Take Me Out To The Ball Game

First off I want to say a huge thank you to the men and women who sacrifice so much to defend our country.
Happy Memorial Day!

Last year Joplin welcomed a minor league baseball team, The Joplin Blasters. Joplin had been without a home team for YEARS. We were so excited to be there on the opening day of the inaugural season. So this year when the opportunity presented itself to go again, just hours before the game, we jumped at the chance.

Unfortunately the weather wasn’t so cooperative. We showed up and during the very first inning it began to sprinkle which switched over to rain just a few innings later… so we left.

That was disappointing.

But lucky for us Russ had more tickets for Saturday and this time we got to sit in our beloved box. Plus the weather could not have been any better AND our home team won. I say that definitely made up for opening night not going so well.

I snapped plenty of photos and Russ once again refused to cooperate with a selfie. He is pretty sweet though.

Baseball Cow Baseball Blue
We hung out with a few different mascots. Saturday was Mascot Mania and there were plenty of odd and oh so familiar favorites to take photos with. We stuck with what was familiar, Blue and the Chick Fil-A cow, of course!

Baseball Towel Wave
We cheered our boys on. Marissa just LOVES waving her towel around like a maniac. She may or may not have whacked me with it more than once.

Russ kicked back to relax, even if it was just for a bit.

The girls and I walked around and enjoyed the ballpark.
We had such a great time.

I love having a hometown baseball team to cheer for.
It may still be spring but it definitely feels like we are well on our way to making some 2016 summer memories already. The girls are already asking to go back and I have a feeling we’ll definitely be back soon.

Have you made it to a baseball game this year?

  • We have a minor league team nearby too and sometimes I enjoy it more than major league games! And how lucky are you guys to sit in a box!
    Xo, Evelina @ Fortunate House</a

    • That is so fun to hear. I have never been to an MLB game but I would LOVE to see the Cardinals play some day. The box is the best. Definitely better than in the stands.

  • That’s so great that you got to go back when there was better weather! Des Moines has the Iowa Cubs and we love to go a couple times a season!

    • So much fun right? Something about baseball just make summer feel like summer.

  • Meghan Flinn

So fun! And how fortunate you could go back the next night with better weather! We have a minor league team (though not a good one) and we definitely want to take Noah again this year!

    • Haha I don’t know how good ours is either, but it is still fun. I bet Noah has a blast this year.

  • Jealous that you have a minor league team! I would be there everyday. Totally a summer activity.

    • It is the best. Even better that Russ’ work is a big sponsor sot the tickets are free!!!

  • Whitney Jordan

I love going to those minor league games! We went frequently when we lived in Salt Lake. The highlight of the game was always a sundae in a baseball helmet for me ๐Ÿ™‚ I lol’d when you said Marissa was a super fan waving her towel. My sister used to do crazy stuff like that with pom poms and we’d all be telling her to tone it down ๐Ÿ™‚

    • Bahaha! Yes she was a little wound up. That Sunday in a baseball helmet is a genius idea. I could go for that for sure.

  • Looks like a good time! We plan to go to a few more Royals games asap!

    • I wish we could go to an MLB game easily…but I prefer red over blue :D. Someday we’ll make it to a game. It’s so fun that you are so close to your team.

  • I love a good baseball experience! As much as I love MLB games, there is something so special and laid back about a minor league game. Plus, who knows, you may have seen a future super star play!

    • YES! I know one or two players from last years team moved on to MLB this year so that is definitely something to be excited about.

  • Baseball games are the only live sporting events I can handle, something about stadium food… ๐Ÿ˜‰ Kidding (a little) That picture of Marissa waving her towel is amazing.

    • Thank you! The stadium food there is pretty unimpressive to say the least. Too bad :(.

  • How fun you guys got to go to the home opening game! Bummer about the weather but I’d say it more than made up for it that you got to go back again later that week. Two baseball games in one week? Those are lucky girls! Mason would be in heaven ๐Ÿ™‚

    • Definitely and did I mention we got the tickets for free?! Russ’ work is a big sponsor and co-owns a box so he can frequently get free tickets. We’ll definitely be back!

  • Jessica

Aww!!! I want to take the kids to a baseball game this summer. Hometown teams are so fun to watch. Bummer about the weather,b ut I’d say you guys had a great tie.

    • It really worked out perfectly… especially since we got the tickets for free! I hope you can make it to a game too!

Amen to the first line of your blog post. Amen. How exciting that you guys have a minor league team. I sometimes think they are just as much fun (if not more) than major league games. Theyโ€™re so much more family oriented and I love that about them. Bummer that the rain chased you guys away. Thatโ€™s the only bad thing about Spring โ€“ weather & rain are so unpredictable. You managed to get some really great photos before you left so I call that a total WIN!

    • Thanks friend. I have never been to an MLB game, but I REALLY want to see the Cardinals play some day. I do love how family oriented the games are. It is always such a good time.

  • How fun! It looks like you had a good time and I love the pictures you took! We haven’t gone to a game yet, but we do go to at least one Pirates game every summer!

    • Aaahhh to be close to an MLB team! Someday I am going to see the Cardinals play!

  • So funny you mention this, Mr. and Baby Fox got last minute tickets to an Angels game and had THE BEST time…Baby Fox wasn’t totally into it the whole time too, so stinkin’ cute.

    • Oh my goodness that is SO much fun. I really want to see and MLB team play sometime soon.

  • We live really close to the Dayton Dragons. I hope to take C this year; he loved it last year.

    • You totally should! It is such a fun activity in the summer.
