a time… These outfits are amazing! I love all the color, patterns, and outfit combos! You could totally be a fashion blogger 😉

    • You bet! Thank you so much Meghan. I feel like I have came full circle ever since I purged my closet of over 100 items in January. As great of a response as I received from this post. I definitely may play with the idea of throwing one in every blue moon.

  • A girl always needs a great pair of Converse shoes! Cute! I like your color changes, you are my hero 🙂

    • If I can change, anyone can change! Thank you!

  • So cute! I love all your fun colors and patterns!

Whitney @ Come Home For Comfort

    • Thanks Whitney! I have had so much fun embracing things that aren’t gray :P.

  • chall1018

I am right there with you! I don’t have trendy clothes, my accessories are slowly dwindling and my shoes consist of only comfortable pairs. Love all of these outfits you have paired and the bold colors. I have that red and white polka dotted shirt. I’m amazed at how many things you can pair it with. And cute tanks for less than $5 bucks? Yes, please! Becky is awesome and I love everything she puts together.

    • Becky is the BEST! I am just glad I made an effort to change. I know I’ll never be super trendy but even just these small changes and opting for pattern has been so good for me. I picked up ANOTHER one of those tanks yesterday. I can hardly wait to wear it.

  • You are so much more of a fashionista than you think!! Each outfit shows thought and style. Way to work it, Beth!

    • Lol! Oh friend you are too kind. Thank you so much.

  • Loved these! You have great style and you inspired me in a way that actually feels attainable. You may not think you’re a fashion blogger, but keep up the tips! Love it!

    • Thank you SO much Rebecca. The support I received on that post was so encouraging. Hope you are having a great Wednesday!
