Kansas Speedway, My Very First Race

Hi, my name is Beth and I love NASCAR!

If you’ve been reading along for any length of time you probably already know that, that is a true statement. One that I have no shame in admitting. I don’t expect you to understand, really I don’t. But hold it with the left turn only / redneck jokes and it’s not a real sport comments, m’kay.

I remember the very first NASCAR race I ever really watched, the Daytona 500 in 2007. Russ and I would have been dating and trying to be a “good girlfriend”, I went along to watch the race. Little did I know I would leave forever a NASCAR fan. With just one race I was hooked.

Fast forward 9+ years later and we finally went to our very first Sprint cup race!

I “surprised” Russ with tickets as an early Fathers Day present. It was pure coincidence that the race fell on Mothers Day weekend. We went with our friends Anna and Phil making the almost 3 hour trip to the Kansas Speedway an epic time. But I’ll let the photos do the rest of the talking for me.

And just in case you want a small glimpse of the awesomeness!

That was by far one of the coolest things we have ever done and already has me thinking one thing.
Why wouldn’t we go back in October?!

  1. Yay! I’m so glad you had a great time. I was thinking of you as my FIL and I watched it on Saturday night. I say you guys come to Charlotte in October. 🙂

    1. Oh my goodness that would be so much fun. I think Russ is ready to look for a job, pack up and move to Charlotte. So visiting might be a dangerous idea.

  2. My dad used to always watch car racing type thingies and we would go to the odd event with him. In fact, my favourite VCR to watch as a kid was Car Wars. Loved seeing pictures of a huge event!

  3. I have to admit I am not into car racing at all, but I do think the Speedway is a neat looking place and we have spied on some of the races from nearby parking garages!

  4. Love this post! I am a life-long NASCAR girl and I agree, there’s nothing like being at the track to take in a cup race in person. Love the video – that’s such a great sound! 🙂 Living in the Southeast, I’ve been to several of the tracks over here but never to any of the ones on that side of the Mississippi. What a fun way to spend Mother’s Day!

    1. Oh my goodness I just want to hug you. It is so rare to meet another girl who loves NASCAR. Jess a blogger (who commented down below) is married to a guy who works for team Penske. How cool is that?! If you ever make it to Kansas, leme know!

      1. I know! There aren’t many girls who enjoy NASCAR the way I do. 🙂 I live within a few hours of Charlotte, Atlanta and Bristol (my favorite). My parents live really close to Bristol and often have access to tickets at a great price…if you ever want to experience “the last great coliseum,” let me know! 🙂

        1. It is certainly true. I feel so luck to have Anna who also loves the races. I am pretty sure Russ would move to Charlotte in a second if only he could land a job working on a race team :D! I will totally let you know if it looks like we can ever get that way.

  5. I grew up on NASCAR. My parents went to many a race and I was always wishing they would take me but it was a grown-up only trip season after season. I love how much you and Russ have in common when it comes to your love of cars.

    1. There are way worse things to grow up on than NASCAR. Bummer you never got to go, but having just went, I can kind of see why. I’m not so sure I’d wanna take my girls either. Me too friend. We’re a perfect match.

  6. Oh my gosh! So fun! There are some races in Phoenix that the hubs has been begging to attend, but the timing is never quite right. I think he might just head up there without me soon 🙂

  7. How funny you bought the tickets for him for Father’s Day and the race was on Mother’s Day weekend. At least you like it too! 😉 Looks like you guys had a great time!

  8. What a cool thing to do as a couple! I’m not into nascar but I can imagine if you are that this would be AMAZING! We have a friend who’s obsessed and will sit in the corner during BBQs ignoring everything going on around him watching the race!

  9. GAH!! The Kansas NASCAR races are on our bucket list! My in-laws literally live less than 5 minutes away from the track, and I’m ashamed none of us has ever been. How is that even possible?!
It looks like you all had the absolute BEST time!!! I say do it all over again in October!!

    1. Well it seems like you need to plan a visit around a NASCAR race and then I can finally meet you, because I am now officially a junkie. It was so cool friend. Just standing there as the cars zoom by you can feel the speed. Okay, I sound weird but hopefully not too much.

  10. I grew up around Nascar because my dad is a huge fan! I remember going to the speedway and coming home with bags full of Jolly Ranchers {sponsored car handed them out in bucketful’s}!! Looks like you all had a really great time! And the pictures are fabulous!!

    1. Haha! That is an awesome memory for sure. Candy and cars, what is not to love! We had such a fun time. We really do want to go back in October too.
